Btw, the reason Loguetown is being referred to as the city of beginning and end is cause the word Logue. The word is based off both Prologue (which is the start of a story) and Epilogue (The end of a story).

Oda also often intentionally use similar sounding words so it can also be "Rogue" town because there are many pirates and mobs around.

I thought it was just a play on the word Rogue, because Japanese find it hard to distinguish between L and R sounds lol! Besides it's fitting, cuz the place actually Is crawling with rogues n pirates of all sorts.

So, just a little info about the manga: Oda often draws side stories in the cover pages of each chapter. These stories are canon since they always impact the manga again. This is one of those cover stories. Unfortunately, only two of the cover stories ever got animated.

I hate that instead of animating the existing cover stories to fill the time, Toei decided to just include increasingly worse filler and drawing out eps turning the pacing to garbage instead

Yes and no. On their own, yes, only two. This one, which was the first ever, and the next one. While many were completely skipped, there are some, specially lately, like the eating guy from the winter island's, the whale shark's, or the muddy stowaway's, that got sorta summarized when the relevant character appeared. From the ones that were fully skipped, the one that bothered me the most was the dancing one, because when the characters appear I have no idea how they got there, and it's annoying. Lightning one would be on the same spot, but there's been no follow-up to that one yet

@@jazzycat8917 big agree. can't believe toei has that free material and they'd rather draw punches that take one full minute each. lately it's been better but there are plenty of dips in anime pacing that could've easily been fixed by skippable cover story fillers.

The hermit crab could be symbolism of “moving on.” We’re almost at the end of the East Blue saga, and when we saw the hermit crab in Syrup Village it was struggling to climb up a cliff. Now that we’re getting close to the Grand Line the hermit crab jumping back into the sea could be viewed as symbolism of moving on to the next step.

luffy not getting sick is a joke made by the author, in japan they have a saying about how idiots can't get sick, it was pretty popular joke in old animes like in the 90s and before, another popular joke they don't use anymore is a crow passing by yelling "aho, aho..." where aho is idiot in japanese.

Just to be clear, the brand Doskoi Panda that Sanji had on his apron is *not* the same as Pandaman. Pandaman is a human with a panda head and heart shaped nipples that sometimes can be found within crowds like a "Where's Waldo" but Doskoi Panda is a famous clothing brand in the One Piece world!

The Panda on Sanji's apron is not Pandaman. It's just a popular clothing brand that exist in the world called Doskoi Panda. The panda featured there is based of a rare animal in that world. Interestingly, similar to how Gucci or Supreme has ripoffs, Doskoi Panda is so popular that it also spawns multiple ripoffs within the universe like a brand named "Dosko1 Panda". This is one of a running gag/ easter eggs in One Piece.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet (probably have), but buggy getting confused between words is more of a Japanese translation issue. For example in Japanese the word they use for "grave" is haka or 墓 and the word for "nose" is hana or 鼻, so to buggy they sound really similar and since he is protective of his features, he gets defensive. Another example of this is like when alvida did the same thing in episode 1. It's simply just a Japanese language barrier, so it's hard to translate the joke

So a small clarification: 1. Buggy farting comment was most likely a pun in japanese that he mishears (like the nose puns that often anger him) 2. In japan it is believed that when someone is talking about you behind your back it causes you to sneeze spontaneously (or at least its a common enough anime trope) 3. In japan it is said that idiots cant catch colds hence luffy and zoro never got sick 😂 Just suddle humor u may have missed the context for

I love how Buggy's and Luffy's powers are also similar and same time so very different as well as also their characters. Buggy can be shot and punched but not cut and Luffy can be cut but not shot or punched. Both of them are capable of longer distance attacks also.

These episodes are based off cover stories in the manga btw. Each chapter has cover art page before we get into the actual content of the chapter. Sometimes these art pages will tell a story so we get 1 page per chapter and it is happening simultaneously with whats happening in the chapters. They animated a few of the cover stories early on, but they stopped after a bit.

These little set-up episodes with little action but lots of characterbuilding are one of the many stand-out ingredients in what makes OP so special. Not many shows give their characters room to goof off just to build a personality, and even fewer use such episodes to set up bigger plot-loops...

so these 2 episodes arent based on manga chapters. rather they are based on some of the chapers covers, where oda like to tell little side stories that are going on in the world outside the straw hats

Buggy is an enemy that is hard to hate, one of Oda's favorite enemy characters... there are always surprises with Buggy... similar to Usopp's misfortunes and luck... one of the differentiators in this anime... heheehe

Buggy is that one character who isn't really at all evil... He's just the guy who does whatever he wants like Luffy... He isn't like someone like a certain One Piece villain(no spoilers) or any other. He just wants to do his thing and has hatred for Shanks because he felt betrayed lol🤣🤣
