Best Home made incubator I've seen yet!! I made one on a lot smaller scale, didn't know about the air circulation, so my hatching rate was low. This is one cool incubator!!!!

Doing a good job but may I make a suggestion; First thinking ahead to cleaning and sterilizing because they will get nasty ,so maybe painting the inside of the box to give it a cleanable surface. and the for the ones I have made using light bulbs.I found it better to place two bulbs at lower watts than to go one bulb at the higher wattage.So if in the middle of the night if a bulb burns out the other bulb will still hold the temp. But it is very nice of you to take the time to be helping out the newbies.

Thanks you! I built and incubator when my kids were little..out of ply wood, chicken wire and old window and the lights like I have in this one..worked great..my greatest joy was wking my 9 and 4 year olds up at 5 am to watch a chick hatch. I like this design though..it is reusable..I will be making the eggs turner on the weekend!

If you are up for fun, you can buy a pid ( temp and humidity).. a pid turns on the heat lamp and maintains the box temp to whatever you set it to. But it can also turn on a fan for humidity control. I use a 12v pib as I am off grid and on solar. 👍🏻

I would suggest taking a sharpie and marking a line in the middle of the switch on your dimmer switch and then on the actual little box of the dimmer exactly where you get 99.5 or whatever its supposed to be that way you know, you could even mark it in different color for different wattage bulbs.

Secure the wires a few inches from where they attach to the light socket. Just tie them down or secure them to the fixture so you won't be pulling on the electrical connections if you pull on the cord. This is called "cord relief" and it's required in the National Electrical Code (NEC by the NFPA) book because if you are putting mechanical stress on the electrical connection it can lead to a poor connection = fire hazard. Of course there are lots of other codes (such and such enclosures, etc..) but I think the cord relief is the most important improvement you can make.

Also, for anyone that might have a question about computer/pc fans. They can come in different watts. You can have a 6 watt or a 12 watt fan. I do not recommend using anything higher than a 12 watt though. You can find these at thrift stores in old pc towers, but it might be a bit costly. I would ask friends, family, or good neighbors if they have any old computers that are broken so that you can scavenge the fans from them. You might even get lucky and find one that has more than one fan in it. A local pc repair shop might have extras they are willing to part with as well. I might even have a few that I would barter/trade/ sell if anyone is interested. Doesn't hurt to ask or help!

Most dc computer fans are 12 volts and cell adaptors are 5 how did the fan work for you??? Id think it would run REALLY slow. Also computer fans usually have a direction arrow on the casing somewhere😀 Thanks for the idea!!!!
@denstump4590
@denstump4590 6 лет назад
It should run about half speed using small 12v fan at 5-6v, you just need a little air movement in there moving heat around, not allot of air blowing hard/fast like when cooling a computer. Fan should be inside the box moving that air, not like shown! Everytime outside air temp changes so will the inside temp setup like that.
