I didn’t laugh, but I did grin a bit. I was thinking about to two components of the word “cockchafer”, and since “chafe” means abrade/rub... well, my sense of humour is a little immature.
@@anitaremenarova6662 Thats true but then again, having enough money to not have to work ever again doesnt mean he wouldn't want to find another career or hobby to spend his life doing
i would totally do this but i feel like if i did it it would be so embarrassing for me and nobody would really wanna listen to it. i don't know if this is weird but sometimes when i'm listening to podcasts and the person/people says something that brings back an old memory or something i'll pause it and just kinda talk to myself about that memory i feel like i'm sharing way too much sorry lol
@@two-headed-calf no i completely understand that! don’t apologize for talking about what you’re passionate about! if you want to do it then do it! i’ll give it a listen!
@@two-headed-calf don't apologize! That's really interesting and I do similar things :DD. Honestly, I get you. I'm afraid that no one would want to listen to what I have to say, but that's okay. As long as your passionate I think people are attracted to that and will naturally want to listen, just like how wilbur's passionate so we want to listen more to him rambling!!
@@two-headed-calf I don't know you but I would still listen! I love listening to people talk about things they are passionate about because of the fact that I often end up rambling to myself the same way, and don't have anyone to say these things to. If you care about what you are saying, people will like listening to it :)
@@sidveed It was on Phil's stream a while ago! Wilbur was talking about how he was roaming around a lake in the middle of the night to get some lake water for his eco system!
the mental image of Wilbur at the sea shore in the middle of a stormy night digging through the dirt and washed up sea weed while standing knees-deep in the water, what a sight
Wilbur is probably one of the most interesting people I’ve encountered on RU-vid, this man has so many interests and is so knowledgeable on random different topics. He’s got fun stories from his past and everything. Wilbur is the most entertaining person to have a conversation with.
@@LyricalStranger he actually posted a Twitter post on I think it was an alt and then deleted it later to clear things up because he noticed after he said that people got upset. I’m sorry I don’t have the evidence, but I know that he talked about how he didn’t mean for it to come off that way, and it was mostly jumping off of a joke/bit he was doing in the moment. But he did say he doesn’t lie about everything, just the things that are private to his personal life, which is completely respectable. He wouldn’t lie about his interests and such.
@@ciaramcdonagh6870 same I have to listen to something to go to sleep. ever since stampy and squid did their podcast I listened to that to sleep when I was young and now wills doing this it made me so happy T.T
My first thought was "why is he talking about bugs suddenly" Than I remembered how he was calling Phil in the middle of the night when he was out searching for stuff for his eco system just a few days ago
i was laying down listening to this in my bed, when i hear “it was a f*cking moth”. i cannot tell you how hard i just laughed, my head shot up and i just started wheezing
I love how a while back on a live stream Wilbur was talking while he was outside at 12am sounding a crazy as he was out getting stuff for his ecosystem jar and spontaneously said “I should have a podcast” and not a month later here we are
I don't know about everyone else, but I've only ever known woodlice as rolly pollies and potato bugs?? I am absolutely enthralled by all of their names. Everyone everywhere looked at these fellas and said "what a lovely lad. we should give em a funny little name"
Normally I don't like podcasts because I trouble paying attention to them cause I'm just not interested in what the person or people are talking about, but I could listen to Wilbur talk for hours.
Yeah, somehow I couldn't even pay attention to Welcome to Nightvale for very long, but these podcasts are both interesting and soothing. I love them so much.
