A while ago, ChatGPT became a "thing" and everyone and their dog was doing videos about it. As per tradition, now that this seems to have died down a bit, I'm putting ChatGPT to the test to see if it can build me a decent combat ship in Elite Dangerous for 1 million credits.
Build comes to about 955,000 credits without discount, and I've tried to follow the spec as closely as possible with the details provided. Question is, can the finished ship handle it's own in combat, or is it a bit of a wet lettuce

The longer I inhabit the ED universe the more I like to try to do more with less. I have a separate CMDR that I plan to play without ever exploring engineering just to see how far I can go. Keep up the good work anyway. Can't wait for your opinion of the Asp Scout....

Aye, there's something good about going against the meta-builds and seeing what you can do with minimal resources - some of the stuff you see out there is mind-blowing, like Thargoid interceptors being taken out with a Sidewinder or Hauler. I did take my usual Viper out for a spin after editing this all together and the difference is night and day in the haz-rez, but for an unengineered ship with minimal internals, and a dummy at the controls, I think Skynet's Offensive did reasonably well Asp Scout won't be the next review (that'll be the Mamba), but I'm getting to know it, and it's going to be interesting...

Fun vid, cheers for that. I bought an Asp scout for much the same reasons, heard it was the worst and all, it's actually fine. Pretty fun to fly but I wouldn't use it for much more than resource gathering or as a bubble bus or short range explorer.

Honestly I've learned a budget build can be horrifyingly good in the right hands. If you need engineering to be a good pilot, that's gonna be a problem regardless I think.

Asp Scout: It's great for High Grade Emissions. Nothing else. Fit with Mining Limpet Controller for 4 Limpets. It does the job out of the gate. With everything at my finger tips I initially only Engineered the FSD to Long Range Deep Charge and for the hell of it threw on Guardian Power Plant and Distributor. Of course, I inevitably got silly and Engineered the Bejeezus out of it (for no discernible improvement to it's ability to do the task).

It does handle remarkably well for it's size - but it doesn't have the speed to go with it, at least before engineering. Trying to keep some mats back at the moment (although when I take the Phantom out for it's review, I'll probably stop at some decent material locations along the way), but the Asp will get a sprinkling of engineering at least - even if that involves borrowing some core internals from other ships in the short term. o7

@@gamingsnipsandbits I have a no Engineering build for my noobie players that works pretty well. My engineered to begeezues Viper III with Enhanced Performance Thrusters is good fun.

Just recently picked up an Asp Scout, just for fun, & to see if it's really that bad. No complaints, really, but my normal ship of choice is a Lakon Type-6, so you be the judge. Can't wait to see your review

That was a fun idea, using AI to design a ship. Maybe next ask it to design the Viper mkiii with an unlimited budget, & see how much better it is

Viper. You aren't using the Cargo Hatch so priority 5 and turn off. My no engineering Viper build for my noobie players relies on Power Priorities to work. Dread Pirate Chris Roberts! That's great.

Yeah, mostly wanted to show that the build given blew the 2A PowerPlant when weapons were out - think the cargo hatch was demoted to slot 2 and everything else managed to stay active (although on the borderline). As for Mr Roberts - did make me chuckle when I saw that ship appeared, and as a pirate no less 😁. o7

@@gamingsnipsandbits I am sure it did go into oxygen depletion. I did notice that you didn't turn off your Cargo Hatch and in the video at least you only reduced it to priority 2. My viper build doesn't work either, but it does. Cargo Scoop is Priority 5 and disabled. Docking Computer, Supercruise Assist, and Fuel Scoop are all priority 5 and turn off when I deploy hardpoints. It was a comment en passant. I don't want to make too much of it. I suspect you would still be scratching your head if you fully utilised all 5 priorities to try to get it to work.
