I had the pleasure of working at Caterpillar in South Milwaukee, WI as a contractor. It was awesome building the separate compartments and seeing everything come together to make such a massive and powerful machine.
It is essentially a Bucyrus machine with a Caterpillar badge. Seems to be a common theme in the mining and construction industry where equipment started life as one thing only to be repainted as another.
CAT is good at buying up their competition. They always pushed mechanical haul trucks even the electric drive trucks ran circles around them. Then they bought Unit Rig.
I shouldve taken the offer to tour the facility in Wisconsin where these were built back in college. Decided to stay back at the school and finish my welding. Kind of regretting not seeing these built on the line.
^^^ His ^^^ "little brother" is hangin' across from Miller Park. Rides are "A Buck a Minute" on family day. (Presidents get to play "Zoom~! Zoom~! " free, in exchange for rides on Air Force One.
@@shahramrazaghi7568 Yes that's right. Under 3 min load time, with average of 370 tons per truck. 235 trucks per shift. That's in the best of digging conditions. Doesn't happen often.
Hi generationll. Thanks for your question! We're working to get you in contact with the right person at Caterpillar, and we'll follow up with you soon. - Rachel

When I first started working in machine shops back in the mid 80's, an old timer bet me $20 that he could pick up a dime off the floor with a forklift. I went without lunch that day.
I wonder if I put some sand in that bucket if my cats would use it as a litter box? Then when it's time to clean it out, I just start it up and dump it in my neighbor's yard. I'm thinking this might be a good purchase. Now where did I put my wallet.....
We're very sorry to hear this, iV. Please send your name, email, phone and location in a private message and we'll pass your information on to our district office for further assistance. - Rachel

The slight zooming on on every slide makes this unwatchable. I tried but only made it halfway through. I was going to complain about the useless audio track too but at least you can mute that.
Are these nuclear-powered? There's NO WAY that you could run it with deisel fuel. Think of how much a full tank of gas would cost--not to mention the low gas mileage! No, they must run on something other than deisel or gasoline.
@@GregoryTheGr8ster The generators that run these are diesel. Essentially emergency backup generators on a trailer. Large power cable pushing 7200 Volts and 2575 kW from the generator to the rope shovel. Youd need one hell of a solar/wind turbine field. But neither would be useful part of the time to run these 24/7.
@@Ratkill9000 the ones I worked on only used the truck mounted generators to walk them, when they were moved significant distances. They had power cables laid across the ground to bring power to them from the electric power lines when digging.