Wilbur really said imma just leave the vc real quick to go and talk about bugs to a lot of teens/young adults sitting in their rooms rn and thats just awesome
This podcast is amazing....as someone who has ADHD, I have problems listening to long podcasts, but I love this podcast! I find it interesting, comforting and I love how all over the place the podcast is because it captures my attention perfectly!!! Thank you! :)
hearing wilbur just talk brings me so much comfort. idc what it’s about, but it just makes me happy. i find so much comfort in him it’s not even funny 🥺🤧
The main thing I remember is that I've never actually found a 4 leaf clover like my brother and to this day, I still haven't only my brother has found and/or picked on, I am still very jealous about it because I wanted to give it to my snake and so it was my lucky snake but now all the clovers in my garden are gone and it's sad because there aren't any nearby clover patches
it’s comforting to hear other people talk about their love for bugs. when i was in primary school, i was the one screaming at the other kids to not stand on worms and giving ladybirds funerals with leaves and flowers. i got bullied a whole bunch for doing this and it made me so sad that other people didn’t care. woodlice are friends :)
Ooo I would let ants crawl on my hands and kids would think I was weird because I liked ants. And I would also get angry when kids would step on my ant friends. | (• ◡•)|
i agree! i've always had a big love for bugs, they're so interesting. i always used to collect different bugs into containers (With airholes of course, don't cancel me) and i would take the containers with me because they had my best friends in them that's kinda sad actually but still i used to feed them and give them water and play with them
This podcast was highly improved by lying in a soccer field at night and listening to the bugs. Wilbur Soot and the crickets- a lovely combination. Thanks Wilbur :)
i wish i wasn’t as scared of bugs as i am because they honestly can be cute! but i have a huge fear of them to the point where i almost had a panic attack when i saw a spider on my arm :(
I'm really scared of bugs but when they're in a place where I know they can't bug me, I like watching them. Once I put an ant into a water bottle so I could watch it. It died the next day but it was still interesting to watch.
I'm mildly allergic to any type of bug *that does include Butterflies* so I refuse to go near them so I don't have to be in extreme amounts of pain. But bugs are so interesting and some of them are actually cute
omg I had a similar experience, a huge bug was on my arm and I started screaming and crying to get it off and everyone around me was like: "iT cAnT hUrT u" but I kept crying :)
I don’t know what it is about hearing Wilbur word vomit about his life, but it’s so comforting and I can easily sit and listen to the whole thing so naturally.
As someone who has a mild phobia of flies, that cockchafer story sounds absolutely horrifying. Although I did look them up and they actually look way cooler than I thought they would! According to the Wikipedia page as well, they were once held on trial in 1320 and that brings me so much joy
throughout this podcast i was imagining wood lice as tiny hair-lice looking ass bugs, last 5 minutes i looked up wood lice to find out that they are *ROLY POLY'S!*
When I was younger we would call wood lice ‘rolly pollies’ and they were bloody everywhere in my garden. I dont see much anymore but if I do I will treat them with utter respect.
I used to call them potato bugs or Rollie pollies and I also used to catch them and put them in jars cause they were everywhere at my grandmas house and my house
So wait why do most of us know them as rolly polies is that just a cultural name difference between Uk and US or another country like what and yea I never see them anymore but I loved to play with them when I was younger
this is one of the only podcasts I've ever listened to that has entertained me without me needing to do something else. I just stare at the screen and vibe
I'm really happy that Wilbur's doing a podcast now cuz him talking about things hes interested in is really fun to listen to :D I like listening to people tell stories and talk about things they like and stuff so this kind of podcast is so nice :DDDDD
Damn That’s impressive I had a jar full that I kept at my grandmas and I left one the next time I came the jar was gone cause she emptied it on accident and I think there was a ladybug or two in there as well :)
My cousins and I once found a worm and decided it was our friend. We named it wormy, but then dropped it, therefore killing it. We felt really sad about its death, so then proceeded to make a paper grave and bury it in my grandmas backyard.
i’m scared to look at the comments cause this feels so personal i went outside for the first time in the months just because i wanted to feel like totally alone with the podcast wilbur if you ever see this i want to thank you i love everything you do
i love woodlice! we call em rolly pollies where i live, and my family had a big ol' potted plant that they lived in. very wide pot, lots of leaves would fall into it for them to enjoy, and when i was bored i'd go and check on em. if you watered the plant they'd pop out, so id just water the plant and watch them. it was fascinating. big ones, little ones, dead ones, they'd just vibe. i miss those dudes, my mom got rid of the plant cause it was dying and she hated the rolly pollies.
