it is our responsibility to find ways to save our planet. Mechanical Concrete method uses old t tyres to build roads I decided to try this method in PNG building a 300 meters road in my property up to my Bar the famous Red Rock bar in Port Moresby hopefully I can inspire others in my county to recycle old tyres.

One thing I noticed is that the gravel wasn't filled in over the tires. If done properly as the original engineer who invented mechanical concrete specified, the quality overall will be higher, and there will be less mini pockets of potholes. Fill in the gravel fill above the tires and get a road compacter to tap down the grade and you may not even need concrete overall

It seems to me, you've misunderstood the idea. behind the Machanical Concrete. The idea of a building material called "concrete" is to be a composite material consisting of a filling agent, bonding agent an some reinforcement. In a traditional concrete - let's call it Chemical Concrete - gravel and/or sand takes the role of a filling agent, portlandcement + water takes a role of a bonding agent ("glues" the particles of gravel and/or sand together), and the rebar / steel mesh takes a role of a reinforcement, which takes tensile stress off the mortar (filler + bonding agent = mortar. After setting it is good in compression, but weak in tension). In Mechanical Concrete you take TDCs (Tyre Derived Cylinders - used car tires with the sidewalls cut off) which can hold high loads in tension (forces, trying to tear apart the cylinder from the conter to outside), tie together forming a geo-mesh, so they do not slide away from each other while filling with the gravel, and fill them with AASHTO #57 Stone (self-compacting aggregate blend of size 5, 6, & 7 stone) gravel. Not with large peaces of stone, but with crushed, fractionated stone! It self-compacts, so no need to use any machinery to compact it. So the TDC acts as a mechanical bonding agent (mechanically, not chemically keeps the gravel together, and the gravel acts as a filler. TDC also acts like the reinforcemet, because the steel inside the tyre threads takes all the tensile stress and does not allow the gravel stones to move. And that's it! No mortar / cement / concrete / rebar mesh needed. The mechanical properties of tyre thred cylinders and crushed stone particles makes the "concrete" out of itself.

Nicely done steve. But safety equipment wears for employees must be taken into consideration. Successful business also comes with occupational health and safety measures. Thanks

Yes. The men need boots, gloves, and hard hats. It's the moral thing to do for the hard work they do.

should the workers not speak for themselves? or rather the manager can ask them personally if they need anything, i just don't see any danger but what may be helpful is mud boots not necessary but helpful ;;;;;;;;;'''''''''''''''''''''''' 2 Esdras 2: 31 -100 ;;;;;;;;;;;;;''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

Just an observation and advise. Noticed the mesh wire is placed on the tires. You must allow for additional thickness to the concrete as the mesh will be sticking out after heavy usage of the road. Mesh will help with additional strength to the concrete and prevent cracks in future And try backfilling with just aggregates (20mm +) and compact. It might be cost saving than concrete.

We only spend US$300 per 100-meter length of road using the Mechanical Concrete (geo-grid containment) system inside our avocado farm.

You should probably add structural fiber to the cement mix. The way you did it might be very prone to cracks.

Would it be strong enough if you sliced the tires to half width? It would take less rocks and less work, and not be so tall.
@Principe6900

Interesting! Two questions, first, why do you cut both sides off the tire, i.e. can't you leave the bottom-side on? This would form more of a "pot" and less of a ring. I would imagine it helps the gravel stay "level", not disappearing in the softer soil below, no?! Second, if you tie the tires together, would this improve the strength?

Did you ever get a answer about if its okay to cut one side of tire or both? I was thinking the same thing and some videos i have seen they do leave one side on tire and place it on bottom.

Why even use concrete? All you need is smaller gravel on top and then compact it and it's not going anywhere

Are your workers bare foot during this cement poor? My friend I hope your crew has something to act as a barrier that I just didn’t see. Rubber boots are common for this. I know a good man that suffers ongoing medical conditions from exposure to lye during a cement poor. His leather work boots were insufficient and then removed them to press on and finish the work.
