Welcome to Hobby World - A place of imagination and creativity
In this video I’m 3D printing and building my very own T-800 terminator endoskeleton in full scale. This is properly the largest 3d printing project I have ever done so I’m really excited about how it’s going to turn out.
Due to the massive size of the project I have decided to make it as several episodes. In this episode I will focus on 3d printing and assembling the model.
As I have never done a project of this size there is a lot of stuff I need to figure out as I work with the build. This is also my first real project video here on RU-vid so I hope you all like it. And please don’t judge me too hard for all of the beginner’s mistakes :) I have learned a lot making this video, and I'm sure that the next one will be even better.

Thanks for watching

Thanks. You should check out episode 2 of my terminator build project. The airbrushing of the head is located around 17 min in the video. Episode 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ofArfjekBfo.html&ab_channel=HobbyWorld Personally I think this is the best part of the video, the black head just becomes really metallic, chrome like, as the layers are applied. It looks really great :) I'm adding episode 3 in the beginning of next week, there I'm painting all of the body in chrome, and adding glowing eyes to the skull. Once again thanks for the comment, it's really motivating reciving your feedback.

Wow, the result of your work so far is amazing. Looking forward to watching the smoothing and painting stage. One tip I have found on the internet is if you want a chrome finish, it is best to paint the model black prior to adding the chrome.
@HobbyWorld_one
@HobbyWorld_one 3 года назад
Hi Jeff and thanks for the comment. I uploaded episode 2 for this project a couple of weeks ago, in that video I smoothen the head, paint it black and then airbrush it with chrome. You are absolutely right about the black paint before using chrome. It is very importaint that you use a hi-gloss (reflective) black as the base layer to get the right finish. Personally I actually think that the timelaps in the "episode 2" video where I paint the head is the best part, it just shifts from black to a metallic look as the layers is applied :) The airbrushing of the head is located around 17 min in the video. Episode 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ofArfjekBfo.html&ab_channel=HobbyWorld Once again thanks for the comment, much appreciated :) I'm adding episode 3 in the beginning of next week, there I'm painting all of the body in chrome, and adding glowing eyes to the skull.

Tip, use methacrylate (aka superglue) and sodium bicarbonate, together they react chemically forming a hardened crust that can be sanded and is very hard, being able to join pieces in a perfect way for what you are doing.

The best glue for PLA is WELDON #16. It cost very little in a large tube. Set up super fast and melts the PLA parts together using a chemical action. All the glues you used are surface glues that only stick to the surfaces they do not melt the PLA parts together. I did a video on this long ago. Great looking project. Thank you for sharing with us.
@HobbyWorld_one
@HobbyWorld_one 3 года назад
Thank you for the comment, much appreciated, I will definitely check up on that for my next project :) I ended up PLA welding the entire model as none of the glues gave the strength I required. Unfortunatly this left an ugly assembly where the parts connected.
@Robothut
@Robothut 3 года назад
@@HobbyWorld_one Yes I saw that you did PLA weld the parts, to bad the Weldon 16 will chemically weld the PLA parts much faster and less clean up. The chemical PLA weld will not come apart at the joint, you can break the PLA parts before they will seperate at the glue weld point. Great Project you did and thank you for sharing with us.

Hi and thanks for the comment, I'm still active :) As far as I remember the model is pretty hollow behind the chest. I'm a little late to the party here, but it'd be much easier to select all, tab to edit mode, p, then separate by loose parts. get out of edit mode then it'll be MUCH easier to select the ones you do want grouped after all, right click and join then export them. This is awesome though, I never thought to print one life size

I haven't begun to print anything yet, but I'm researching and learning until I can get a printer. For this T-800 project, and using the Ender 3 Pros, what was the nozzle size, wall thickness and layer height? I saw you had a 15% infill selected.
@HobbyWorld_one
@HobbyWorld_one 2 года назад
I used a 0.4 nozzle with a layer height of 0.2 on the ender 3 pro printers. Generally I used an infill of 10%. I used a 0.6 nozzle with a layer height of 0.4 on the CR10S Pro printer. Just shoot away if you have more questions, I'd be happy to help :)

Was there any parts that impossible to print in the Ender Pro-printers? Being to large or in other ways hard to fit on the 220x220x250mm? Or can you just split objects in to smaller parts? :) I am so impressed by this project and your skills. Can't wait to give it a go myself!

I finally bought the 1:1 T-800 .STL from RenderHub that I wanted! (on sale :D ) - I went through all the parts files, and you should be commended for all the work you have done to build your Terminator. The download I have is grouped into 64 categories with multiple parts each. And some of them have to be sliced to fit the printer bed, as you mentioned. I see exactly why it took you WEEKS to just get the files ready. This particular model already has the parts separated and aligned to the bed, ready to print, But to avoid a lot of supports, many of the files will have to be cut up. What a huge undertaking :P I hope I have the inner strength that you have in order for me to see this through LoL On the bright side, since I will be making molds and castings of these, there's a lot of parts that are identical from left to right sides, so I only need to print 1 of each of those. Still, what a lot of parts! :O
@HobbyWorld_one
@HobbyWorld_one 2 года назад
Hi, and sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for your comment, its much appreciated. So cool that you have started working on your own terminator, and you are absolutly right splitting and preparing all of the parts is a really time consuming part of the build. What do you plan on casting the model in, resin, metal? Best regards and thanks for following.
@bluebeast440
@bluebeast440 2 года назад
@@HobbyWorld_one I'll be casting in resin, with a lot of the cylinders being hollow cast and foam filled (The spine parts probably foam filled too as well as the motors). I'll also be using polished aluminum rods. I'll be happy to finally have a Terminator, but if I can sell castings too, that would be cool. They'll be the cleanest castings ever available, and I'd sell them for less than most people do :D Also, the Terminator 40th anniversary is coming soon, so hopefully the timing will boost any potential sales. But first, I have to make this thing lol.
@HobbyWorld_one
@HobbyWorld_one 2 года назад
@@bluebeast440 Sounds like a great plan. Think that it's a great idea to cast the stuff hollow. For the moment I will just settle with just finishing this model :) It has been really time consuming so far. Besides I have a lot of other great projects planned in the nearest future ;)

I wouldn't print this out until all the parts were fixed and smoothed out tbh. Very commendable that you did this and how long it must of taken.. well done

Great project! I have been building a 1:1 head and am adding mechanics for eye movements. I am also doing the model of the arm from T2. They come from here. www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/miniatures/sci-fi/terminator-t-800-skull-bust-v2 Screen accurate and designed in 1:1 so no scaling issues. Looking forward to seeing your next video!

Yeah I have seen that model. Right now I'm also working on a model of the head. If I should do this project again I would consider using another 3D model, but I'll make another video about that when the project is finished. Thanks for the comment, and good luck with your project, it sounds awesome :)
