DEEP RISING is the greatest creature feature ever made rip trent Williams he died in june 2023 because of a motorcycle crash caused by the car driver he was 71 I highly recommend it I've seen it over 100 times the cast is A+
Just in case you were wondering u about the transponder snails there, telepathically linked to each other the scientist in the one piece world caught wind of this and now use them to communicate a cell phones So yeah psychic snails are cell phones/ tv in this world
Btw the real reason why buggy hates shanks so much is because he was the one who made him accidentally eat the chop chop fruit. As both of them knew that it was a very bad fruit so they were planning on selling it and while they were partying im not sure what they were doing exactly shanks shocked him and it made him accidentally swallow the fruit. That explains why he blames him for everything.
for explaination seawater is the weakness of EVERY devil fruit its like a pact with the devil the sea becomes your undoing also there are OTHER abilities than devil fruits (shanks can swim so he didn't eat one)
I heard that Oda personally handpicked the cast for the Straw Hat crew from all the audition tapes. And the reason he chose the actor for Luffy was that his audition tape made Oda laugh. That's honestly kinda heartwarming to hear.
Its perfect, it fits with Luffy and his character so well. This entire project proves that love/respect for the source material is the most important part of adapting a manga.
I actually don't like the character much in the manga/anime, but I understand there's a huge fandom behind him (and the manga also plays on that lol) but in this series he was pretty great. I think because of the medium it's a lot easier to go in and out with his character and it feels like it takes too much page space away from more interesting things in the manga.
THEY. BROKE. THE. CURSE! I’m honestly really glad with how this season has gone. I hope Netflix continues with this. Edit: it’s also really validating that people who haven’t seen the amime or read the manga want to get into it from the Live action.
Nah the show is actually cringy 😂 I mean it’s better than expected but come on why does Luffy sound so corny with most of his line n Usopp acting is terrible!!
Transponder Snails, or Den Den Mushi, are a species of organic, living snails that are used for long-distance communication in the One Piece world. They are used for vocal communication, and their telepathic abilities allow them to use electronic signals to communicate with one another
@@zom8979 in the anime/manga yes, but in the live action we can see they try to move and as they do they stay above even if they can't get out of it or stay above, which shows that when they end up falling is bc they can't move, so it's the natural response to that. Basically, it makes them weak, when they just fall they can move but just a little so it's not useful and seconds after it they're not able to move anymore so they can't do anything about it at least someone else helps them.
You see, this OPLA has sucessfully delivers the 'hat giving' scene emotionally to them that never seen it before. This is the sorely purpose of live action adaptation, different medium but with the same meaning. Cant wait to see you guys react to ep 7 and 8. 😊
Let's gooooo! So happy you are loving OP! Edit: • Shanks is sort of a father figure to Luffy but he is not his father. They just dock on his Village few times when he was young. • A Devil Fruit gave you unique abilities but takes away your ability to swim since sea will weaken you (as what Makino said, Mother Sea takes that from you because you consumed a devil fruit).
@@jrlombardi5251 yeah but that's just their speculation, they don't actually *know* because it wasn't confirmed yet... even tho it's true you're basically giving them an early confirmation where they could've been proved wrong or right later by their own
@@thefreerocketman5777 in the first episode the characters literally said Luffy has no parents and is all alone, I'm not giving early confirmations, that's something they already know bc they already watched episode 1 so it was a confirmed fact and not a speculation, that is how they DO know Shanks isn't his real father but a father figure.
I take it as an insult that IGN gave this show a 6/10 while Cowboy Bebop got 7/10............WTF? Nah this adaptation is a solid 8/10 BARE MINIMUM! Its soo good! Give us a s2 of this epicness. This is a live action adaptation DONE RIGHT! Well done to the crew, cast and congrats to ODA SENSEI.👏👏👏 I'm so happy for this man right now!
