My wonderful husband bought me a super cool 4-color micro-adjusting screen printing press for my birthday. I’m the luckiest!!
I opened the box and the “instructions” included is a single sheet with a photo of the final printer. Way to go guys!!! You had ONE JOB! Anywho, I like a challenge and figuring out how to put things together, so based off the photo I attempted to build the screen printing press. With success. A few hiccups occurred along the way, but you would never know looking at the final product.
This is half instructional and half just me fumbling my way through this project. Hope you get something positive out of it.

Your platen base is way to far forward. Which is making your platen to far back. You do not want the screen holder to rest on the platen. The little disc is for your off contact.

Elevation Print & Sign thanks for the info. After playing with it a bit, I figured it out and adjusted the placement of the bracket on the platen to bring it further out. It's been a learning process, but I love the new press. It's been working great with a few tweaks.

Wow! I'm so late to this party. I'm just getting into printing, so watching a few vids but in this one your board needs to sit on top of the button/nut on top of the main arm. That will allow you to adjust the height between the base board and the screen. Thanks for the post we all learn from "real" events

i packed up the non neck end of the plattern with washers to make it level when the screen comes down

i have the same machine. i have problems registering more than 1 screen. I want to print white underbase. I find when i screw the screen clamp down the registration changes. Have you managed to get good registration?

The Arm of that station is to short, usually the registration Brackets that holds the screen are on either side, which there for allows the screen to set flat on the garment or print board when registering.

I'm sorry to say this but this machines are a pain and micro regs are prety useless and hard to adjust in real production situation. Really nice video. I'm just talking about equipment. I made some money with one like this but it is painful when you get a multiple color job.

Thanks for sharing this.. I've put together a similar press but it didn't have micro adjustments. My plan was to upgrade to a more expensive press for micro adjustment but I have seen one like yours for sale and it's a lot cheaper. I was wondering how good the micro registration work, do you use it?
@StudioMoxy

I have used it. I'm getting ready to put together my first 4 color shirt this weekend. I'll have a video about the process and using the micro adjustment. But the micro does work. It's pretty awesome.

Great video thanks for posting. How's the machine holding up? There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews online on the quality of the press.

David Nagy , thanks! It's holding up great. I had to make some adjustments to it from the initial build, but since then it has worked perfectly.

Awesome to hear :) I originally was going to make one but now heavily leaning on just buying one. This video was most helpful thanks again

I stole the front hub of my neighbors car and made one of these.....hehe. not really, actually I got an old hub lyin around. Think I finally found a use for the little guy, a t-shirt machine wohoo.. I don't think all those adjustments are actually needed because you register and attach your positive to your screens one by one making sure they all line up with your platen and then number your screens and your positions on your shirt machine so you can get each screen back in proper order after you burn them. Any fine adjustment can be done via the screen mount clamps but if you number them all as I said, when you wash them out and remount them do them one by one with your pattern still on your platen. viola... no need for all those silly adjustment knobs. If you watch the way the Filipinos do it, they make a flat wood mount with an angle iron top bracket with alignment holes and stops. The pattern is taped to the platen and each frame is lined up and the positive mounted for burning using the pattern on the platen. After burning and washing the screen automatically lines back up due to the mount pin and stops. The stopss are just threaded bolts so fine adjustments can be made but if you are careful, all your screens will line up perfect with no adjustment needed afterwords. I like it due to much less space needed to do multi colors and it can be stood up against the wall and stored using little space. Now your trying to picture what I described and how it works and you want to see an example, so here you go. Look at how simple it is, no big whirly gig shirt machine needed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0kKWg1Jn0-E.html Here is a great design done the same way by the same guy. The other video is more of a demo and this one is more a production design that looks a lot better but you don't see the mount frame design until later in the video so check out the other one first: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bkjG5UxHQDA.html Here is the same type setup on a long table for production with 4 stations: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3O5L2h9ENCc.html

how does this unit compare to your home made DIY 4 color unit?
@StudioMoxy
@StudioMoxy 7 лет назад
Pixel Kick, The new 4 color machine is so much easier to use than the older diy unit. I had a really hard time with registration and off-contact on the old machine. This one is a breeze. With this one I'm getting perfect prints every time. I'll post more videos soon with other completed projects and will be updating the blog. I would recommend this unit over building a 4 color diy press, but if you're just wanting to do one color printing, a DIY version would work great.

Thanks for your reply... I just built a one color DIY unit - and I'm having registration issues if i simply lift up the screen. once its up, its about a 50/50 chance I'll see ghosting if i need to re-print the same shirt again. I was going to build a 4 color press like your DIY unit, but I've decided to go with a unit like yours. Lucky for me, the wife agrees... she said stop throwing time and money into making one and just buy the 4 color press. :)

Pixel Kick , sorry to hear you were having so many issues with the diy version. I had the same ghosting issue on that kind before too. I hope you love your new press. If you end up getting one like mine with no instructions, check out my blog post on building this. The order for the build makes more sense than the video. When I was recording, I was figuring it out on the fly and did some parts in the wrong order. Best of luck!
