Hey guys could you help me out? I've started calistenics recently and I've been doing the basic movements (push ups, dips, pull ups ect) and I've always done 5 sets to failure. Is that a good way to do it or should I put some numbers and increase them over time. My overall goal is to be able to do a lot of push ups, dips, pull ups and also to do harder variations of them like muscle ups, archers and things like that I know that barstarzz aint gonna respond to this but if someone else who is knowledgeable too would then I'd appreciate it a lot :)
@bornr3tarded802
@bornr3tarded802 10 лет назад
I would say that you count the number of reps and do them till fail. Each day see if you can add a few more reps. What I like to do is always go to a five or ten rep like if you are thinking of stopping at 42 push ups push your self to do 45. This way u will get a few more in and improve. Hope this helped keep it up.
@Fallzvidz
@Fallzvidz 10 лет назад
leif Halpin this sort of thing doesn't work out in the long run, maybe for beginners yes but not for those who have been working out for a longer period of time
@bornr3tarded802
@bornr3tarded802 10 лет назад
Fallzvidz I don't under stand. U asked if u should count the reps and improve the number. I said yes. What your r doing is great. All I'm saying is that u should count the number of reps and force your self to do a few more this way u will always push your muscles further therefore improving every time instead of doing the same number and not making progress
@Fallzvidz
@Fallzvidz 10 лет назад
when I said improve the number then that meant that I add a couple more reps each week or so meaning that I will "push my muscles futher". It's basically the same thing you said to me :)
@timw6174
@timw6174 9 лет назад
Fallzvidz There are numerous ways to improve the amount of reps. Variation is key to being able to increase the amount and difficulty of your exercises. Try different paced reps, in other words try doing 20 pushups in a slow motion like negatives and then try some at a fast pace. Try different positions such as one leg to increase core strength and tension on certain muscles. Different hand positions. Try setting a certain goal every week or month depending on progress.

I would also suggest doing these moves with the legs raised so you target the upper chest then hands raised for lower chest. Get a weighted vest for more intensity. Good stuff!

For those of you that are wondering, No. Those are not from just push ups. He is from barstarzz. He does so many different workouts that shred his chest as well as multitudes of other bodyparts. Chances are he also has fantastic genetics. I am someone who has fantastic chest genetics. My chest looks like I bench somewhere around like 250 even though I bench like 210. Genetics are fantastic if you have them

depending on whether this is during, straight after or like a day later - it might be that you're not going low and/or slow enough or that you don't have that much muscle in your chest to feel the muscle soreness the next day. i had both of those problems, so just keep at it.
@gutworm45
@gutworm45 11 лет назад
Yes I understand that, what I should have said is I'll do the exercise at half reps twice a day. I've been training over 2 and half years solid but have done 3 and half of the last 4 and half years at the gym, my body is used to having to repair and rebuild and just a simple push up routine alone would not be enough training for a full days work. So I'll look at doing this twice a day, morning and evening, then at the gym I'll be doing more cardio and core work rather than lifting.

I had to double check my facts and am fairly sure you can see the Abdominis Trans. I believe you can even find plenty of medical diagrams of it to help you distinguish it. (However I may be mistaken) The key to bringing it out, really is to bring in your core and get it nice and tight. I know the Inguinal ligament brings the line below the muscle, although I cannot recall specifically what the fleshy portion is that is displayed, through bringing in the Trans. Thanks for the prompt though. :)

no, heavy weights and low reps lead to increased strengthening of the nervous system, which will eventually improve strength. high reps (8-15) low rest periods and lots of sets are key for muscle hypertrophy.

To get this chest, this guy did some bench press (flat and incline) and most likely threw in some flies all going to failure. This exercise session (in this video) is ideal to maintain your chest, but if you don't already have a full chest, all you will get is toning and aerobics muscle endurance...which is essentially a small flat chest. Do some weights, then use this for maintaining or fat burning!

Okay, from what my friend told me and he very experienced, if you're just starting out and struggling with your first set, yes, it is okay to start slowly but with perhaps five second pauses between each push up (if you are starting out). However, it is imperative to be consistent to establish progression. If you believe you can do ten, then go ahead and push yourself to do ten, and that's how you're truly able to do more and more, thus, you're increasing your strength. Push yourself!

There are calisthenic exercises that are difficult enough to do less reps with and still build tons of explosive muscle with too such as one arm pull ups, planche push ups, tiger bend handstand push ups, etc.. You'd have to learn them but they are possible and extremely effective.
