In this video I start building a loco body in a large scale to fit on a Hornby 0-4-0 OO gauge chassis. I'm really enjoying exploring the flexibility and freelance nature of narrow gauge modelling. I hope you enjoy watching what I'm up to this time on New Model Barmy.

10 years ago I built a model of the Great Lacey Mine Railway in 1/35 scale using black Beetle chassis. The layout fits in a suitcase and has been displayed at the real railway in the Isle of Mann

If you want to get a large scale on OO gauge track I, I highly recommend you take a look at GN15. There is no defined scale but I model it at 1:19 scale

Sounds very interesting, I'll certainly check it out.

Yet another fantastic scratch built loco Jason! Nice. Geniuses are rarely tidy 🤭 The diesel shunter lends itself to this kind of construction doesn't it - due to it's boxy shape. I wonder if there are rectangular punches available for cab windows somewhere? 🤔. Sliced bread 😳. Witchcraft...

Thanks for posting the video. 1/35 narrow gauge shunting puzzle is my next planned project to combine my 1/35 military modelling endeavours (once I’ve finished my Gn15 ‘puzzle in a box’)

GN15 is probably the biggest you can go on OO track, Small brook studios produce conversion kits for horny 040 chassis , but really easy to make. There are length, width and height dimensions on the GN15 forums but generally driver figures would be about 100mm tall. There are som good GN15 videos on RU-vid.

Looking forward to seeing this project progress. If you want to go big on OO track have a look at the Tippy Ashwood channel.

I have also been working on 1:35 on OO 16.5 track. On my channel are a few videos of my brass scratch built loco. It is a 1:35 model of a Bradshaw FB2 warehouse truck that has been adapted to run on 2' narrow gauge in my layout. The wagons are still standard OO and will be rebuilt to 1:35 when I have time. The premise of my layout is that it is a 1/3 scale (7.25" gauge) garden railway for a 1:12 scale doll in a workshop, and 1:35 was close enough to 1:36 to make it work. My layout is also a dead rail set up with the loco being radio controlled. I should add that your layouts were part of the inspiration behind mine. Thank you.

I've just taken a look at your work Alfred, it looks excellent. Respect to you my friend working in brass, it frightens the living daylights out of me! I'm very glad my stuff has helped you with your own build. Thank you for watching the channel. Regards, Jason

@@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394 I have just uploaded a few more videos. I don't take very many, more in photos, so these are some old ones in no particular order. I hope you find them interesting. Cheers, Alfred.

Very cool, roll on part two!😊👍 BTW is that the version with the better motor (slower and smoother running)?🤔 As another poster writes, Gn15 type (estate railway gauges?) approach might be the way to go. Christopher Payne has done some nice - large scale - work based around 16.5 track. Without wishing to teach anyone to suck eggs, I quote:- "Gn15 is a rail modelling scale, using G scale 1:22.5 scale trains running on H0/00 gauge track, representing minimum gauge and miniature railways. Typical models built are between 1:20.3 and 1:24, or up to 1:29." Not quite 1:35, but I seem to recall a couple of railway articles (RM) using Britain's buildings etc, military modelling items and so on, therefore they must have been about 1:30/1:35 scale. I think that one was on 16.5 track, using Peco set track with sleepers removed and plastikard used to bolster the remaining sleepers to look like pressed steel sleepers🤔😊 The other used Peco's O-16.5 NG track🤔🤔 Enjoy!😊👍

Thanks for watching. It certainly seems to be a smooth quiet runner, I ran it in on the track under our Christmas Tree. I thought Santa’s Express could do with a breather!!

A very informative film. How did you make the roof for this loco and the O16.5 model? Looking forward to part 2.
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394 2 года назад
I used a couple of formers which were glued to thinner plasticard to create the curved roof. Check out the link for the O-16.5 build. Thanks for watching ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWZO-jtxu7I.html

I love what you built. Well done. I have one question however, and don't take this as critisism, is there a particular reason why you keep the original buffers and couplings in tact? Because narrow gauge, especialy smaller gauges, is mainly with one central buffer/coupling combination. Regards, Albert
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394 2 года назад
Thanks for watching Albert. I guess I just keep the standard couplers and buffers for simplicity sake………though buffer lock may become an issue on my latest tiny loop!!

Hi Adam, I've really only just started my Narrow Gauge journey so I've not explored all the scales and gauges yet but I'll take a look at H0F. Like all New Model Barmy projects it's got to be on the cheap as I'm as tight as they come when it comes to model making lol. Thanks for watching. Regards, Jason

Always enjoyable watching your videos and terrible jokes lol. However...you wanted to go as big as possible on 00 track, yet by working at 1:35 scale you have actually gone SMALLER than 0 16.5. Too much Xmas egg nog lol. As someone else has said, Gn15 would get you what's normally the largest kit in 00 gauge track. Cheers Gary
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394
@jasonpierce-newmodelbarmy3394 2 года назад
Thanks for watching Gary, O-16.5 I think equates to around 1:43 or 7mm to the foot. 1:35 I believe is around 9mm to the foot so it is actually a slightly larger scale. Gn15 does look interesting though. I think the loco in this video may well end up being pressed into service for beer delivery in the garden! I wonder how many cans of Abbot this little 0-4-0 would pull. Perhaps Sam's Trains might pick up that challenge! Regards, Jason

1/36 (imperial) gives an exact 1’11” and a bit using 16.5mm gauge track. Typical of your major preserved narrow gauge railways. If you want “BIG” build a WHR Garrett in 1/36 or 1/35 would be a little over scale.
