Paul TheSkeptic Tattoo is blown to signal lights out and quite in the barracks. Tattoo's are performed in the Military District of Washington, the UK and many Commonwealth countries. They are held in the evening, and often draw several bands. The Tattoo at Edinburgh is perhaps the finest and best known in the world.
Becky Ryan maybe it was like Dudley More waking up in the Hotel to the mariachi song "negrita de mis pesares song". at the Bo-Dereck movie "ten".... .....
Now this brought back some pleasurable memories of when I was a kid and went to summer camp. They must have played about 75% of these tunes there. I don't know these tunes by name, but I sure knew what they meant when they were played. Especially the tune that was played when it was time to eat.
+IRUNASSAULT I don't think that our principal (a nice lady who hadn't served in the Armed Forces ) had much of the important knowledge or time that you seem to have.
+IRUNASSAULT No, the one after Retreat - Call to Colors. It replaces the National Anthem when played by a solo bugler, or when National Honors are repeated after the Anthem has been played.
I had no idea any Americans did anything that wonderful and creative. You're so lucky, more info would be great. I'm an American also, the 30 trillion dollar national debt is shameful.
Missing in this video: Attention Call, Church Call, Fatigue Call, Fire Call, Pay Call, School Call, Taps and To Arms (and of course the old battlefield direction calls)
I have to tell you this a great Vid! My cat goes crazy, she absolutely loves it. The quality is excellent, she sings to the calls. Thank so much for putting it up. I occasionally listen to it brings me back to when I was in Army boot camp. I always loved listening to Colors at the end of the day.
That one at 2:45 meant "Fall In Line" and the tune at 3:27 meant "report to the mess hall". The tune at 4:40 meant to head for the boone docks, turn in, and prepare for lights out. I am not sure if Taps was played a short time after that or at the lowering of the flag from the pole. All in all, summertime meant eight fabulous weeks at overnight summer camp.
One talented bugler (or trumpeter). I recognize some but not all. A list should have been provided for each title and use Something like "Last Post" was heard but not surecit was there..
This is an excellent video with all the calls named in the "About" column. Thanks for posting. Now I can learn my favorite trumpet calls on my guitar. Like when Hendrix stopped the National Anthem to play taps for the soldiers in Viet Nam At the Woodstock music Festival in 1969 :-D
My children had a fit this morning when I played it. They've not been doing their chores since being home as a result of COVID19. Being deemed an essential worker, had not been home to see things carried out...well this morning they got a surprise! Yelling that the sound was annoying saying they are getting up begging me to turn it off...its 15 minutes in they have started their chores😆
@@davidloken869 David you are absolutely right. This is the most time as a family we are spending together and I'm enjoying every moment. As working parents you sometimes feel guilty for not spending enough time yet the reveille moment was priceless😆
@@GrimReaper16 a person would if they been playing them for a long while and were used to what calls they were... but even that sometimes it is easy to get confused as to what call is what
2:15 is to the colors and 2:45 is retreat. to the colors is played at 1700 every day on army bases preceeding retreat by a few seconds. the colors are retreated during this call as all traffic stops and everyone gets out of their vehicles and all other stop to render salutes.
Wow! My Father was a highly decorated career US Army officer that came up through the ranks . He could play these on our old US bugle. Memories from my childhood! Wow.
The Call that was played between 2:46 to 3:23 was played on a episode of F-Troop. They played it at sundown as they were lowering the flag. So is it Retreat?
+kiltarrah Taps is played at the termination of the officers guard shift. usually at 11pm 12pm. Taps is not played when the flag is being lowered. It is "to the colors" and "retreat".
Im a military support bugler which means I serve as a military bugler as a civilian that has an agreement to serve with a public organization. Love the blue horn and I know what that is.
OH MY FUCKING GOD MY ALARM IS THE ONE AT 1:02 AND I WAS SO FUCKIN SCARED CUZ FOR A SEC I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I MISSED MY ALARM FOR SCHOOL TODAY AND THERE WUZ SCHOOL
I thought the tone was especially clear and precise--must be a good horn in addition to a good musician. What about "taps," though? And thanks for the audio-video.
you did not have the field commands in here or the other camp commands.. and when you have the " charge " in here DONT use the one everyone thinks of.. that one was not introduced until the 1870s
Some of these calls are the same or similar to 6 originals used by the 2LD in 1777. It really would be nice to have labels and history of each call. Were these played on a real bugle or a trumpet?
What’s that one played at 02:00 and retreat is played right after that, whenever we do a ceremony that plays and on the second time it sounds forward March would be sounded
