The plaintiff rented an apartment from the defendant. However, the building was infested with bed bugs, and her stuff was ruined, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims this whole case is a hoax so the plaintiff can get out of her lease early.

My favorite exchange featuring Doug in a People's Court parody from the 90s. Note that they used the actual set and the real judge, bailiff and Doug: "Mr. Brown, if I can ask you a quick question, obviously Commisar Wapner didn't believe a thing you had to say. How'd that make you feel???" "How do you think i feel fool??? I am NEVER watching this show again!!! Small claims my blank!!!"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

For the manager to admit that he did say that they were willing to forgive the sliding door in exchange for the AC unit but then went ahead and charged it, that seemed sketchy. He's a bad manager. The owner's devious statement to Doug on the way out makes me think he lied about bed bugs in the apartment complex. Regarding the manager's deal with the girls to exchange the A/C unit they bought for the door repair Brittany caused: "I don't think he(the manager) should have made that deal and maybe they would have even forgot about it." The owner said out loud that he wished he could have kept the A/C the girls bought and collect for the door repair out of their deposit. Slimy.

This case annoyed me. I was 17yrs old and had just bought a new bedroom set. A couple of weeks later, I had what looked like a rash on my arms. I visited the doctor twice and was prescribed creams for the itching, but they couldn't figure out what it was. By about the third month, one night I saw one tiny little bug crawling up the headboard and when I killed it I saw blood. I freaked out and pulled up my mattress, but I didn't see much until I pulled my headboard forward. There were hundreds, along with eggs🤮For someone who's never dealt with bedbugs before, it's easy to not figure out the problem right away. So JM comments about not believing she could have lived with the problem for months without realizing it was bedbugs is just silly. Getting rid of bedbugs is extremely difficult, and it's hard to believe the plaintiff's roommate didn't encounter a problem.
@thenatural5268
@thenatural5268 16 дней назад
That’s the proof that the roommate didn’t have the problem. The roommate didn’t get the exterminator in nor mention it to the landlord when he asked her. She would’ve looked and would have mentioned something like that so the issue if it did exist was extremely contained. Also, honestly that isn’t even applicable because you have to prove unlivable circumstances to win this type of case. She fixed the issue and also thought it was as such that she found new roommates and told them it was fixed. How can it be unlivable for you but you deem it livable for others?

Bed bugs can hide anywhere. Not only in the mattress. Headboards, even between the wallpaper. Anything stored under the bed, shoes, bags…If the problem grows, you can find them anywhere in your home, sofas etc… Some people can have reaction to the bites immediately, some people don’t react at all, some people can have more severe allergic reactions. Eggs that are not terminated properly and also live bugs can survive a very long time, if the apartment for example, hasn’t been used for a while. Bedbugs can sense CO2 that we breathe out, and that’s how they usually crawl out in the night… They are not easy to get rid of.

Not when there's a move out & try put appropriate notice that they're leaving. Sometimes it takes a couple extra days to get everything out of to clean after a walk through. Then, the landlord can only charge those couple of days. They weren't 'living' there, they'd moved. It's different, if a tenant stays a week, doesn't like it, & leaves. Then, the entire month can be charged.

A friend moved into a group living home that was bed bug infested. He didn't tell me, instead he asked if he could bring a few of his items for me to store. His boxes harbored bedbugs and so soon my area had bedbugs. The only solution is to totally get rid of all furniture, in the trash. Wash and dry(in a very hot dryer) all washables. Boxes, furniture, anything and everything can harbor bedbugs. People even leave them in movie theaters and on luggage. Be careful everyone.

As someone who has dealt with bedbugs. I can tell you that once you get them it takes YEARS to actually get rid of them. This is because by the time you notice them. They are already in the THOUSANDS! So, yeah. They could have already have been in the apartment by the time she rented it. However. If you get furniture from thrift shops or for free there is and EXTREMELY HIGH risk of getting them (that is how I got them!). They are not the kind of bug that you get from being dirty, contrary to what people believe. They are more like tics. You can be the cleanest person, yet still get them! Regardless, the landlord SHOULD be doing regular treatments of their properties for ANY PEST. However, there is no real way to say where they came from. Some species of bedbugs can actually lay dormant for 2 years and the eggs can go for 4 or more years before hatching!!!

Bed bugs are really hard to find unless you’re infested. They hide around the piping at first. If you’ve never had them you wouldn’t think bed bugs until it was apparent.

I was forty two when I bought a used sofa. About a week later I saw a bug and killed it and it had red blood. I had to look it up on the Internet because I thought they were a myth. I learned that Summer how to get rid of every piece of fabric and the benefits of diatomaceous earth. Worse than roaches, by far! Best to you-

It's shocking to me that folks are made to sign a hold harmless clause when signing a lease. Owners KNOW that multi-unit building have bedbugs waiting for tenants.

yeah me and my mom were strict on things like this, if we to even find one bedbug, we were like "fuck this, we're outta here" and we had to get rid of furniture, clothes, or anything that the bedbugs made their cozy home in, to me, the landlords (as well as tenants) need to be mindful of how they take care of their apartment and complex, so that there are no problems like this ever.

Will bed bugs crawl on you during the day? Bed bugs are generally considered to be nocturnal and prefer to forage for a host and take a blood meal during the night. They also will come out in the daytime or at night when lights are on, in order to take a blood meal, especially if there were no human hosts in the structure for a while and they are hungry.

The plaintiff doesn't strike me as someone who would lie. I 100% knew JM would rule the way she did but I hate it for the plaintiff.

Bed bugs can actually cause PTSD or something very similar, so the judge may need to be a little more informed on that issue.
