Thanks! I've always saved scrap wood as a "just in case" and I built these shelves in early 2020 before things went crazy, including lumber prices. Here, over two years later, I'm saving every scrap I can to reuse, and start with my scrap pile before i even think about heading to the store.
I chose the wrong major, I should have majored in carpentry because you made it look really fun. I feel like a child at a toy store wanting to play with everything.😃
I definitely have fun with this stuff, and I'm completely self-taught! Just start small and get comfortable with the process, and you'd be amazed at what you can create. Thanks for following along! Feel free to reach out with any questions.
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors just starting woodworking myself. Always loved woodworking from shop class in high school, now being 32 with a career in Networking, feel like it's a good time to start it as a hobby!
Thanks for watching! I always do better with miters when I can visualize them as I cut. I don't mind moving the saw back and forth, plus it makes for interesting cuts on camera! 😀
This might be a daft question, but why don’t you need to use wall plugs when you’re fixing the frame to the wall? Would adding plugs provide better strength and weight capacity to the shelves?
@@TheGoodeLifeOutdoors that makes sense. Wood screws into the wooden studs sounds robust. I’m glad I asked because otherwise I would have questioned myself every time I used a wall plug in the future. Thanks for the reply
Like this idea, i have a lot of scrap 2x4 and some left over OSB that i can use for the top, I'll definitely be making these for my garage. What height is the lower shelf?
The bottom shelf is 37" and level with an adjacent workbench in case I need to work on long material. The top shelf is 60.5" which is what cleared the compressor beneath it.

I like overkill! I'd rather overbuild something than underbuild. I agree, you could make them without pocket holes, however, I like the finish and strength, as well as the relatively square result from using pocket screws. Thanks for watching!
Not really. In this case, they were built out of spare wood, specifically for items I needed shelves for. If I has to nit-pick, I may have pre-drilled the shelf top planks a bit further from the edge to avoid cracking later down the line. Thanks for watching!
