Should you build a 5th Gen SS Camaro in 2020? What if it's an automatic with an L99? I am so excited to start a new car project because it has been a long time since the last one. I have built a few cars/trucks off camera, but this time, I am bringing you guys along for the ride.
In this video, I answer why I picked up a 5 Gen Camaro and address my current build plans. This is very exciting but also very expensive so I will need your support to like and share this build series. I have a 5th Gen Red Camaro 2SS. I’ve placed long tube headers, x pipe, magnaflow exhaust on mine. The car really opens up at high speeds! Fun car to own and build!!

Coming up on a year since I bought my 5th gen... pretty much same criteria as you... wanted to pay cash, low miles, etc... but I had to have the manual with the LS3. I love the 5th gen and have never once regretted buying it. Looking forward to more vids of your build... seems like you have a solid plan. Great production quality with your vid as well!

I have a 2010 SS with an auto. The first two mods I highly recommend for anyone with the L99 engine is a resonator delete (upgrade it to an x-pipe) and a cold air intake. Those two mods free up a noticeable amount of power.. especially on the mid to high rpm range. The second thing is an AFM disabler tune (You can also do this with the Range AFM disabler device, just simply leave it plugged into the OBD port.) The AFM lifters are known to be problematic in this year range and can be quite expensive to repair. I only lost 1-2 mpg by disabling it, quite a useless system if you ask me.. The last thing I HIGHLY recommend is a transmission tune.. this alone makes the car accelerate much quicker.

i have a 2011 camaro 1ss, 50k miles daily driver. cammed, headers, heads, all kinds of stuff under the hood now. but what I would like now is the Digital Octopus stereo w/ backup camera. i seen your rear bumper has sensors, i wish i had those. i just want technology to aid with how much i cannot see. it would be nice to have front sensors because the car is low enough to hit a curb when parking. i would also like blind spot sensors for the side mirrors.

I bought a used 2012 zl1 with 30k on it..I feel very fortunate to have found it,.only 1900 units off the production line and only 99 allocated to Canada where I live..never guess where I found it..I traded in my 2016 shaker challenger at a FORD dealership for it..it's a triple black automatic with sunroof..so that makes it even more rare..I love this car..

Im picking up a 2010 2SS 6 speed tomorrow. First thing is full body coilovers, sway bar end links, tube control arms and ball joints, complete poly bushings with solid subframe bushings. Then it will be heads, cam kit, headers, intake and 93* tune.

These cars are a modification jackpot. There are so many things you can do with these. From performance, tech, visual mods, you name it. Sky's the limit. I had an 06 GTO, and this car is a lot of the same. Years of mods to come. I'm having one delivered in a week and a half. Getting rid of my GTO was the biggest mistake I ever made. Time to make up for it!! Good luck on your build!

GPI SS4 No fly cut camshaft or Texas speed F35 camshaft with a GM set of racing lifters, Comp cams roller rockers(ARC 1.7), E85 Conversion, you already have a great cold air intake. Cat delete with high flow headers and exhaust. Most of all find yourself a really good tuner. Also make sure you update or at least upgrade the trunnions in your rocker arms (been known to cause catastrophic failures. All the above will get you in the ball park 530-560hp depending how aggressive the tune. Cheers

on my second gen5 2ss camaro..now got an inferno orange 2012 in pristine condition and simply loving it. imho the gen 5 camaro is an amazing car and will end up a classic..not over engineered and quite easy to work on.

i just bought a 2014 2SS with 91k miles for $14,000 and i LOVE IT!! its black on black and already has a cold air intake and Flowmasters exhaust installed. i did an cat delete and muffler delete and oh my god she sounds amazing. do not hesitate to go straight pipe on those cars and save money while getting that sound you want. i figure once i pay off the Camaro i will start engine mods and i think 550 to the wheels is right on the money

I own a 2014 2SS , it's my daily driver , makes sure you get a tune on the engine and trans and that is a must IF you are getting long tube headers , cold air intake , etc , think about getting a catch can as well , some MMR Rims with 285 front and 305's in the rear would give it a POP in looks , just be sure if you go all out that you might invest in having the entire AFM ( active Fuel Management system ) completely removed and have your lifters , rocker arms , etc replaced with a good aftermarket parts , get to know a good mechanic that knows his way around our L99 , it's a heaven or hell motor , ( seized up my original engine ) so tread easy bro and good luck , there are plenty of Camaro guys here on youtube ( Lethal Garage , Camaro time , Nasty 2SS ) to name a few , hope by now you have done everything , I'll around if you want to pick my brain ,.. Peace

Just purchased a RS with the very same exterior paint scheme and Interior. Can't wait to see what you do with this car! I am looking into upgrading entertainment to include an aftermarket CarPlay addon... or upgrade to a new system if possible. So when you upgrade your entertainment please be sure to do the video! Hey Chris, looks good, I also just purchased my first 5th gen, a 2014 RS/SS 1LT. IMO one of the best looking cars ever made... Quick observation, that front bumper has been replaced, the paint is off and the lines don’t match, I would recommend removal and doing an inspection. GL

Nice choice man I've went through 4 Camaros 3 5th gens and 1 6 I've got my car addiction under control and settled on keeping the gen 5 zl1 love the white but infernal orange with the orange inlays was my favorite color combo for these, good luck! I think you should go for the 550 mark NA that'd be an awesome build, sure there's cheaper and easier ways to make the power but NA 550 would be awesome.

