It's been a bit of a process to get this unit under way but we finally got somewhere. In this video we are unboxing all of the acdeclo parts. We upgraded from the first design 6L80 stator support and separator plate and input drum. The master kit we bought from Alan Humphreys at transtar industries. The end clearance and total endplay were adjusted using superior shims.
This transmission is going in a 2007 Cadillac escalade 6.2ltr engine with awd. Knowing the integrity of the transmission we made several updates and upgrades to this unit. In the coming videos we will be working on the valve body and final case assembly. Thank you for watching.

You are a great mechanic, used to rebuild 730. 731 Allison transmissions for the bus company in Saint Louis, also built Detroit engine’s. I worked in several other departments over my 26 years there. The last 13 years as a supervisor. Also built E4od ,4r100, c6 and differentials. Am 72 years old now and as I stated before, I love your videos. I know a good mechanic when I see them. You are very good. Productive also. I give you 5. Stars. Your new friend from Missouri!!!

That bad boy is mine. Christmas in august! Removed my old transmission. Came to find out that it had at most 2qts of trans fluid in her. I honestly dont even know how that happen. I checked and rechecked my trans fluid so many times at idle and it always read on point. Took it to 2 shops and they told me the same thing. No visible leaks or nothing. Trans didnt even smell bad. SUCKS!! But with all this i came across david and thanks to him i should have this escalade running by later this week. Im still impressed with this guy. Been there answering all my questions till today. Great guy to do bussiness with.

Thanks David for sharing your knowledge. I haven't been able to find the OA endplay specs for the 6L80/90 anywhere. It's absent from the ATSG manual. I'm pretty sure that Sonnax makes a selective pump thrust washer to take up play between pump & 3-5/R.

Thanks for taking the time capture your knowledge/expertise on video to share! Rebuilding my 6L80 in a 2014 Silverado, failed torque converter at 120k miles. Utilizing the upgraded Sonnax/Transgo components you recommend. Preferred to have my reputable local shop do the repair but their backlog was ~6 weeks to get to it. Videos like yours and an ATSG manual allowed me to tackle the project myself.

Great videos. I like the way you assemble everything clean. And I like the fact that you like to replace parts with new parts. You have mentioned measuring the clearance between a new pump and rotor with a feeler gauge, but I haven't heard you say what the clearance should be? And how do you adjust it if it's not within specs. Can you tell me what the procedure and specs are and how to adjust it. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.

Thanks for the videos David, very helpful, I am in the process of putting my 6L80 back together and the large snap ring that holds the center support won’t go back in, the clearance is slightly too small, I can get it in but it won’t go in all the way, makes the shaft really hard to turn because of the tightness. Any suggestions, I have triple checked all the bearings and bushings.

It is tapered, was it going in upside down? I know a guy who put the center support tapered ring in a 400 backwards (taper the wrong way) and it sheared the lugs rite off the case when it shifted.

Way cool, thanks for taking the time to contribute to the success of others. I am getting ready to do my first 6L90 trans rebuild, so just taking it all in so far. I have 2 questions on your work (questions, not digs, for my learning): 1. I see you did not use a pump alignment tool when bolting the stator to the bellhousing. I was just going to use a really large hose clamp. Maybe one can just eyeball or feel it after you have done 100 like you have? 2. It looks like you are assembling clutch plates without soaking them first. I heard you don't need clutch spring compressors if you do this. True? OK, one more: If I already have the large snap ring pliers for the center support, would I need any others in order to rebuild a 6L80/90? Think I could use a PVC coupler and C clamp to compress clutches and pistons instead of the correct screw clamp that you had? Thanks a bunch again. Really appreciate it.
@expressautotransmissiondav4207
I would recommend buying a spring compressor for sure also I believe in dry building personally and the pistons have to come out everytime no matter what..also I don't use the alignment tool because I use a straight edge around the casting for alignment. Good luck on your first build remember patience and breathing are a key element to rebuilding a transmission correctly if you feel overwhelmed or have an issue feel free to reach out there's nothing wrong with asking questions

Please recommend a rebuild kit for 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 6L80E transmission. GM dealership told me 8K for a reman. I feel as though dealership is throwing me a line of BS. They stated " found transmission pan full of metal from oil pump scoring torque converter housing and pump cover restricting fluid filter and causing a neutral condition." doesn't make sense because the pan has never been removed. I'm in a 2012 Silverado, 5.3l. 138k miles. It was amazing to me just how fast the symptoms appeared compared to a Ford I once owned. Within one week, it went from driving along some mountain roads smooth as silk. Then, on the next hill, it started what I thought was an engine miss. Then, on cold weather mornings the last few days, and I hear a scraping sound upon start, with very significant slipping while driving. Putting it in trailer/tow mode nearly eliminates the slipping. I did get the fluid flushed and changed yesterday. It did improve, but still there. It was almost a clear red, but with a head scratch, the technician said it could probably use a change. Question is this: are there cost options on the repair, as in just a torque converter, or is the cost on removal, tear down and reinstall enough to just warrant a full rebuild?
@expressautotransmissiondav4207
@expressautotransmissiondav4207 2 года назад
I would not only do a converter it needs other things updated and repaired. Rebuild is your best direction in my opinion.

I have a 2018 Yukon with a 6L80 and 142k miles. Still drives great. Should I spend the money to get the torque converter replaced now? I hear the transmission is reliable as long as the TC doesn’t destroy itself so my thought is that by changing the TC before it dies that I can get many more years and miles or off the transmission.
