Several months back, I commented on an SD video that involved humping it home. It's a little less than a 40 mile hump from my job in the city to our rural home. I stated that I expected it to likely take 5 days or more to make the hump. I got quickly hit with something along the lines of you must be out of shape or just lazy because 40 miles should only take 2 days. While this may be true in a perfect world, in a perfect world I wouldn't have to make that hump. If I'm on foot trying to get home, I'm trying to stay out of sight. That means walking through trees without trails and traveling in the dark.

Exactly. You are not traveling in a straight line. You are hunkering down while passers-by move out of sight before you cross a street or a open area. You are following wooded areas or forested bike paths.

I would submit that you could speed up the journey by taking roads & trails after sunset using proper NVG or cheap digital NODS to easily avoid people.

@@rodgreene2687, while this is true, NVGs are not likely since I wear glasses. I'm sure there are work-arounds for that but I would think this would take the price up a bit. I think NODS could certainly be an option. I don't know much about either. The city in which I work will be fairly easy to evacuate from via foot because of its layout and the fact that it's not what I refer to as inner city. It's highly business and service oriented. That said, there are a lot of homes, possibly hundreds, with mostly unprepared people in the first 12 miles that will have to be avoided. I do have a couple of maps with overlapping alternative routes that I would be taking. There are no known trails but I do have a long stretch of rails that I have as part f the plan, approximately 14 miles. Walking 14 miles down the rail rocks will be rough on feet and knees. After this, I would run into more house (about 11 miles) with armed and typically friendly, country folks but in an SHTF no one can be assumed as friendly. In one section near the end of the planned exit, I have about 3 miles of secluded power lines to travel. While this may seem like a great idea, power lines around here have a few hazards. They have hunting blinds along them. They are covered in briars. Rattlesnakes may be an issue dependent upon outdoor temperatures. Trust me, man, I've tried to think through this as thoroughly as I could, giving me the most and best options possible.

@@erickaesman4001, no bike paths or hiking trails here, only the possibility of game trails. For the most part, inside the tree lines doesn't look to badly for me. This is something I've been working out in my head for a few years now.

My first priority is to stay put, stay “low profile”, avoid unnecessary attention to myself, and as a VERY last resort I have plans to bugout… I believe everyone has this same line of thought?

I have been semi organized for things like this since the 1970's. Example: 1. Visible food on shelves. Unseen we have multiple totes with different types of long term mostly freeze dried foods and bottled water. Not sure were or when my water filters vanished but I will replace them. 2. I have a heavy backpack in the vehicle set up the same way. 3. Survival kits & First Aid Kits = need to be updated. 4. Fire starters multiple types. Love Bic Lighters. Sounds like we are set up to run away. 5. I consider the wagon wheel broken in such an event with little or no intention of going anywhere unless it is smarter to leave. Either way if possible we will go stealth.

I’ve been driving cross country for decades and all of my experience has led me to two conclusions… 1. You will run out of fuel first. 2. You will not be able to carry everything that you packed into your vehicle. Prioritize extra fuel over any else and if possible only pack what you and your passengers can carry. Anything beyond what you can carry should be barter items. Something else to consider - bicycles 🚲 existed before cars and they will likely exist after them as well 👍 Finally, have a water plan, literally RU-vid is full of videos on how to procure safe drinking water and Walmart has filters for under $50 it’s impossible to carry enough water to walk for a few days let alone a week. Water💧= Life 👍 Sawer is my favorite survival water filter do to robustness and longevity each member has one in their pack they will filter a life time of water 💧 Downside learning curve for proper use Grail is my favorite for filtration and purification + it’s relatively idiot proof Downside more expensive per gallon and requires replacement filters.

I live in Southern California orange county area. Unless you have a three hour heads up from a friend Highup in the military or government, it is impossible to get out of Southern California. Think holiday traffic. A normal drive to Las Vegas can be four hours and 15 minutes. I’m a busy holiday weekend that can turn into seven hours. In an SHTF event, traffic will come to a standstill, and most will run out of gas. Your only smart choice will be to bug him. Your only smart choice will be to bug in.

