I own a Canon SL2 DSLR, and the EOS Utility application enables me to use it as a webcam. Previously, EOS Utility was used mostly to update firmware, create custom settings, etc., but once COVID hit, Canon enhanced the application to allow for webcam use. Despite that, I still use my Logitech 920 since it can perch right on top of my monitor.

Great video. So many can benefit from this--especially as many top-tier professionals have moved to work-from-home arrangements through the end of the year. I think it would be great if you'd add to this series, going into detail for the beginners on lighting for these video setups as well. Whether it's finding a window and using that light correctly, to artificial lighting setups for varying budgets, something like this would be a great complement for this video! Thanks again!

Great video! I'm in the process of upgrading to a mirrorless camera setup, using a Canon M50 Mark II. One challenge I've experienced with the Canon EOS Webcam Utility software, is that there is a lot of latency. The video using this utility and the audio from my USB mic (Shure MV7) are way out of sync. There are some work arounds and fixes in OBS, etc. and I don't know if this issue is ubiquitous, but it's something to keep in mind for anyone who intends to use the Canon webcam application. From what I've read and seen in reviews, the Elgato Cam Link has minimal latency, so I've ordered one to see how it works out.

If I had to take a guess he is using a boom mic. It could cost a little as Rode camera boom mic for between $150.00 -$275.00 dollars up to a Sennheiser 416 boom mic for a $1,000 dollars. Update: I was right. He is using a Sennheiser 416. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jFHQkg9I5dQ.html I didn’t want to spend the bread but I might have trade up from my RE27E mic. That Sennheiser is a go to for a lot of creators, they last forever and are can be used in doors or outdoors. Well see

Great information. Could you please clear my doubt, that is what kind of speakers should you use to listen to the other participants properly in a zoom meeting. And how to avoid feedback/interference of the speakers audio into your microphone. I mean how to avoid your microphone catching the speaker audio output.
@FranklinReid_
@FranklinReid_ 2 года назад
Great question, this is something I will cover in part 2 but honestly, speakers don't matter much, it's more about the volume and the type of microphone you use, if you use a dynamic microphone it won't pick up much on feedback.
@lastmastadon
@lastmastadon 3 года назад
Thanks for the great video. I do have one question, however. Don't we also need a speaker solution to complete a video conference setup? What speakers do you recommend and how do we integrate them with the microphone setup so as not to cause echo during conference calls? Thank you!
@FranklinReid_
@FranklinReid_ 3 года назад
Hey thanks for your comment this is a great point that no one has brought up and I didnt even think about. So technically speakers would not be good, headphones would be the prefered solution since you dont have to worry about feedback. But if you must use speakers any pair USB or 3.5 would work find just keep the volume low as thats how you avoid sound feedback
@tolgabasoglu8985
@tolgabasoglu8985 3 года назад
@@FranklinReid_ Hey Franklin, thank you for the video. I'm also curious about which type of speakers should I buy for this setup? I want a studio monitor so I can also use it for video editing but to be honest, my main goal is Zoom calls. Would you suggest a studio monitor, bookshelf speaker or a computer speaker to get clear human voice from other attendees? Thank you in advance.
@FranklinReid_
@FranklinReid_ 3 года назад
Hey @Tolga, so ur speaker selection does not really matter but my recommendation would be to get some good monitors, alternatively you can get some ok desktop speakers and pair them with good studio headphones for when ur editing. I always edit with headphones as it gives me more accurate audio editing fidelity.

@@FranklinReid_ Glad to hear, since the lightning did more to the overall change in quality than anything else.

Great video. I do however think you missed a huge point. Maybe the biggest. Lighting. A good lighting setup can maken an OK webcam look good. Or make a high quality dslr image look terrible if done wrong. Lighting the subject and thinking about the background is a huge factor for a quality production.

But the sound you transitioned into at 1:09 was not achieved with that Shure mic :/

Hey Franklin, amazing video thanks for sharing. I have two questions though, I was looking into Roden Procaster and similar mics but you always have to be super near to them. In your examples your mic is seen but in your normal explanation mode it's not. I would prefer not showing my mic. And the second question is on other people talking during a zoom call (through loudspeakers)... won't the mic pic it up?

Hey Thomas, yes that can be an issue specially with a mic like the procaster, theres not much you can do about it, the SM7B has a bit more range, if you want something out of camera tho u might consider looking at a shotgun Mic they have much more range. As to your second question as long as you are running through the same interface it should be able to reject the audio loop just dont blast the audio and zoom does a great job.
