Build a BIGGER BARTOP ARCADE - FULL LENGTH AND FREE PLANS!

Finally here is the video for the Bigger Bartop Arcade. This build was a request and required some creative designing to fit the specs we were going for.
I combined all 6 videos into one long film for those that did not want the 'royalty free music' played during the video. Sometime music can be a distraction so I will only use it in future videos if I think it belong. Please ask questions about the video but don't forget to check the links below. Many of my pages (build plans page, etc) have all the information you may need! Don't be afraid to read the comments below for similar questions. Can you tell I'm a school teacher? haha
I have edited the videos to follow 99% of the steps I took in building this arcade. Almost every time I pickup a tool or turn a screwdriver you will see it. Most likely in fast motion but it is still there!
Plans are currently available FOR FREE on my website as a DWG Autocad and easy to read and print PDF files!
Similar internals for this build but I've learned a few tricks in the last few years on my own and from comments on past videos. I love building these more than actually using them!

Your video was the push that took me from "I'd like to do this" to "I'm buying wood, filling in gaps in my tool set and going full speed ahead"! Thank you for documenting this process and even more for making the plans available. This will be my most ambitious project yet but being able to watch you do it provided that last bit of confidence needed. Please enjoy the lunch!

Just wanted to say thanks. You video was the inspiration I used on my build. I expanded you bigger bartop and made it an even bigger bartop, using a 32" TV as the monitor. I just scaled your plans slightly to accommodate and I think it looks and more importantly ... works great. So great work!

Most excellent video from start to finish. Really appreciate the warp speed to demonstrate the steps you took along with the excellent narration. I definitely want to take on this project and only things I may change is making my version a full console versus tabletop version and using a monitor vs TV set though I have not seen any 4K monitors. Anyway, again an excellent tutorial and am going to look through your previous projects and await new ones.

Thanks for the kind words. I tried to put as much detail as I could. There are a lot of little things I would change and it would be cool to do some fancier paint. N64 Controller = 15 buttons. 4 for the DPad directions. 1 for the start button. 1 for A. 1 for B. 4 for c buttons. 1 for Left Bumper. 1 for Right Bumper. 1 for Z button. & 1 analog stick. Your arcade setup... an analog stick, which is more like a dpad if we are being honest, and 6-8 buttons. Why are you trying to play N64 games with it? Hahahaha. Also, for air flow, you should use 3 fans minimum. 2 intake. 1 out. Or perhaps just using a big intake fan and a smaller out fan, this will have a similar effect. Doing this will create positive air pressure inside the cabinet and will ensure air gets to all the components. Great video though. Thanks. Always fun to watch you build and talk us through it.

Very nice build, love the colors, they match my buddy's Formula Mazda race car! One thing to consider is a way to hit a button to shut down the PI before turning off power. The SD doesn't like the power being just shut off. :) Mixing games, fun and teaching. Perfect!

I'm about to embark on this as a summer project, and this is the best instructional video that I've seen. I am thinking of doing a modular version, i.e. having the bartop version sitting on a separate base unit, so that I could switch from full size to bartop arcade so I can make easily move it around if needed between different locations. In order to do this right, would you suggest... To follow the full size plans but cut just below the floor of the bartop, or to make the bartop and then create a separate box base? To add some more stability to the bottom base cabinet to keep it more rigid - does it need it? Raise the bottom floor of the bartop, so there was some space below (out of sight) to hook it over some guides protruding up from the bottom cabinet to keep it in place or how would you best suggest connecting the top and bottom? Hope that makes sense! Would love to know what you think.

Wonderful!!! I'd like to put this USB fan in my bartop two. Can I take the power from Raspberry Pi3b+ even if I have already installed arcade button with leds? 2,5A power supply is enough? USB Fan take 0.2A each one in my case. Thanks for your support!

Give it a try! You can also run the fans from a separate usb power brick!

