Floating island and cities and castles are well known in the fantasy world. And this is a fantasy game... so nothing wrong with a floating mini castle.
Except they aren't in a purely magical world there is still physics and they didn't intend for you to build without support it's merely a feature they haven't finely tuned yet like in grounded.
@@CautiousPancakeThere's stability in 7 Days to Die, which can be fun when you toss TNT about. Sometimes you find a nice location, but the building already in place may not be quite what you prefer, so the quickest way to break it down is blowing up a few supporting walls and beams. I like that. On the other hand, as noted above, this is a fantasy world. Perhaps a compromise in the form of floating rocks would be an idea. You want toppling buildings, you build normally. You want magical floating castles, you make special materials, perhaps at an enchanter or something. Then again, if the engine doesn't have stability at this point, I'm not sure it would be very easy for the developers to add it in. It sort of has to be built from the ground up for it. It's a whole different beast than the way destruction has worked so far in Enshrouded, unfortunately.
@@unspeakableoaf Yeah, I can't see it (from what I've seen so far) supporting a collapse - explosions are nicely done, but given how digging and everything works, I just can see it - but I'm just some noob playing games :D Either way, no stability works for me in Enshrouded just like how stability in 7 Days works there (mostly :D)
Enshrouded does some unique things that are not very common, if at all. There is no scaling and you can equip gear above your level, and of course the lack of required stability when building. I hope they never change it, it's a welcome addition to survival games.
I hadn't thought about the lack of scaling but I know when I hit it and got my butt wiped. And I love that! I like the shroud difficulty possible being set through base upgrades, it's a nice way to also give a bit of warning that the area is not for you yet 😃
I agree a huge tower build would be awesome (and I bet some have done it already) and having it start high up already just makes the glide options better, as long as you have the stamina! 😃
Yeah, that was the trick for this-- although you don't need to either. I cut it from the vid as it wasn't the point, but you can also do it with just one altar - when you extinguish the flame you can (in the 30 seconds) run to the other end of the sky bridge and place another down before the other once disappears. Just don't take too long :D
@@CautiousPancake No need to rush. It takes a bit before fundations dissapear :) You could use the crossings of FlameAltar if you wanna build Big. Cross the Building-Zones and build your Storage in the Middle.
@@Schalalai for sure - I did the build initially with a single altar, but figured this approach is safer :) Do you know if magic chests work across building zones when they are linked?
@@CautiousPancake Yes they are connected when the Chest is in the Crossing Zone. I´m on it to build a Big Base and have 2x max Altar (160x160) connected.
You honestly inspired be to think BEYOND what any other survival game let me build in. No stability, free floating placements, and the freedom 1x1 block gives. I’m so excited to see what my mind can conjure up
First off, great tutorial! Really wanted to play around with a floating wizard tower. Second off, "use the hammer on the like button" caught me so off guard you earned a like there as well 😂
Top job, sir. As for stability I think the devs want to allow whatever your mind finds reasonable. i mean you even added a magical note under the base to explain it floating. It is not like base attacks are a thing anyway so I don't see any advantage but it just makes home feel safer to be out of reach.
I like the Minecraft meets Valheim vibe where the building and general gameplay is quite casual but surprisingly deep in term of what's possible. I'd love the addition of some more mechanical components even if we wouldn't get outright turing complete possibilities for making machines and automating stuff. So there being no stability mechanic feels fine to me as it allows us so much freedom in building. If it was more restrictive, we'd really feel it as the block palette is still quite small due to the game being in early access (though there's more than I'd have imagined for an early access title already)
I honestly love the fact that there is no stability metric in this survival game. It's fantasy, so the devs got it right to inspire the ultimate in creativity when it comes to base building. Having gotten through the core game so far, this is the satisfying portion of endgame for a lot of players!
That's great to hear - I'm still mid game (I think!) since most of my play time goes into making videos instead :D But I'm glad to hear that building post completion is still fun!
