Do you want a big outdoor storage bench.
You'll be able to store seat cushions, toys, tools, and even the kitchen sink with the one in this video.
Hi Friend, I'm Jeff from Home Repair Tutor and you'll love this outdoor storage bench because it's easy to build. And spacious!! I built it specifically for my patio seat cushions.
You don't need a ton of tools for this project. I do show you how to use a Kreg Jig. It's an awesome little carpentry tool that runs about $39 and can be bought at any home center. You'll also need a circular saw or miter saw and drill or impact driver.
The entire outdoor storage bench is made from a 2 x 4 foot sheet of oak plywood and 1 x 4 pieces of pine lumber. Make sure the pine lumber isn't warped since it will make up the sides of the bench.
You'll stack the 1 x 4s on top of each other and use pocket holes to attach them.
Watch the video for all the details. And add your comments if you think you could improve the design!! I'm all ears and love learning new stuff.

I wish you could just list all the materials in a list and measurements. For people like me, I have no ideas of what these materials are called. Do you need to paint the box for outside? Cause the rain will ruin it?

hello Jeff that was a great build I am going to use it but modify it so a small freezer will fit in it and keep it outside by the BBQ I have everything but the Kreg jig. God bless you and your family.

Nice work but flex seal is a joke. You will find out when it starts leaking.

If you want to stain this, would you do it before or after putting it together? I'm gonna try to tackle this over the weekend. Wish me luck.

That turned out pretty sweet! I like the idea of building up the sides using pocket screws. Another reason to buy the system I guess...

Jeff: I will have this project done today.. If it is ok, I am going to link this video to a blog post about this project. I will be using a polyurethane to finish the project.
@HomeRepairTutor
@HomeRepairTutor 10 лет назад
bbtjerky that's totally okay. Keep me posted on your project. I'd love to see your results. And I'd also be interested to see the poly you choose. I'm letting this wood age a bit before adding poly or stain.

Jeff Patterson Here is a link where you can see the box I built. it is a 2 part post. www.bbtjerky.com/jerky-talk-blog.html?entry=homemade-outside-firewood-box The box is completely water proof and used your video ideas for the basics to my outside firewood storage box. Great idea and thanks for the superb video

This video came at the right time. I was looking to make a outside firewood storage box. I think with a few modifications to the bottom/floor, your idea's will work superbly. A far easier way and less costly than what I was designing. Great video

Thanks bbtjerky - keep me posted on your modifications. Specifically if you find a better way to waterproof the top. I'm not totally happy with the option I chose and am brainstorming as we speak. Never thought of using this for firewood but that's an awesome idea.

Jeff Patterson The project is still a few weeks away. As far as waterproofing the top. I am thinking of using a product called Through The Roof. Have used this on many roof repairs and concrete. Brush on, clear expandable sealant, an you can paint it. Expensive but works. About $20 a quart. I would do a trial brush stroke on some scrap before doing the project.

Home Repair Tutor caulk to seal everything then several coats of exterior house paint or deck paint or a water sealant. slant the top a few degrees to let the water run off. this is one of my next projects. only my cushions are 50 long, 21 wide and 4 inches thick so needs to be bigger. going to double as a bench.

Home Repair Tutor To seal naturally: 1 part bees wax, 1 part paraffin wax and 3 parts walnut oil(any vegetable oil will work but certain oils dry naturally and others stay tacky- naturally drying oils are rape seed, walnut, tung), heat in pot (a garage sale pot, not one of your wife's unless you want to be sleeping in that box for a couple weeks), mix well, apply while still warm liberally to exterior. *Reason I don't use Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO) is because of the chemical driers in the oil and the propensity for spontaneous combustion if a mistake is made (a woman in Oregon built a log cabin, and while using BLO to seal the wood the BLO on a cloth spontaneously combusted and the whole cabin burnt down - no need tempting fate with BLO). [search internet for Dorothy Ainsworth for stories about her cabin that she built, burnt down, then rebuilt].
