Daaaaaaamn, I'd never thought of this in my more than 15 years, of reading OP. Almost made me cry when she said that, like, in a moment, all the times Zoro is just sleeping through whatever is going on and even through the worst weather ever... just to see Kuina again...
Fun fact: Iron Fist Full Body and his girl made a cameo in the live action as well. He was the marine who was about to start a fight with the pirate over who gets to sit where before Sanji intervened
and sanji offered to pour them each a glass of ithurzburger-stein on the house, in order for them to not fight. It is the same wine fullbody "guessed" here
When i went to engeneering school i knew a guy from one class above me. When he graduated he was about 21 years old. Not even a year after he finished school, he sliped on the stairs to his basement, fell down, broke his neck and instantly died. Life really is abdolutely fragile and unpredictable. Even more motivating to value every day you get to live.
A guy I went to school with died from a heart attack at age 18. At that age you have a very good chance to survive a heart attack if you are treated in time. Sadly, he collapsed in a parking lot between some cars. When he was found, he was already dead. - yes, life really is fragile and unpredictable. People would be surprised how many stories like Kuina's acctually happen in real life, if they asked around.
@@bluelight17 i think it was worded weirdly but sanji is basically mocking fullbody who was boasting about knowing all kinda wines and then he points out the bug next time, so sanji says i dont know much about insects as if fullbody is trying to boast about how he can recognize different bugs just like the wines.
I think that's only in the English translation. I've heard that in the original Japanese, it's more like 'What is this bug?' (as in, what is this bug doing in my soup) and then the reply is 'I don't know, I'm not an expert on bugs' which makes more sense than the way the anime translated it.
Backstroke? We didn't get that joke in the brazilian translation of manga, over here we just got the "- What is this bug? - I'm sorry sir I'm not a bug expert"
22:20 In the manga, the joke went something like this - Fullbody: Hey waiter! Do you serve soup with insects in this restaurant? Sanji: Huh? Fullbody: What is this bug?? Sanji: How would I know sir? I'm not an expert on insects. Sanji outwitted Fullbody which is why the other customers started giggling at Sanji's response :)
The same can't be said about his daughter though. And it's totally on the make up department, what did they do to her nose? Sure the actress has a more bulby than average nose, but it looks so much bigger in the show.
"She was looking for a sharpening stone" Now why would she need one? Because the Wado Ichimonji she fought Zoro with had to be taken care of. It's not mentioned explicitly but I believe Zoro realized that him challenging her with real swords indirectly caused her to die.
I believe the prevailing fan theory is that her dad killed her because he didn't want the family sword to pass to a girl. It's also why he always told her she could never be the best swordsman to discourage her from wanting the sword. or something like that anyway lol
@@jorgeporras9262 i dunno about that, its a pretty common one and 100% what we all thought (me and my mates that is) as kids watching the show for the first time
15:05 Trivia: The term “limey” to refer to Brits originated because English sailors predominantly used limes to prevent scurvy. It’s the vitamin C which is why Oranges (and Tangerines for Nami 😉) are a go to, but different regions had different fruits available.
24:05 Yes, you did. Him and Crescent-Moon Gally, the main antagonist for the Romance Dawn one-shot that preceeded One Piece manga, are the ones fighting on the first scene of the Baratie, when Sanji kicks theit butts without dropping the tray with food he is carrying
"Scurvy...it's common amongst pirates..." Haylo looking like Nami explaining the layout of the seas in the LA all matter of factly 😂🏴☠ Also, fun fact...the bug on Baratie has a name. The smallest named character in One Piece, "Batchee". Someone randomly asked Oda in his Q & A section. 🤔
Kuina's death is one of the most heart breaking death in the series. Especially for Zoro, there's no person or thing he can channel his pain and anger it's just an unfortunate accident. Even if he becomes the strongest and defeats Mihawk he will never feel the strongest as there's one person he never managed to defeat, Kuina.
I don't remember him being from another village and not knowing his sensei beforehand, but I'm guessing that's anime original, and it totally breaks the current canon because we know that Zoro and Kuina are relatives and that their families only live in that one village.
@@jorgeporras9262Zoro didn't know his sensei beforehand and his line about being from another village and being undefeated was a lie. The sensei probably knew he was related somehow because of his physical features which is why he let him into the dojo and gave him the Wado Ichimonji.
Fullbody was in the live action, but he was fighting some other dude there and Sanji offered them a drink to stop fighting, when they refused and kept wanting to fight he beats them both if you remember... Bit different but he was there.