Same 😭 I wanna see my 3 fav characters (obvs I won't spoil who they are) but until the strike ends we might not get it, 😭 hopefully they do renew it but it'll take a while to go into production
I rate it 6/10 too myself so I'm not particularly shocked by IGN's rating (although it's just their opinion, there's nothing bad about that). The writing is the weak point of that show. Casting is almost perfect, the set pieces are awesome, the action is mostly great, the changes they made are mostly pretty smart, it's just the god-damn writing both in term of sloppy dialogue and plot that make me rate it so low. Still it's good enough that I want more of it and I hope both the writers and the cast get the chance to get even more into the groove with a season 2.
@@ArkayjiyaIGN rated Cowboy Bebop live action 7/10 my guy. A way worse adaption, that worse in every aspects possible compare to One Piece, that despise and destroy the original. And rate OP 6/10 for "being too loyal to the source material". They rate live action adaption based on how stray from the original they are... And to them, the farther strayed, the better... Prefer no longer recognizable...
@@nameless_moon Maybe their Cowboy Bebop review is bad, I don't know I haven't read it. But even if that was the case that has nothing to do with One Piece. And 6/10 is a perfectly fair score for that one. "And to them, the farther strayed, the better... Prefer no longer recognizable..." Now you're just inventing stuff to get mad at. Do you like fighting imaginary enemies? You're probably a Doflamingo fan cause you like fighting windmills xD
Biggest issue for a S2 right now is the ongoing strike. They can still renew it for a second season but can't go into production until that's resolved. Given the scope and scale of the production, a second season unfortunately probably won't be released until 2025 at the earliest. It took them seven months to shoot and a year in post production to complete the first season.
I don’t know if the strike will affect them, it only affects one certain company of writers/actors and i don’t think the one piece crew is apart of that. i could be wrong tho
@@mk9beatz ...yeah, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, lol. It's not "one certain company" that's on strike, it's an industry-wide union for each of two professions. Literally all of Hollywood is shut down except for a few small indie studios that are willing to cut their own interim deals with the unions, which obviously doesn't describe Netflix (in fact it's one of the biggest and staunchest holdouts against giving the unions what they're asking).
Nope it will not take them this long, because 2019 we got the info that a LA ist coming they want start 2020 but Corns stops it till 2022, they got most of the costumes already, next season don’t need much ships, because logtown, drumm island ,little garden, alabasta I hope they go here 12x 90 min Episodes.
@@BebijBkBro it will, they need to cast everyone, get enough money to use for CGI etc like OP said there's a strike happening & considering Netflix is an American streaming company it affects them too, so until the strike ends we most likely won't have S2 till 2025 depending how long the strike lasts
@@mk9beatz pretty sure I heard Emily (Nami's actress) stopped promoting the show in her social medias recently bc she's supporting the strike and according to what they do in that, promoting the show would go against it. Not sure about the rest tho, I haven't made any investigation about it.
I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. The fact that folks who've never read and/or watched One Piece are getting into it is a testament to the quality of this adaptation of Oda's work.
It's so cool to hear a review from someone who doesn't know the anime. I was wondering if I should recommend this to friends but most of the people I know never watched One Piece and so I wasn't sure if it was a good show for them. I really hope this show does well, I'd be really excited for more seasons!
I binged the full season so now I'm going to make my mom watch it. She might like it. Let me know if you recommend to your friends and if they do watch it, what are their reactions? :D
You should. I never watch any kind of anime and more of a kdrama kind of person. I watched OPLA out of curiosity and yeah Mackenyu 😅 and i found my self so invested to the characters and their stories.. and now i am currently watching the anime version 😭
Wow i dont think this live action gonna be this great. Buggy looks so cool and badass in the live action. I am about to cry when shanks gave his hat to luffy.
SURPRISINGLY this show was amazing. Even the last episode of the season gave me extreme chills. You guys are in for an emotional rollercoaster when a certain blonde who wears a suit shows up
LOVING these reactions man. It's so fucking good to get genuine reactions from people who have no experience with the story prior. One Piece is not like most other animes. It doesn't care about being edgy. It just wants to have fun and is one of the most wholesome and touching experiences I've felt in a story. The live action is doing a great job at recreating those feelings
Longer OP goes on harder it’ll be for people to get into it might finish somewhere at 1,500 episodes they should really make a condensed version it’d bring in many new fans
@@Rushking20 Yeah, they really need to make a One Pace official, One Piece Kai, etc. Once they get to I think Thriller Bark is where the pacing was just so bad I stopped watching and started reading. This would also be a really neat thing for Netflix to try to get because if they can use OPLA to bring in new fans, and then they hold onto hundreds of OP anime episodes you'll have people get into it from the live action and transition to the anime for it, which would be great. But I don't see that working with how slow the anime has been for so long now.