Crenellations is the word you're looking for. Also, rather than placing the terrain blocks one at a time, you can use a rake to move the ground around to form the base of the floating island (provided, of course, you managed to get one before the rake bug bit you).
Ah yes crenellations - I had in my head the crenels are the up bits and merlons or something the down - but that could be the wrong way around (or I could just be making that up, lol). The rake tip is great - I will try that out thanks!
I did this in a game just for grins and giggles. I built a ramp over a gorge that was enshrouded, from one peak to another peak on the opposite side. I wanted to see what the game physics deemed too long of a ramp without support. Apparently support isn't a thing in the game. It was so long it took 40 seconds of flat out running to get from one end to the other. But any part of the structure will disappear once you log out (I play on Steam) unless it's inside the area designated by the flame alters. Anyway, It never occurred to me to lay down a large foundation area and build a dwelling on it that would float. Very Cool.
I wanted to build a castle in the sky right in the center of the map (including the snow area) so that I can glide easily to each corner of the map (southwest, SE, NW, NE) when full release implemented. But, I already 80hr in gameplay and I'm a bit burn out, imagine grinding ton of materials. Most probably will build it before a week or two they announce full release 1.0. Currently, I enjoy watching player build creativity in youtube and screenshot posted in official discord.
Yeah, looking at the required mats for a bigger build scares me a little as a solo player 😳 but your castle in the middle sounds cool! What are you playing instead while you take a break from enshrouded?
Nice tutorial on the "Rake" (because I read the comment : ) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J446JjJYe2o.htmlsi=0YtBix6TCN6qj3M7 @@CautiousPancake
I've mentioned this idea to a couple of RU-vidrs, but you are the first I have seen actually do it. I am totally going to make a floating island base once I get the game. I am a bit of a cheapskate so I am waiting to see if they go to 20% off before I buy it, or if I get lucky and win a key. I definitely will get this game though.
That is SO cool. I wanted to do a floating castle with the onyl way in would be to grapple ;) And I did not know about the flat roof stuff. I like those.
I was going to also build a floating castle base but I intended to just fast travel to the flame alter at the base. Is there an advantage to having a base that required grappling?
Pancake, I love your floating build. Has anyone ever told you that you sound like one.wing, a really good Australian Ark builder? You have his patient detailed style of explaining your process.. keep up the great content.
Thanks so much, and I've had people mention that I sounded like another youtuber, but not who, so thanks for mentioning onewing - I'll go check him out!
It's very easy to build something like this yourself, you don't need a video. But I have to say it's still a good video from you and everything is well explained
Looks amazing! I think this feels very much in world and i hope they dont add stability or have floating land blocks if they do... Makes sense for buildings to come down in 7Days, but here i want my magic flame citadels to be floating. Super cool!
If they do add in a stability system. You may have accidentally stumbled upon some ridiculous cheese. As you could build what amounts to a meteor. Above any outside boss. And then install the patch that adds stability to building. To instantly kill any bosses the meteor's are floating above. As they come crashing down on the boss.
An alternative to using the luminescent blocks under the platform could be to use the normal luminescent growth terrain material. It'll look like the material you farm and it blends in a lot better with the stone-y underside in my opinion!
This is almost _exactly_ what I want to do with my base. I want my main structure to be near the geographic center of the map, up in the clouds. A floating archipelago for my people, as far away from the shroud as physically possible.
@@badjer4328 You can't build on top of the Pillars of Creation, you can however use the other side with the red gaping hole in the middle. If I remember correctly that's where the Strange Structure is, I might be wrong about the name tho. I tried and currently am building my base up high, great for getting around the map.
I kind of like the freedom of no stability. Gives me a chance to try and figure out a way to make something like a tree house without the worry of destruction. Already worry enough about another game that restricts the building area to a circle and having bits of my base periodically fall apart because they are just outside the circle.
Yeah, that always my pet peeve with stability, when you can't tell if it will work or not when you place something. As long as it tells you before hand that's ok, and as long as it makes sense for the game!
