I like the idea! The only thing I would add are through beam sensors on both upstream and down stream pulleys. Then the proximity sensors can trip a contactor on the AC mains or the VFD emergency stop.

good job and thanks for being a people person and sharing < we built one from a rotor tiller many years ago but i cant remember how? but at least i got the idea , a great Christmas family outing for the family ,i live in northern ontario Canada where we watch Santa practice his take off and landings Thanks again

Wow great job! I would love to make one of these! I'm surprised a 0.5 HP motor is powerful enough! How many people can it pull at once? By the way, do you feel comfortable letting it run without surveillance, or are you always next to it incase a kid gets caught in the pulleys? Take care!

Hey. Happy anniversary. Is it up and running for 19-20? I had to do a double take when you got to the top of the tow. The S on that Santa sign made it look like you'd made a fake Stowe (VT) sign.

This is a very nice setup you created Trial n' Error! I am looking into doing this myself, and is the reason I found your video. What would you change to increase torque? My hill is fairly steep and I want to be able to tow at least 2 full-size adults. I am worried 1/2hp or 1hp electric motor won't work. I'm thinking a gas powered engine. Any thought? Thanks for the inspiration!

Get a 6.5 hp predator engine from harbor freight. There’re like $100 and super reliable

For any given horsepower, to increase torque you reduce rotational speed. To reduce the rotational speed, you hook up a smaller pulley in line with the larger one on the drive axle. The smaller the pulley, the slower the lift, the higher the torque.

To wind that rope up and keep it centered you shoulda just taken the tire off and used the concaved valley in between each bead seat to keep the rope naturally centered and act as a natural antislip mechanism by it's natural shape although by removing your tire you'd be changing the ratio of the pulley or tire and wheel that the spins which the rope winds up upon and that little motor may not have the juice for pull that rope without the tire on the wheel