The part i didn't like about that is that Sanji offered wine to people who threw food on the ground. Manga/anime Sanji would have beaten their asses immediately for that lol
@@bluelight17 Yeah the LA wasn't perfect, but I appreciate it because it brought new fans to watch the anime, like these 2 here... It was good enough.
@@-ACE. yeah. Honestly i thought the Baratie eps, as their own thing, were the best done in the LA. As a Sanji fan though i was disappointed cause he felt more like a side character in his own arc, and i missed his interactions with a certain character.
The reason why Zoro always sleeps during the day is that he always stays up late to guard the ship at night and he is said to be the one who gets the least amount of sleep to protect the crew and the crew is unaware
This is something straight out of Two Piece. Oda-sensei already said they take shifts doing guard/lookout duty. Everyone contributes to keeping the crew safe when sailing. Zoro isn't the only one losing sleep to protect the crew.
@@cheshirecat5155They're not entirely wrong. Zoro is predominately the one who takes the night shifts just by virtue of his sleep schedule already being really late at night (he goes to sleep around 4 am and wakes up at 7 am, and supplements with naps throughout the day) This is from the chapter 737 sbs iirc.
@@scrunglee Where does it say that? They alternate every two hours as lookout. Nowhere does that SBS say Zoro takes most of the night shifts because of his sleep schedule. Like I said, something straight out of Two Piece.
@@intensemk1381 Where did he say this? Link to the interview or SBS? This is something the Zoro fans made up. Zoro is already a cool character. There's no need to make up stories to make him look better. That's why other fans consider some Zoro fans the worst of the fandom because they purposely read One Piece wrong and make up things in their head just to prop up Zoro when there is absolutely no need to do so. Edit: SBS in question ONLY says their average sleep schedule, that 2 people are on shift (front and back) and that they switch every 2 hours. Zoro fans are purposely adding headcanon that Zoro "takes up most of the night shift" because of his sleep schedule. Again, unnecessary addition to Zoro's character just to make them feel good about their favorite character being so great. Sadly, many Zoro fans are the ones who misunderstand Zoro's character the most because instead of actually understanding what is in the manga, they make up headcanon of the Zoro they want.
22:19 i think there is a little miss translation in full body's word it's more like "what bug is this? " and sanji respond with "i don't know much about insect"
A good many things were nerfed in the early anime. Mostly self-harm stuff like Young Luffy stabbing himself in the face, Zoro stabbing himself in the side vs Cabaji, and Zeff [edit: cutting off and] eating his own leg. At least by the time they got to Arlong Park the producers at Toei figured out "Oh, this is just gonna be like a thing that happens, we should probably lean into it rather than try to keep sanitizing it because we're afraid kids can't handle it..."
i randomly found you guys one day, and you both give me such a cozy feeling, just looking at you while you watching my fav anime. please dont let this end. i really love it.
Personally, I don't mind how a lot of the crew's faults were shown to be liabilities because it emphasizes that they have a long way to go before they're strong enough to handle what the story is gonna throw at them. What really bugs me with the Live Action's portrayal of Usopp is that they didn't really show how his defining characteristics can be an asset to the crew despite the liabilities they come with. Yeah, he lies as a response to trauma for both himself and Kaya, but we aren't shown him lying to protect those he cares about, as in the Manga and Anime. He really only gets one moment to shine in Arlong Park where his he uses his cleverness and good aim to take out Chuu who we weren't specifically shown as being a threat to the rest of the crew that only Usopp could deal with. For arguably the weakest character in the East Blue saga (and I mean Character, nevermind the power-scaling), Tomorrow studios really didn't do Usopp any favors.
@@curtishammer748 Yeah, like he didn't want any credit for helping saving his own village in the manga, and decided to just lie about it to make it a regular day for the villagers. As for Chuu, it just didn't have the emotional impact of the manga, when he felt embarrassed of himself for thinking of lying to his friends and decided to face his own fears, risking his own life despite not being as strong as Luffy, Zoro or Sanji. He may not be a fan favorite between manga/anime fans either, but the LA just took away all his best parts, i saw plenty of non OP fans wondering why he was even with the crew...
Kid Zoro was voiced by an adult woman with over a decade of professional voice acting experience, which is a strong benefit of the medium. With live action they have to find an actual child who looks similar enough, and has the requisite skills (can swordfight), and the pool and experience of people meeting those criteria is much smaller.