This game looks impressive so far from the videos you've done. I've not yet played it, mostly cos my PC won't handle it. But the castle is epic. Also, I think the word you're looking for is crenalations.
Thanks it certainly was an issue for the pc specs for me! And crenellations sounds good - I thought there were merlons in there too somehow (one is up and one is down)?
Man I iust love building in this game so much .. tbh i dont care abt stability its a fantasy coop game .. I'm not competing with anyone, just playing the game as I want it and im loving it
Challenge: Build a base in the sky. Add obstacles and sky blocks. Create dedicated server without a password. Watch people fail. Those who makes it gets a small treat. *Not everyone has inf flight builds*
Great idea! I personally prefer stability mechanics, Valheim really spoiled me there. I feels more rewarding and interesting to build that way. Even though I dont really like the enshrouded building system, it does offer some unique oportunities.
I really like the risk free part, so that failing to get something right doesn't waste a bunch of resources that you had to grind. But maybe that also takes some skill out? I'm still on the fence, need to try a bigger build when ive finished the main story
Boom first comment, not a game i ply but will look into it, i like the thought of the no stability but like the challenge of a build as well so I'm going got sit on the fence of this one, Love your vids buddy, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks! and the no stability is good, but it's very different on the base build side - more a base for fun and looks than anything else. Am enjoying the difference, but back to 7 days soon!
I don't mind it when it fits the game mechanics, where you need to be able to attack a support and bring down a defence, but for Enshrouded I don't think it's needed!
Nice, I'm still just playing mostly, but a big base is certainly going to take some effort, resources and time! Hope you find the motivation ok, or just relax with something else 😃
Love the build I'm going to make 1 myself. Did you know you can make terrian instead of just the small glowing blue boxes. It should make it look more like it was ripped out of the ground.
Love this idea and think I might have to build one in my game now! Is there a limit to the size you can build, and can you have the other characters up there with you such as the blacksmith and the hunter etc?
Other characters are no problem, and size is limited to the bounds of your altar, initially 40x40x40. That's upgradeable though or you can overlap multiple if you need to make it huge!
Keep up the great content. I think stable in some games shouldn't be a thing. I would love 7D2D not to have it but a mechanism that you need to have a way for Zs still to get you.
Without stability though you can't bring down a building, and the zombies can't undermine a tower and make you fall. So for 7 days it makes total sense, and for Enshrouded it's not based around building combat, so you're not expecting to bring down a building. So I agree it depends on the game!
@@CautiousPancake I know, wouldn't want a floating style base. They will still need a way and if not they could destabilise or destroy like they do, but I feel some of the stability is to much in 7d2d with the 7-11 block tree system. Like if you had 1 support and no access they would take that out and collapse it. But the base on that 1 support had no limits.
@@TagZ13I know what you mean - plus there's no benefit to doing a brace between a horizontal and vertical. Stability is a tricky thing to simplify so that it's "game" friendly, but at the same time giving enough realism that it's not completely weird.
Nothing cheaty about it, stability is not a feature of the game so this is good. If it is introduced at a later date, it will only mean you will change your methods which is your party piece anyway lol.
Thanks PJF, I think it will be hard to add stability, unless they've had it working but had to disable for early access launch. But I could be wrong, and then my castle will go squish 🤣
They'll patch the whole no ground to support your structures out shortly better enjoy it while you can like in grounded. Then people log on to see their entire base has fallen to the ground in a pile lol.
That's.... An interesting point 🤔 I mean it *has* food and water and shelter concepts, but they've gone the approach that is positive impacts only. That seems more common these days but it does feel more adventure than survival.
I got an idea but I will need help because it's a big plan and I'll need your help when I plan on playing but I'll need to do you on discord. This would take weeks lol
@@Mystical_Goddess ahhh - yes that's always an issue hey - at least without putting in lots of ugly support columns, and even then sometimes that doesn't help!