wilbur soot no 1 woodlouse apologist .. in your defense i have a soft spot for pill bugs, which are like woodlouse but they roll up for fun and are tiny outside guys. used to play with them in the garden as a kid but i don't think they liked me all too much. i also had an obsession with worms but got a little bit too distraught during the summer when the worms would be baked into the pavement so i had to move along from that. we used to have milkweed growing at our house that would attract monarchs to lay their eggs on the undersides of the leaves for a long while, but eventually these bastard beetles (looked like elongated ladybugs but a bit larger still, so i think they were potato bugs) started not only eating the monarch eggs but also the milkweed itself. after that summer we never grew milkweed, and there's rarely monarchs here now. we do tend to get a lot of moths / small butterflies too, though - i used to chase around these white moths all day with a kiddy butterfly net and caught them a few times, but according to my sisters it was 'morally wrong to keep them' so i got a bit put out by that. in the same area, though, there are always a bunch of bush crickets all day long and especially at night. one time, one of the katydids got inside and decided the place to be was on our curtains; my dad caught it and wanted to show me and it's still a really cool memory! bugs are super swag except for when they're inside of my house causing problems on purpose. looking forward to the next installation :D
It’s real nice to see someone else appreciate the good men of this world: wood lice! I have a fun little story I’d like to share that this reminded me of. We had wood lice (or rollie pollies as we called them) on our back patio frequently when I was growing up. I enjoyed them, and rolled them in to little balls just as you said you did. I liked them so much, that I wanted to take them with me wherever I would go. So, I would stick them in my pockets so they could hang out while I went off doing whatever I was doing at age 4-5 or so. One day, I was out on the patio, having a blast with the rollie pollies (as I often did), before heading back inside. My mother says that when I came in, I was strangely silent. Curious, or possibly concerned by my silence, my mother approached me. She stuck out her hand. Into her hand, I deposited a mouthful of rollie pollies. I don’t believe I wanted to eat them. I just wanted to keep them with me. And I may have ran out of pocket space that day. Lesson learned. Rollie Pollies: fun to play with, not to eat. I hope you enjoyed my story as much as I enjoy rollie pollies! :)
i used to collect bugs in a massive eco shelter i had in my back garden and because i lived next to the woods there was so many different bugs. it was so cool
we called woodlouse rolly pollys and when i was younger i would always make little houses for them out of leaves. i really miss those bugs, i don’t know why but i never see them any more? next time i see one im making a house for them, don’t care that i’m almost an adult
Me and my grandmother would put them in jars and then sit and watch them and make stories about their lives. Like- this one's name is james and he is a roll Polly lawer and he makes really good hot coco :D! Then at the end of the day we would let them go and eat sandwiches while we watched them wander back home. I think activity had a really big effect on my growth :)
I dunno why but I was absolutely terrified of woodlice when I was younger, but I would never step on them because I understood they probably wouldn’t be a fan of death. I was a lot more philosophical as a child than I am now...
when i was younger i hated earwigs. They have weird antennas and weird arses and i was told that they had stingers like scorpions and be they have the word EAR in their name i assumed they crawled through your ears into your brain and stung your brain *spoiler alert:they do not do that*
i was told they would crawl in your ear and lay eggs, they still disgust me to this day even though they can’t hurt you they are not welcome near my ear canals
PLEASE show us these ecosystems sometime so we can see them, I think that would be really awesome!! It’s awesome hearing people talk about their passions and this is super interesting and I’d love to see an actual picture / video / show of them on stream so we can get a visual representation on top of your explanation! Listening to this you can really tell how much time you’ve spent taking interest in this topic and I love that so much. You’re so knowledgeable on the topic and your interest in your passions is admirable.
I'm so glad Wilbur is doing this podcast, it's so comforting. I literally can't wait until he has a bunch stockpiled and i can just put them in a playlist and listen to them back to back while doing other stuff, it's just so nice to listen to :,)
