This is Part 3 of my Walnut Boxes series where I install the wood hinges and start putting some of the finishing touches on the inside of the boxes. Enjoy!

Standard Disclaimer: Putting your soft, squishy fingers near powerful sharp spinning things is dangerous. I've been doing this for a while and I know what I'm doing but even I'm not invincible. I take a lot of safety precautions based on my level of experience and not all of them are shown on camera. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. If it makes you nervous you're probably doing it wrong. Don't do anything stupid. Reapply sunscreen often and floss before bed. Is anyone actually still reading this?

I'm having a great time checking out these tools, kind of drooling. I'm building boxes this year for christmas gifts. 1.5 completed so far. Each slightly different from the other; mostly the lids. I've got a table saw, a chop saw, a router table, a wood workers bench, on wheels, palm Sanders and a belt sander. Oh yes a drill press , with sanding drums. I'm turning out some beautiful boxes, but I'm not quite ready for wooden hinges. That was cool, watching you make those. Hey, your camera person is good. Your music is great. No stress here. Great work, got some tricks here. Thank you, couple ideas, thank you. Interesting though my boxes are not much different, insides are lined in a contrasting color, I have gone with inlays (look) on the exteriors; beveled lids. I sure enjoy making them. It would be so much quicker, and so much more precise with this kind of equipment. Sigh. A big belt sander. A planer, a joiner. I'm just making a few gifts. I build and refurbish hot-tubs. That's my gig. Great videos. I'm digging it.

This is the bar that other YT’ers need to hit to be in the game. No corny or janky jokes or self flatulation, just plain woodcraft mastery. I wonder why he didnt make the sides from 8/4 so he could have used s specialty jig that prompted us all to go out and buy. This young man and his skill and artistry is a force to reckon with on YT. My hat is off to your sheer talent and craftsmanship for museum quality work.

Great job, really nice project,well done,there will be a few of these produced in the future. My brain was getting a little stale for ideas. Thanks Blake, also your attention to detail on the audio and video is excellent. The realization that building is on thing, then the video and audio are another set of challenges. Really enjoy your productions.

Hi there! Great project! I should show my woodworking more often but it takes sooooo much time. Great work on that part! But I must confess that I am unsure about the hinges. They are per se great, but I don't really like that they break the flow of the wood grain on the back. Thinking about that... would you think that integrated hinges like a finger joint would work? Regards, Etna.
@weberwoodshop
@weberwoodshop 5 лет назад
Not in this case because the grain is running the wrong way and they would break.

Hello Blake, Thank you for sharing your work with us. The attention to detail and the video quality and editing make your videos an absolute joy to watch. The pace is so tranquil and relaxing that I could watch them all day. I had a question for you. I cannot justify the expense for a Tormek at this juncture and was curious to know your thoughts on the Work Sharp unit you have and use? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks again for your work. Mike

Mike Hancock Thanks a lot! I love the WorkSharp. I’ve never used the Tormek but I’m sure it’s amazing. The WS is quick and easy to use especially to do touch up between working.
