That really is special. You're right about the labels, it might take away from the beauty. Acrylic label maybe... Imagine 100 years from now someone showing off this exact chest and using this video for reference. Again, another awesome video. Cheers from Mississippi!
Such a beautiful job . Fill it when you figure out your system, maybe a number system with a book binder for reference. Have your father widdle out some numbers 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch or so . 🤪 great job Gregery
Great job! I love it. I agree with you about boxes and those open containers always getting dirty. Have you considered brass label holders? I think they would look great and you would be able to change out the labels and redo them if you changed things around with very little effort. You could use a label maker and stick that label on the paper/cardstock that slides in the brass holder.
@@thatwoodguy104 Yeah that's what I thought too. How's your hand by the way? I didn't see it wrapped up in the video. Was that older footage? Or are you back to normal all ready.
Did it really need a back considering that it goes against a wall? Did the drawers really need to be so strong given that they do not support anything other than their contents? The thickness of the wood in each drawer already eats into their potential volume and then you have the thickness of each separator to factor in making this far less dense than it could have been. Don’t get me wrong: It’s better than anything I could ever hope to make. It’s just that those things would bug me even more if I put in half as much effort as you did! Just constructive feedback.
So the whole piece is to contain smaller objects... screws/nuts/bolts/ even smaller tooling such as countersinks... center punches... collets.... guide bearings.... all of which add up in weight when your using it for a lifetime..... a back not only gave the cabinet strength and rigidity... it keeps the dust out which one of the points for the build... also what if the back is ever exposed someday? And it becomes visual then?... no back would look unfinished and actually improper... the drawers are built so strong in case the piece is ever used for more heavy small objects.... maybe carbide cutters?? Maybe tooling for the milling machine?? You never know the future in a shop... All smaller items of which don’t require that much more volume than sacrificing the strength on this kind of towering set of drawers.... Or even bolts and screws like I have in there currently do add up in weight when your storing thousands that creates sag if the drawers aren’t built strong enough to start.... then if the drawers aren’t resting on a solid cubby like the 1/2” dadoed grid I built... the whole purpose of strength is defeated when then whole cabinet sags because of so much weight in the drawers now pulling and resting on the remaining weak cabinet it’s not worth the extra 1 square foot I might add going down in thickness (hence why my sides of the cabinet are 3/4) maybe 1/2” sides for drawers and grid work is over kill however I would rather go through the effort of building it right the first time and having it last then having to revisit and the take even more effort later fixing it because it has issues.. Appreciate you checking it out tho 👍🏻
