In this video I show how to build and use a jig that lets you cut out stair treads and risers with perfection. If you would like to order an improved and re-designed version of this jig then visit the link below or send me an email.
The jig I sell now is different than this one but is a much improved version with a better design and made of virtually indestructible high density plastic.. As always, thanks for your support.

After watching I made my own jig. Had some wing nuts in my stash and ply wood scraps, so it cost virtually nothing. I am remodelling our house in Hickman, Tn. Just mounted the newell posts yesterday for railing of the loft/bonus room. I have mounted the risers but not the treads. Want to save some wear and tear on the new finish while work on the railing etc. You videos have given me loads of help. I was an auto mech. by trade so used to working with tools, but this construction stuff is a whole different ball game. Kind of stretches my tiny little brain. Thanks for the help and entertainment.

Thanks for watching Jeremy. I really appreciate it. Your question is one of those where you might be reading into it a little too much. When I tell you the real reason I cut mine that way you are gonna be disappointed. :-) Ok, here goes, I planed my treads and my planer was acting up so it sniped the ends of the treads. I didn't want that part to show so I centered my cuts in a way that both of those bad ends would be cut off. Simple as that. Ha! If that were not the case I would have done exactly what you are wanting to do and save all that precious hardwood for another project!
@jodyrolandconstruction6577
@jodyrolandconstruction6577 7 лет назад
blazingnailgun. I'm sure you know this but if you feed your boards at an angle it greatly reduces snipe on the ends. Great build by the way.

I noticed you used sub treads and sub risers in your stairs. I wish more builders would plan them into their stairways. Makes the stairs usable throughout the construction process and really strong with no give what so ever. Great job

tried to make your jig myself. I don't own a table router. I bought a handheld one for like $89 from home depot. I couldn't get it to route straight I even tried to make a jig but id have it tilted up or down some. I see jigs online for $80. cheapest most are closer to $189.00 so I just ordered yours for $75. Good deal because that includes shipping. I've wanted one of these for years will be happy to own one. I am a floor guy but I do mostly tile so I have only done maybe 3 sets of hardwood stairs in 15 years and I just kept re cutting and re adjusting my saw angle for stairs this jig will pay for its self in 1 job in time saved. Thank you for making my work easier.

I just ran into your work with the FWW miter saw table, and bet you wish you had that as you built this jig. I have an unfinished 2nd story with a VERY rough staircase, and was puzzling over how to do measure the treads and finish it up. You solved that for me. Now, if I can just find the time to get around to that project along with the 183 other projects I have to set up a woodshop in my basement and go to town on working on this 100 year old house with a remodel 60 years ago! I love your attitude, and your attention to detail as you explain your work, and I look forward to building this and other projects after my gardening season here in South Bend, IN.

I built your jig about a month ago with the intent of "Uncarpeting" construction grade interior stairs. Just finished the risers today and thanks to your jig I put out 13 perfect risers on all 13 steps. Couldn't be easier. I am looking forward to cutting and installing the oak treads this week. Thanks for the awesome video and the great jig!!!