The guy that did Buggy did one h3ll of job even though people didn't necessarily agree with how he looks, he definitely hit it out of the park and feels like he steals the scene.
You're right, I was somewhat unfair in criticizing the Netflix One Piece series unfairly, I was watching the chapters and I'm liking it a lot, I also really liked the reaction video 😊💖
@@gunnymaru2900 I was mostly referring to the cameos that show up again this season, like Shanks and Mihawk. And others who I would recognize if I saw the original.
The thing about the snails, apparently I have heard Oda (the one who made One Piece) got inspiration from a french guy who in 1850s thought snails could create permanent telepathic links between each other.
I thought it was a play on words? "Dendenmushi" means "snail", but "den" can mean either "electronic" or "telecommunications" and "mushi" means "insect". So the japanese word for snail is a homonym for "electronic communication insect"
I love the choreographies of fight scenes in this live action. It's just saddening that some fans always see and complain about characters who doesn't look like the anime characters, or complain about “the actor looks old for this character, blah blah blah.” but they never see how good actors these people are, the hard work they put in their roles. Like Shanks, they said Shanks doesn't look intimidating when in anime, shanks doesn't even look like that intimidating (to me), he looks silly. Buggy and Shanks might look silly, but these guys are crazy powerful. So Shanks’ actor is perfect, man knows how to act and how to deliver his lines. Love it. I've done watching all episodes, I'm planning to rewartch it again later but I'm really curious about other's reaction too. It's so dang good, I need more episodes. I hope they release more🙌
Like a colleague said about Shanks : ''Shanks, he's a guy who dresses like your alcoholic neighbor during barbecues! He becomes badass only in the middle of the series!'' And this colleague is not a One Piece-fan. He prefers comics.
The live action version condenses around 40 episodes into just 8 episodes, but also changes a ton of things and has scenes that don’t show up until later in the show.
Yeah, anyone can tell it cuts some scenes and changes some details here and there, but it does also add some things that are from later on, but also some things only references (prime example being Zoro's first scene with Mr. 7, that's a canon event, but was never shown in manga/anime before) so I'm really happy to see it all.
@@Anto0fficiaIi dont think so.. they changed some scenes so there's something to look forward to. They summarized, cut and changed their stories very seamlessly without getting rid the message, plot, backstories and feels of OP. This adaptation is from manga version.. that's the reason why they showed luffy stabbing himself coz they didn't showed it in anime same with zeff where he ate his leg in manga version meanwhile in anime he lost if to save sanji
A couple minor notes that might help your enjoyment, with as few spoilers as possible: 1: The sea itself harbors hatred for those that eat Devil Fruits. Seawater (and a certain type of mineral that possesses the sea's power) will weaken them drastically, and every user loses the ability to swim. It also temporarily negates the powers granted by the fruit. 2: There's a kind of power aside from Devil Fruits that hasn't been explained yet. Normal people can use this power to train to superhuman strength and speed. Shanks never ate a Devil Fruit himself, but he's an exceedingly rare prodigy with this power, making him one of the strongest pirates of the age.
I’m 27 and have been keeping up with this anime from day one when I saw it on tv. Seeing it now in live action has me feeling like I’m in a fever dream.