Luffy's treasure tab is a thing in the manga. He does it with the bartender back in windmill village (I dunno if the manga adapted that) and also later flashbacks. He just doesn’t do it at the baratie.
Down D Stairs takes its first victim of the series. As for scurvy, any source of Vitamin C will work, so any citrus fruit will work, fermented cabbage dishes as well. There's a reason you can find Citrus fruits across the world, as they were planted in overseas territories by the empires in the age of sail.
A lot of people seem to miss it, but Kuina's father says she can't be the /strongest/, not the best. And the reason everyone laughed at the insect thing was because they translated the joke wrong. It was meant to be "Waiter! What's this bug in my soup!?' And the Sanji would say "I'm sorry Sir, I don't know, since I'm not very knowledgeable about insects."
its hard when you think about it, she was going for a stone to sharp the sword, she used the sword cause zoro ask her to. Maybe deep down he blaims himself, if they didint fought she would be alive
the way oda pulls tells his story is pulling on your hearstrings in a way that will have you choked up because of a backstory and then he will put the story together in a way that will have you audibly gasp with tears of joy in your eyes as will is inherited or justice is served in the story. you will cry a lot lot during the next 1000 episodes.
You guys saw Fullbody in the LA. Sanji beat up a pirate and Fullbody at the beginning of Baratie. Love your Reactions, I cant wait for the moment you two decide to keep going instead of waiting for the LA to continue :D Edit: At around Minute 7 in your Reaction to Episode 5 of OPLA
[SPOILERS AHEAD] I think it's beacuse of the plot point you're talking about that the Live Action handled Kuina's death so vaguely. I remember some reactors didn't actually believe she was dead because they didn't say how or show a body. I'm almost certain that Tomorrow Studios is trying to set up intrigue as to whether Kuina and Tashigi are somehow the same person as some fan theories go...
I always assumed that Zoro feels guilty because the reason she fell and died was because agreed to his challenge with real swords. Challenge with real blades> duel > sharpening stone to maintain the blade > fall > death
actually the marine fullbody was seen in the liveaction ^^ right before the moment he talked about the blonde girl, fullbody was sitting right next to her :D. but it was just an easteregg for anime watcher :D
24:10 Fullbody is in the live action, in a very small cameo. He's one of the two dudes fighting over a table when Sanji first comes out into the restaurant, where Sanji immediately beats up both of them. Still gets more screentime in the live action than Chou Chou, who is arguably much more important.
some say the white sword cursed kuina after she falters like that before zoro, because it only accepts the strongest wills, causing her to slip and fall
12:58 remember zoro as he is now the way he enjoys life laughing.... You'll never see him laughing like that after baratie ark. Everything is gonna change for him afterwards. ❤❤✌🏻
This will be even more exciting, lots of things will happen in this restaurant and it will be more interesting than the live action... keep up the enthusiasm for watching, we will always support you.
sanji's joke was funny atleast or so i thought because before when the wine was being served, and fullybody the marine was explaining his "profound" knowledge of the wine that was supposed to be served, and then everybody laughs when he totally got it wrong, so when the bug was in the soup, sanji was like I'm sorry I don't know since i (personally) don't know a lot about insects, and it was funny because of the scene before with the wine where he seemed to have the personality of a show-off and know it all, so the joke was more like "maybe you can tell me more about why there is a bug in your soup" yup that's what i think made sense to me tbh
"Ainiki" is an informal term of respect, which translates loosely as "big bro". Kinda like how old ladies in some cultures are called "auntie", even if they're not your real aunt.
YAYYY the baratie is so fun in the anime, I cant wait for you guys to see the rest!! Theres some cool fights coming up and some scenes that always make me cry, even after watching/reading them so many times 😢
Obligatory "No, 'Kuina fell down the stairs and died' ISN'T a Japanese euphemism for suicide" comment. Where did this come from anyways? I've never heard a Japanese person claim this - it's mainly an English-speaking fandom thing from what I can see.
It's a bit like the baseless rumor that a certain character in Alabasta didn't die cause of 9/11. There is zero source of Oda ever saying anything like that (and if true he should have cut that sequence altogether), but it got so widespread people just tell it as if it were true.
Sanji was mocking him. First, very cocky, he asked Sanji if the wine was X brand, and Sanji humiliated him by telling him the correct brand. Then, again very cocky, he asked Sanji if they served bugs with their sup, and Sanji was like: Oh, I’m sorry, I can’t help you with that one buddy, I’m not an expert in bugs 😂
For what I read about culture and honor in Japan, is common to say somebody had an "accident" when they commited sucide to not dishonor the family, theorys say that Kuina may had do that for depression afther what she heard about not heritage the dojo and never be as good as a man.
