Good quality shoes are so important! After working on my feet, healthcare, for years I decided to not wear cheap shoes anymore. It has made a big difference on my feet.
Good shoes are so important especially if you are on your feet everyday. When I was younger I could wear cheaper shoes ( that’s probably why I have a bunion ). But as I got older I knew I needed better shoes. It’s makes all the difference for you feet, legs and your back.
When I was a kid, my dad would give me a couple of dollars to shine his shoes. I loved collecting everyone's shoes in the house and polishing them. To this day I like to keep my shoes polished. It's a special memory of my dad too!
Naturalizer makes some really good shoes and very comfortable. Cole Haan is another, those are just 2 I can think of that I have worn, but there are many more.
Naturalizer is plastic. I look for shoes in real leather. The shoes I bought from Naturalizer are not only plastic, but tighter than other brands, and they won't stretch.
I also have sweets memories of watching my father regularly polish his shoes and put wooden shoe trees in them. I haven't thought of that in ages. Thank you for bringing up that memory. My husband also polishes his shoes, although not as regularly as my father. I have my own shoe cleaners and polishers, but sometimes, I like to borrow my husband's big shoe brushes after a day outside and my shoes need a good brushing off. It is so important to spray your shoes and boots with protector when you first get them. I try not to wear my good shoes in the New England weather too often, but my Chelsea boots do take a beating up here. I really try to take care of them if and when I am caught in rain and sleet. I purchased mine from Nordstrom and they have lasted a very long time in our harsh winters. I also have a cobbler that I love and use often. He just put new heel tops on a pair of very old Talbots flats, and he polished them too. They are ready to go for another 15 years. I also put thick magazines in my boots, so they stand up straight. I keep most shoes/boots in a closet, the ones I don't put in a closet are in a spare room either in their original boxes or have a towel over them to keep them dust free and away from the sunlight. It is embarrassing how many pairs I own. But I do weed out and donate regularly. I have a pair of Ferragamo's that are at least 30 years old and still look great and fit perfectly.
This is a bit random, but I had not seen/heard of Ferragamo for years, until last week when a friend gave me a pure silk scarf of her late stepmother's. I am not a scarf person, but the scarf was exquisite - the colours, the design.... I draped it over my shoulders, and then saw 'Salvatore Ferragamo' in the corner. Needless to say, I am now a scarf addict!
@@marlettevandermerwe7138 Yes, the company is still around. I walk pass their store at the mall all the time. I started thinking about what I wrote, and I believe those green Talbots shoes are older than the Ferragamo's. Take care of your shoes, it pays off. I am retired now so can't afford Ferragamo anymore, but I would love a scarf. You are very lucky to have one. Nice friend.
@@anitaclemens2609 Ferragamo never went anywhere, but thanks to the tech boys, the brand is listed in the Ss, not the Fs. (that is a pet peeve of this older women). I'm 80 and have several shoes that I've had for years.. I do want to find some ballet flats!... I hadn't thought of the fragrance , White Shoulders , in years. Will search for that.. My only caution is that I've learned the hard way that some of the established perfumers, like Guerlain, Chanel & others change the recipe to update the fragrance. So you may want to purchase a sample or at least ask the seller if it's the original formula or a modern version.

I'm in my seventies and I remember friends in the late 1960 who loved Joy! I haven't thought about that in years! I couldn't wear it because many perfumes give me headaches, so my choice was Chanel #5. I still love #5, but also wear Donna Karan Cashmere Mist. (It's soft and lovely). Those two do not set off my headaches and luckily I love them both!!! Thankyou for all your great tips and advice!😊

My mum always used to laugh at me in my heels saying “ enjoy them while you can , there will come a day you can’t wear them anymore “ Me being young and sassy said “ I’ll always wear them “ Well …… she was right 😂😂😂 now ( at 60 ) good quality, stylish, comfortable shoes are key . Beautifully made , and elegant. My grandmother used to say “ look after your feet , they will take you everywhere you want to go “ and if that’s not the truth , I don’t know what is ☺️☺️☺️
Gosh, deja vu! In college into my 30s wore platforms or high heels (I'm a tad over 5'!) My mom (4'11) said the same thing and I knew it was true. She had a pair of black velvet shoes with silver embroidery that she would wear which had a rounded toe and a Cuban heel 1.5 inches high that were for dancing. I loved those shoes, but she wore 4.5's wide. I cried when my feet grew too big! Someone needs to bring back that heel...
I truly love shoes -- aside from bags & belts -- and I only wear designer shoes. Yes, they cost a fortune, but there are sales. I am really surprised that you don't mention the easiest way to preserve & to keep leather shoes for a long time. I'm talking about having a really good shoemaker put rubber soles on expensive shoes like Celine, Gianvito Rossi, Robert Clergerie, etc. I have a 6-year old pair of Chanel spats -- very rare style purchased for 1/2 price, yet still expensive, which came with a rubber sole from the manufacturer -- very rare & unusual, but saved me money. My footwear is an investment because I walk everywhere in NYC in heels -- it's good exercise & I always have to be dressed up for various occasions. Beth, I think your shoe recommendations are great, especially their care & preservation.
My criteria for shoes are that they must be: 1. all-genuine leather with rubber, not plastic outsoles (I nearly got killed in a pair with plastic soles I bought accidentally); 2. very comfortable; 3. very well-made; 4. a modern, but classic enough style to last for decades. If they can meet these criteria, I’m always happy to save money, but am generally going to have to spend a lot more. I have a dismally high failure rate with shoes, less than half, maybe only one-third, work out in terms of comfort after careful try-ons, so I have to be very selective. I like mid-height block heels, Sezane’s Paula Babies are great and fairly priced (currently $215 US), for the good quality and comfort they offer (size up a half-size, especially for wider toes). I wish they had a same-height, closed-heel version for autumn/winter, they do, sort-of, but the heels are a lot higher. Boots are easier, I size up 1&1/2 sizes; the more bare the shoe, the less one can size up, something has to hold them on.

I get my favorite footwear on sale, and I use discount codes, and and don't pay shipping. I register with my favorite brands to get birthday discounts and holiday sale discounts. I rarely pay regular price for anything. That is how I could afford quality items. And, may I say you always look stunning. @@BethDjalali I always give importance to shoes... Especially since I wear them for more than 10 hours per day.. I prefer quality and leather shoes. I buy for the comfort of the feet and YES they have to be nice too... A quality shoe and with a good cut shoe you can always enjoy them, if you know how to keep them... Kiss🌹💖
Why can our favorite fragrance not be "clean" from frequent showers with soap and water and not wearing perfume. Some of those fragrances that so many love can be deadly to an asthmatic.