When Devils fruit users all of them touch sea water they get weak and when the are fully under water they lose the ability to swim no matter how hard you try they just cant, is like a sacrifice for the abilitys. Keep in mind this world is close to 80% been water with 20% been lands There more to it but that would be spoilers area. Hope you keep enjoying the story
It is beautiful to see people who have not seen one piece and who are liking it, it is not a great feeling that someone else sees what you love the most ❤
As a one piece fan I'm just so happy one piece got so popular that it was able to make a great live action! also the snails in the one piece world were found to have telepathic powers which is why they are used to comunicate over long distances 🤣
Honestly I am amazed at this adaptation, I still remember when everyone was just scared they would ruin another great show with live action. Just show how some unexpected things like a live action on One Piece (quite a hard show to adapt) can be amazing if well adapted. Reminds me of when I learned Death Note had a musical and I thought it would be ridiculous but then I actually watched and it was amazing, I seriously recomed you guys either react to it or watch it own your, their is even the beta english allbum here on youtube and I encourage anyone who reads this to hear the songs, anyway sorry for the long comment and hope you like the rest of the show, seeing forward to your reactions
Your reactions to this are awesome!!! Especially because you haven't watched the anime or read the manga. Love to see it. Will be looking out for the rest if you plan on watching the entire series.
That scene where they executed the Pirate King had several key characters sprinkled throughout the crowd. Obviously, Red hair with a straw hat, that's Shanks. there's also a dude with a very stylised moustache we'll meet later.
I'm not sure if they decided to change it for this Live Action, but Devil Fruit user are indeed weakened by water, but, just getting wet isn't enough, unless the user has a unique weakness to that, as they can still take showers, and step into a puddle. This weakening only happens when they are submerged in water. Also, it's not just sea water, an kinds of liquid works.
When in One Piece the weakness for seawater is mentioned, it refers to any source of stagnant water after a certain height, that means that puddles, showers, rain or small bathtubs do nothing, and at the same time pools, rivers, seas and oceand do. When users are affected by standing water the effect depends on the strength of the user and the amount of water. However if the water completely covers the user's body and no one saves it, regardless of strength it you can consider it dead (Unlessite is a Fishman, in that case if something kills it, it will be hunger because even if it can breathe underwater it will not be able to move ).
Guys you're really cool reactors. Its so pertinent your observations. I remember sometime ago when you two reacted to mandalorian (when Luke appears) and I saw your reaction together with others reactors, I mean it was a composition or something, but I remembered you two when I saw you both reacting to OP trailer. Well seeing you again in these two episodes I solved to subscribe and take this adventure with you.
same with me after I watched the entire op live action show, I jumped right away to binged watch the anime version and now I;m at episode 996. live action and anime version I love it both
20:36 In the anime, Captain Morgan was arrested because he was abusing his power to terrorize the citizens. It didn’t really show much of that in this version, but it showed a glimpse of it through his son, Helmeppo.
what a joy watching these reactions. The live action has enabled me to relive the experience of One Piece a second time. But watching you guys has given me a third experience. Great watch.
17:44 Being submerged in water will take away the energy of Devil Fruit eaters. They become paralyzed and don't have enough energy to move, let alone use their powers. Apparently, Buggy used to be an excellent swimmer before he got his powers. Eating a Devil Fruit doesn't make you forget how to swim, it just immobilizes you in the water.
Regarding the weakness to seawater, it isn't unique to Luffy. All devil fruit eaters are affected by it. The current theory in the lore is that devil fruits alter the "lineage" of a person (essentially the concept of DNA, but mixed with a bit of mysticism). The sea is (much like in our world) the source of all life, meaning all living things are connected to the sea by lineage. By eating a devil fruit, your lineage gets corrupted, so the sea rejects you.
From what I understand, the same studio behind the Cowboy Bebop live action was in charge of the One Piece live action. Boy, what a turn around! XD Helps greatly that Oda was heavily involved.
There are 2 type of power, Haki & Devil Fruit. Most with both power either become Warlord or Admiral. I still remember in year of 2000 I brought a cds and introduced one piece to my friends, next few months all kids from the village started watching one piece over Dragon Ball, Naruto & Bleach. One Piece is packed with everything.