Oh no, not this again. Long story short, the idea that "'Kuina died in an accident' is a euphemism for suicide" is just ... no. I am in Japan, and I can confirm I've never seen a Japanese person interpret the story this way at all. It's always English-speaking fans online who do so. And it also doesn't make much sense narrative-wise: why would Kuina off herself after making that promise to Zoro? IMO that's a more dishonorable move. (Besides, they don't even say 'accident' - they explicitly say (in the manga) "Kuina fell down the stairs and died." 'Accident' may be a euphemism in some cases, yes, but "fell down the stairs" isn't.)
Zoro sleeps a lot because he basically only taking naps all the time. Guess he has a kind of insomnia that Oda wrote for his character, but never mentions in the manga :D
Something that I don’t see people mentioning often: Kunina died looking for a sharpening stone. And the guy at the funeral asked “why would she need that?” She needed it because Zoro asked her to duel with real swords. I believe Zoro knows this and blames himself for Kuina’s death. That may be why he drinks so much.
the funny part was Full Body asked sanji what is that ??? (Bug in the soup) And sanji answerded I dont Know sory I don't know much about bugs (What type of bugs it is) Since for Sanji having a bug in the soup is nothing .
It's sad right. She says "that will never happen." And he never did have a chance to beat her in a match. So light if you don't think about it. Also.. in Japan, I believe I heard that the phrase about how she died is what they say when one 'ends' themselves. So idk how your meant to take it. Yeah. Scurvy on point. It causes every single scar however old, inside and outside your body to start to bleed like new wounds. Scary. Side note/fun fact- Just thinking about it at random: Everyone thinks Luffy in fights doesn't kill because he wouldn't do that. But I'm fact, he has a reason. His dream is to be the freest. If you don't have any dreams, he doesn't really look your way. If your dream contest his, in confrontation, he takes there dreams from them.
22:28 he basically called him an insect...he knew it was him because he know the standards, a bug on a plate served is not a thing at zeff's baratie, sanji knows that, that's why he immidiately insulted him because he knew he put the insect on the plate himself.and he answered like "i dunno why there is an insect in your soup... you look like you should know what insects are up to, hmm? i do not understand japanese but that is what i got from that, very fitting for sanji.
That absolutely was a nod to the blonde. But also, full body and the blonde were in the live action. He’s the guy that got into a fight that Sanji kicks before he comes to the strawhats table.
Zoros three sword style is because he uses two sword style, but he's carrying Kuinas sword in a way to bring her along on the journey to become the world's greatest swordsman. Every time he puts wado ichimonji in his mouth, it's like she's with him
I love the origin delivery of that line in the dub. The way his actress first delivered it and the original translation was so good. I hate they changed it, later 😅
I'm pretty sure Zoro sleeps all the time because he's literally always training his body when he's not asleep, so he's probably physically exhausted constantly. But yeah, the Zoro backstory stuff, while done well in the live action, is super-good in this. And yeah, people were suspicious of Kuina's dad forever, and thought that there was some weird conspiracy involving her and the dojo, and then I think Oda confirmed that no, she just died in a freak accident and it didn't have anything to do with any big plan or anything. It just happened to show that no matter how skilled and well-trained you are, the world can just kill you out of nowhere.
I feel like Kuina's story hits just a bit harder in the anime, since you get to see that it's her father that told her she can't be the greatest swordsman in the world.
The translation for the bug in the soup part is a little rough here for some reason, but basically Fullbody is asking "What is this bug in my soup?!" And Sanji answers "I wouldn't know since I'm not an expert in insects." It's not a joke that really needs explaining but the way it was translated is weird, since they miss the whole "what is this bug" part.
I do hope we’ll get an additional Zoro flashback at some point. I would like to know why he was so fanatical as a child about being the greatest swordsman. What happened to his parents?
Zoro sleeps for 2 reasons. 1 is to heal his body from heavy training and 2 is because he’s a Buddhist, so he feels the need to control his spiritual side to match up with his body.
Definitely my favorite reaction channel. It's cool how close you sisters are. My brother and I watched this show together and would get so hyped before and after lol. The next show you two should watch is Berserk: Golden Age Arc Memorial Edition. Please! 😊