Nice man, I have a White 2014 SS 1LE. Honestly thought I liked the 6th Gen better and just couldn't afford one. I found this '14 1LE for $23K with only 36K miles and I had to have it. I haven't even tried a 6th Gen man. From all the cool Camaro videos on here it looks like we're the smart guys. There are a few guys posting 6th Gen going BACK to 5th Gen. I feel like you man, I'm going to try to hold onto mine until the grave. Never said "I love my car" everyday until this next dimension ;) Enjoy it man but, be careful brother ;) ....Understand your feelings, we're the last who get to enjoy this kind of muscle

Yes they are worth building in 2020 I built my car last year pulled the engine and built a 417 stroker reused the 2.3l supercharger and made 750whp on e85 and 13psi Eventually I will switch to a Turbo and knock down 1000whp no problem with the right parts these cars look amazing I think 5th gens will age very well

The fun build, starts fun, but will turn not so fun, especially if your going to add booster.. If so go with centrifugal supercharger!! I didn't know better and went 2.9 whipple blew some shit out!! Just a torque monster 👹 good luck!!

I went with this specific vehicle because it offered the best opportunity to have a huge mod budget. Wow - been watching since the old controller reviews and mods, and been loving watching people do more car content, the wheels look amazing as they are imo, and understandable with the auto for your wife but a manual would obviously be more fun, but an auto would probably be quicker off the line - adding some more black to the car would make it look so more aggressive than it already is, but highly recommend going into supercharging if you want more power, the torque gains will be well worth it

I got a 2010 l99 in august of this year and maaaan oh maaan are they fun to drive. The 2010-2013 ss's appearance screams muscle car. That original look and performance is a great combination. Im not a fan of the 2014-2015 ss or 16-20 camaros. They look more like sports cars if anything. I would rather have a 2010 than a 2018. So far Iv'e taken out the mufflers and resonator. Tomorrow im getting some high flow cats installed as well as a cold air intake.

If 550 wheel horsepower is the goal I would lean towards boost lsa or procharger. If you wanna stay n/a I would do heads cam intake combo from gpi performance

98 %%Just Got a 2010 2ss w/87,200 miles that was a n not finished complete restoration. New starter ,battery, radiator,Tires,all hoses and belts and of course new Brembo brakes.The deeper I get into the car the more new stuff I find ! The body and paint are in exceptional shape with a couple of small things to fix ,The worst thing I had to fix was actually cool because I was given personal choice on how to proceed .The drivers seat was dried out and sun damaged(the Maui sun) whereas the back seat being so tiny even Minahunies would be wining after an hour so the back seat was untouched and only needed Bickfords products to get back to 98%. So my big contribution was to get an absolutely top of the line Hide and have Luis's upholstery do it's magic re upholstery on my Camaro. The paint is beautiful, it tracks likes a new car, everything so-far has been perfect.Some where along the way a cold air box was added and I don't know if the HID headlights were stock? It is faster that shit and runs like new! I have been offered Thousand dollars for her but I think they are trying to take advantage of me.

@@dfabove9108Super late reply, but depending on what trim level you have, or what package, HID headlights (low/high beam combo) do come as a factory option. You can tell immediately if they come factory on RS package models, which have the head lamps with the halo ring lights. If you’re going by the bulb size specifically, it would be D1S; and the bulbs are only available in HID and LED (no halogens!) models.

Chris I have a 2012 2ss with an l99 the people on camaro5.com are so helpful currently my mods include kooks longtube headers muffler and resonator delete a cai afm delete and a mild tune all of these are great places to start to make yours different from all of the other camaros on the road

It will be hard to get 550 wheel and stay naturally aspirated, unless you do nitrous or e85 . You'll need a Cam, Heads, Headers, CAI , high performance intake manifold, Hardened pushrods, lifters, springs, high volume fuel pump, ported throttle body, injectors, and good spark. You'll also need other stuff like high temp spark wires, upgraded torque converter, AFM delete , etc .. Your car has 80K miles so it might not have that factory punch anymore, L99's are about 330 wheel so you're asking for over 200 + HP more without forced induction. If you do all of the above it's very possible you'll get 500 WHP with an aggressive tune, but that might get you in trouble as well . Your tune should be conservative if you plan on using daily .. So, a realistic outcome might be in the realm of 465-480 Wheel .. Good Luck Brother ..

I’d say buy wheels, tires and suspension upgrades first. Wheels are the first thing everyone notices, suspension and tires are the most important upgrades on 5th gens to avoid wheel hop and keep the power planted.

Nice purchase but about your power expectations. To make 550 wheel you’re going to need a power adder you won’t make 500 wheel being heads cam. You’re going to need assistance from nitrous or forced induction im cammed fbo makin 420 wheel in a l99

Esteven Sanchez so we have a few things planned... step 1 in 2 weeks... long tube ceramic headers, texas speed stage 2 cam, full valve train basically L99 to LS3 conversions... Step 2: exhaust to headers, upgraded converter, driveshaft, Step 3: pro charger, forged bottom end pieces, new crank, maybe stroke to 416 not sure on this part yet...

Ahh, nice. I’m from AZ and I took my 2012 2SS/RS to Vengeance Racing in Cummings,GA. Built 416 Stroker, they do awesome work if you plan on having a shop do some of the engine work.