I’ve been a One Piece fan since the cursed 4Kids dub, and I really enjoyed the adaptation. Not perfect by any means and I had some complaints with it, but overall think it’s a solid 7.5-8/10 show. Love seeing people who aren’t familiar with the source material experience it for the first time! Also, the casting is near flawless. Especially Buggy
15:07 Devil fruit user get weaker when their body comes in contact with any still water. Moving water like rain doesn’t weaken them, if the water is ankle deep they can still move around when half their body is submerged they become immobilized.
So cool to see you guys not knowing things that we readers known for such a long time, it’s gonna be a wild adventure for the two of you discovering this wonderful world
He probably doesn't know who Shanks is because he isn't as influential as other pirates of his rank, nor as old (it's only been two years since Luffy's adventures began that Shanks attained his current title). Moreover, he is mainly active on the Grand Line, not on East Blue.
@@cyriellequirion8883 isnt influencial? Lol this man is one of the 4 most powerful pirates in the world...how can you say an emperor is not influential?...emperors and warlords are known throughout the entire onepiece world..as a bounty hunter zoro should know about them
@@sanelisomxinwa8916 That's not what I say. I say that Shanks isn't the most influencial Yonko BETWEEN the four originals Yonkos. When Luffy take the sea, Shanks is a Yonko since 2 years. He's a big name... but with the most low bounty between Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom. He's a fleet and territories, but compare with the three others, it's nothing. Yes, Shanks had power. A lot. But for people in East Blue, isolated for the three others Seas ? He's a nobody. I mean, Shanks is a pirate with a B1,040,000,000 bounty in the scene with Higuma and NOBODY know that ?!
@@cyriellequirion8883a nobody? Dont be dumb these ppl have posters of bellamy and you think they don't know about shanks? C'mon use your logic these ppl even know about warlords and you think they don't know about emperors ?
About Seawater: It basically is the pause button on Devil Fruit Powers. The amount of weakness one suffers is equivalent to their own willpower, strength, and how much of them is submerged. If fully submerged, they are basically paralyzed and at the mercy of sinking into the ocean. With any measure of their body out of the water they can use a bit of their power if they have enough willpower to like... force it I guess? There's instances where akle deep water is nothing but knee deep is enough to make a Devil Fruit user feel like they kissed Rogue from X-Men.
Its really entertaining to see your blind reactions. It makes me, a one piece fan who knows a lot of things about this show eager to see your reactions to future revelations.
Buggy is so good! I love that they played him like the Joker. And that he had a literal captive audience. Honestly the most engaging part of the entire season to me is that we are following Koby because it really is the newest material. Garp is also a standout to me. I love the way they did Luffy's backstory with Shanks and the Lord of the Coast. Shanks did have the line “You’re putting your life on the line by pointing that at me" and I'm sad they didn't keep it. I always thought that was the most badass line. And pretty integral to the way Shanks lives his life. I love that each episode's title screen is a different Jolly Roger!
YuYu Hakusho also has LA adaptation coming this December. If you don't know what YuYu is, it is the manga series done by Togashi before Hunter x Hunter
"like the equator" Remember there are four blues: North, East, West and South and they're created by the perpendicular intersection of the red line (the biggest continent) and the grand line (the fifth sea). Which means that the red line and the grand line are both diagonal if you put the north on top and south on bottom so neither can correspond to the equator. The Live action had Shanks use a boat because it made more sense but in the manga and anime, Shanks swims to save Luffy which means that at the time at least (since this is far in the past) he didn't have a devil fruit. And yes sea water both weakens DF users and make them sink (even though human bodies should float most of the time), that's why Luffy can't free himself even though Nami's stick is enough to break the glass.
little info: the ability of Shanks have is called Haki tho it was not fully explained and revealed yet in LA .. Haki is a mysterious power that allows the user to utilize their own spiritual energy for various purposes .. there's a lot more to know about Haki and its users usually called the 'chosen one' so better watch the animeeee tho too many episodes to watch before it got fully introduced ..
At the beginning of the episode Makino explains to Luffy that eating a devil fruit is making a deal with the devil, you get special powers but in exchange you lose your ability to swim! And how that works is that the sea hates the devil so if you eat a devil fruit you will be like an anchor in sea and drown. But if the water is not too deep then it just weakens you
