Awesome job. Beautiful to watch. But you should have filled it with cigars for the final reveal. ;-)

Wow........... You made something look simple and easy to do while also doing an amazing job at it! I’m a neurological surgeon and I could never attempt this and even get remotely close to what you created! You are very talented! My fellow doctors don’t always like to give out such high praise, especially neurological surgeons, when it comes to precision work that requires quite a bit of effort like this. Still, everyone should be able to see the skill demonstrated here!!

@PetesShopMakes
@PetesShopMakes 3 года назад
Hello, I have a couple questions for you in regards to humidor construction. Is there ever any issue with the glass fogging up or any condensation forming on it due to humidity or is that just a non-issue with these types of humidors? I believe from what I understand that typical humidity and temperature should be 70% at 70 degrees but am not sure if that's even enough moisture for that to be any concern at all. I'm building my first humidor out of an old grandfather clock in a few days and the clock has a glass door in front and then two glass panels on the sides and I wasn't sure if that will be an issue or not. Also, I was concerned about using any products with chemicals in them like silicone caulk to seal certain parts to make them airtight and if that will have any effect on the flavor of the cigars over time or if using any other oil or water-based sealants or stains on the wood would pose a potential risk for them off-gassing over time as well. Any help or info you can give would be greatly appreciated or if you know a good website or forum perhaps about the do's and don't of humidor construction being that this is my first time building one and I am just trying to get as much information as possible as to not ruin the entire project and potentially thousands of dollars worth of cigars. Thank you in advance and great video by the way. Very nice job.
@mikkaolsson434
@mikkaolsson434 3 года назад
It’s not an issue at all. Condensation forms when there is a high difference in temperature on each side of the glass and higher humidity exist on one side.
@mikkaolsson434
@mikkaolsson434 3 года назад
You will want to use solid Spanish cedar on the inside as much as you can. Also keep in mind aromatic cedar is not the same as Spanish and can’t be used. Sealing a crack with a silicone is not an issue. Over time as silicone hardens it stops giving off any gases

@PetesShopMakes
@PetesShopMakes 3 года назад
@@mikkaolsson434 Thank you very much for all the information. When I get to the shop I will measure the inside of the clock. It's not very big and the customer already purchased a unit for me to install but I have all that in my shop and can't remember the type or brand off-hand but once I get that info I'll let you know and maybe you can tell me if it's any good or not. He also has some small digital hygrometers that he wants to be installed as well but I assume those will be ok. Thank you for mentioning the aromatic cedar. I didn't realize it was so bad to use. I know Spanish cedar is the industry standard from what I've seen in order to make humidors but I only have a few board feet of the aromatic as well as some 4x4's of western red cedar that I was going to use for the internal framework to be able to attach the removable shelves that I'm building for it but if you say that it's not good to use then what do you think of Honduran mahogany? I've heard a few other people say in some videos that I've watched that mahogany can be used as an alternative to the Spanish cedar but what do you think? I have a few 12in by 6ft slabs of some 8/4 Honduran mahogany but other than that, if you think the cedar I have is no good then ill have to see if I can find some Spanish at my hardwood dealer. Was hoping not to have to buy any wood for this project to keep my costs down but I also want to build the best cabinet possible. Thanks again for the info and again I'll get back to you with the cubic feet as well as the brand of humidifier that I received. ok, talk to you soon.
@PetesShopMakes
@PetesShopMakes 3 года назад
@@mikkaolsson434 Oh one other thing, What can I use around the frame of the door to give a good airtight seal. Will just any weather stripping work or do they make some special thin gasket or something. The door and its hinges and the way it closes onto the face frame of the clock is a pretty tight tolerance and I'm afraid any old weather strip will cause the door not to close all way which will obviously defeat its purpose. What would you suggest I use?