Being ready at all points, regardless of events. Having the knowledge is main thing for me, ruck and carry stuff ready to go, vehicle with more equip ready to go. Maybe it might happen as quick as Red Dawn, 1984 version, that could very well happen at night. Ut might not even be a invasion, they might just take over the finacial structure and information systems, from were their at not even set foot on the solid. Thing is too I look after my 85 yr old dad, am I supposed to abanned him, leave him to wolves. Tough questions

the roads will be full of stalled cars and ambushes. You're not going anywhere by road. You can't stay (more than a month or so) in any vehicle or structure. all of them will be searched for resources, again and again. If you try, you'll get sniped or burned-out at night. There's no point in bugging out to any place where you have not scatter-buried at LEAST a 6 months supply of food. You can walk beside a mountain bicycle, with 100 lbs of supplies lashed to it, over some pretty bad terrain, with 30 lbs of pack on your back and your riflle in an Amazon spring clamp across your handlebars. If the terrain is not too bad, you can tow another 50 lbs of rations, etc, in a trailer behind the bike. Coconut oil is 4000 calories per lb. Nut butters offer 2500 calories per lb. You'll need 3000 calories per day to hole up in your tunnel (and lose no body-weight). When you have lots of fat with which to mix it, you can utilize diced, boiled, then fried cambium to extend your rations. So you can be hauling 4 months worth of food, get another month's worth from cambium and another month's worth on your body fat, maybe even 2 months. So, if your pre-buried food is gone or you can't get to it, all is not lost. In 6 months, 90% of the population will be dead. That might be enough to let you get away with having hidden plots of sprouts. Sprouts might feed you while you wait on your root veggies to ripen. If you can snare, or silently shoot, some fat dogs early on, maybe net some fish (have some salt, buckets snares, dog proof steel traps sardines and netting pre-buried) Coons can steal the baits from your bucket snares (set for dogs) and you dont want a dog howling and yelping with its foot caught, either.

For me; the only way would be to be on the road at least one hour before everyone else. All routes go north, so the further N of my latitude the epicenter lies, the more lead time I'd need. The ideal situation for me is to be living somewhere else when that happens. I have not been able to make this happen yet.

Thats one reason i will never live in a urban area again. Even in a semi rural area, you might have to go to a hide postion for awhile before re occupy your place or you might have to rebuild what you need to live.

Having a place where it is difficult or impossible to reach by road will help maintain its security. Which means piloting or seamanship skills will be helpful areas to learn about. This could also lead to possible answers in terms of where to go now, or when such a massive crisis unfolds. Alternate places to go to during emergencies would be places that people would avoid for various reasons like: it would be too dangerous, too hot, too cold, too nasty, or too difficult to survive there. Meanwhile improve daily your preps, skills, health and neighborhood’s readiness.

I think most people dont think about how hard it is to travel period during or after a weather event. think about how a whole city gets slowed down,shut down when theres a visit from the president. how much worse would s.h.t.f. event. the state and fed.gov are going to be moving around too. And their armed and can act without fear of consequences.

Ofcourse my situation is a high risk one, because my location, and wanting the first hitting the road comfortly ( Ofcourse my 3 bugout bags are in my car and not intended for on foot, heading rural Spain Leaving Brunssum ( JFC Brunssum AFCENT NATO headquarter+ Awacs airbase Geilenkirchen+ very old nuclear Powerplant in Liège all closer than 20 miles! I take the risk to lose everything Except my clothes! So long i do my best , can watch myself in the mirror with dignity and proudly meat my ancestors & the Lord, hopefully over 40 years! Its OK So long i worry , complainingvand suffer i aint dead!

I truly feel so badly for the huge majority. I know that most can't or won't or have not realized shyt is going to hit the fan soon. They should be definitely forming groups mags etc... I have been so fortunate to have built a strong group over decades ... We now have three different well setup three different geographic areas (farms or retreats). The moves we are hoping will be before the public is aware.. Each retreat has a family living there now and it is prepared.. The plan is for all to stay bugged in but with options to move if their area is hit or falling.. we Radio (ham) we are armed .. well stocked ... and we know we will have it tough .. imagine not being connected

I just had a conversation like this with a member of a preparedness page that I'm on. He was planning to be prepared for a week and go from there. No plan for this no plan for that. His one situation was what he was focused on and boy was he good in that one situation but you twist it from b to d you know really close but tweeked just enough to be different and he seemed lost. I gave him insight and it triggered his thinking juices. People we are similar and different in many ways but we all have one objective. To be prepared to survive. Share thoughts share ideas talk plans. Be obscure don't give specifics talk senerios and situations but get those juices flowing for your fellow prepper and survivalist. God speed and good luck
