Awesome work man. You should use rosette welds on your axle sleeves next time, way stronger and all it takes is drilling a couple holes in the sleeves to weld through. To all who keep commenting on his rear suspension, it's a torsion setup off a vw bug. There are no springs because the pieces sticking in front of the rear tires twist inside like twisting a rubber band up. It recoils in the opposite direction.
I absolutely love it, it's like a miniature version of the ex Nissan Patrol buggy from years past, and the great thing about that engine is it'll run on anything oily as it's a proper Diesel engine, unlike today's super-fragile common rail things... :)
great job on the buggy mate i will have to look for your next video of it in the trails. i will start collecting parts myself to start building a buggy for myself. have a great day. mark
Just so you know at least one guy here cares: How is the GAZ M20 Pobeda. It has somewhat developed into an Interest for me. I am a Fanatic when it comes to simplicity and the M20 just gets me wild and excited. I hope it is well.
The best one you have built by far you should keep this one and get a nice coat of paint on it get some nice racing seats a racing steering wheel and clean the engine up will look like a show buggy very nice frame design too.
Advice to anyone thinking of building a buggy - do NOT neglect this elementary rule of steering geometry: Steering rack length HAS to match the width between the front wishbone mounting points. Sadly Milo is going to have major and dangerous bump steer because he hasn't done this (see 16:05). The toe in and out of his front wheels is going to change in a BIG way when the front suspension goes up & down. I'm not posting this to be critical.. I love Milo's madness.. but rather to help you avoid all the mistakes that can be made when building your own front wishbone suspension, which is a very complicated job fraught with dangers and geometric principles that many don't know about... the Ackerman principle being just another one. Steering is one thing you simply cannot just hack together. Even after studying several technical suspension books I still found it very difficult to put into practice in building my own buggy & to get the steering & suspension to work safely. Don't take my word for it: www.hotrod.com/articles/ctrp-1001-bump-steer-explained/ Having top & bottom front wishbones of equal length is another mistake, as it will cause the camber to severely change to positive as the suspension compresses. None of these things are obvious when you just cut up manufactured cars and use their complete suspension & steering systems (like with a VW Beetle front end). But when you make all the components yourself you eventually realise OME suspensions follow a whole lot of rules you never knew about. I genuinely wish Milo well with his creation... but he's headed for some dangerous problems. And Milo.. before you delete me again.. why not do a little reading on what I've tabled here?
Well done once again Mastemilo! I love to watch you work. Dont you need some better tires? Like serious profile tires? I love to see you make your own creations, but I would also love to see you make an existing thing better. Better then new... whatever it is.
Hatseflats kerel!