I am so glad you used nut inserts, I have seen people build cabs and drill through the side panels to insert bolts, this really annoys me as it is just laziness. I have built a couple of bartops very similar to yours but I prefer a 1.75" bezel and a 25" 4:3 monitor, I have been thinking about designing a bartop candy cab but can't make my mind up whether to 3d print or do some difficult routing for the front fascia panels, actualy thinking about it this could be the perfect excuse to buy a CNC router

Nothing beats real material vs 3d printed plastic! That being said I love my 3d printer for prototyping!

Hi there. Great build! Do you have plans for making a cabinet out of 18mm mdf? Thanks

I have a full cabinet build woth plans for 3/4" which is pretty close to 18mm. You could very easily modify those to suit your needs. Free cad plans at the link below holbrooktech.weebly.com/full-size-arcade-cabinet.html

Extremely well done!! Thank you, you earned a loyal subscriber. Question: would it be possible to mount a 52" LCD in similar manner (in a bigger box of course).
@WeBuildStuff
@WeBuildStuff 4 года назад
Any size screen can work but with the weight You would probably want both the mounting I did as well as a VESA support inside the box. I've included DWG plans that can be easily modified for this project. Thanks for the comment and let me know if you have any other questions!

And I have also build these in a carport with a drill, jigsaw, corcular saw, and a router. A lot slower but all still doable

46:13 There's a flathead screw in the bottom of the stick's shaft to turn against the ball top and get it on real tight. No need to risk damaging the visible part of the stick with vise pliers!

Nice work You dont need to drill a hole for the remote infrared. You can engrave the wood to a very thin layer from inside and it will work. It won't be seen outside. Also. Use full metal case for the raspberry and you won't need fans. It will even be significantly cooler than using heatsinks
@WeBuildStuff
@WeBuildStuff 4 года назад
The fans were also to help with airflow for the screen as I have had them overheat inside cabinets before. Good tips!

Great build, i really like it. Shame, but i dont have space for an arcade cabinet. I would make some modification to the LED strip mounting: alu LED rails for the mounting, opal diffusor to "hide" the invidual LED modul pieces and for better light spreading. The other thing is that the passive heatsinks are not enough for the Pi. Up to N64 is enough, but if u want to play PS1 or GameCube games, then you need more cooling. The 52Pi cooler is Rpi3b+ and 4/4b compatible.

That's the fun part about doing your own build. Design the way you want it and make it happen within your means and budget. My videos are only meant as a starting point. Customizing projects is always more fun! Thanks for watching!

You do terrific videos with great detail but I need to make an arcade for a 20 inch monitor and have no idea of where to start. How do I go about drawing and cutting out the first two items that you say I should start with: the sides. This is to be a bar top arcade. But I don't know how to relate what I need to draw to my monitor size??? Sorry, probably basic question.

Gonna start a bartop arcade build but with a 14" inch RGB CRT monitor. What's a good width for the cabinet if I want to implement a dual joystick module?

55cm for a control panel mininum to be comfortable next to another player. Check out the other bartop video I have up and modify the depth to fit your crt screen 😁

I'm always budget conscious for my personal builds so I usually go to whatever local electronic store has TVs and buy something on sale in the size I want. For retro games just about any new tv works. I also like to have something with audio aux out to hook up extra speaks and I like having button access or a way to aim a tv remote control.

BAD ASS! I watched the whole thing! I'm going to be assembling a MicroCenter 3/4 size cabinet possibly tomorrow (4/9/2021) to house a PC-based arcade game I like playing and this video compilation of you building this cab from scratch was very satisfying to watch! I don't have nor have access to the tools you use for these projects, but I'm sure the kit I got from MicroCenter is well made (as I've seen many others build it). I'll have to either deal with some overhang from my game's controller, or mod the button panel piece of the cab, but I'll make it work for my needs. Thanks for posting this!

@@WeBuildStuff Sure thing! Not that I can afford it but do you make custom builds for people? I was enamored by your craftsmanship and I might have missed it if you said it's for a client and not just to show your students how it's done. Oh yeah the sfx were silly and being the immature 37 year old that I am whenever you said "nuts" I internally chuckled haha.
