A 377 sbc, a destroked 400, revs even better than that of a 383. The 383 stroker is a 350 block with a 400 crank, BUT… you get yourself a 400 block and put you a 350 crank in that bad boy, making you a 377, and then you’ll be mopping ALL of the floors without doing any talking whatsoever!!! That thing will rev to moon and back and do it quick, fast and in a fucking hurry!!! I’ve built a few back in the day and they are some little screamers!!!

So for anyone wanting to build a stroker 350. (383 is a 3.75 stroke 30 over 350) a common build we do at the shop which is just fun as hell and is a pretty deadly street combo. Make your bottom end stout. Forged pistons. Good rods. Good crank. Forged if you're able to. AFR 220s put 1.6 rockers on it. 232-240@5 500/500lift on 108 Holley 750dp. For efi situations grind LSA on say 110-120. To take it a step further. Go spend some dollars and get a shaft mounted rocker system and put solid lifters in. Enjoy.

A 383 is a 350 4 bolt bored 30 over with a small block 400 crank. The more you bore the hotter the engine will run. High flow heads low compression pistons h rods and twin turbo with fuel injection. 9.0 to 1 is as high as you want to go 8.8 bolts to handle the boost. Turbo 400 transmission built ford 9 inch or chevy 12 bolt rear end. If you find a small journal 327 and can find a 260 crank you can build a 302 capable of over 9,000 rpm's with twin turbos if built correctly it will give a new Corvette a run for it's money and sound absolutely amazing. But both of those set ups cost more than most can afford to spend whereas a junkyard ls twin turbo charged is actually very affordable.

Block and heads are shaved and it pushes 450 foot pounds of torque and sounds like a regular v8 gets about 16 mpg. Daily driven for a long time but I put it in storage. My first ride back in the day was a 1987 suburban 3/4 ton 4X4. Years later found out that the 5.7 had a 4 bolt main from the factory. Even later, ran into a friend that his dad worked at a nice mechanic shop....and we did a 1/4 stroke upgrade from extra parts his dad had accumulated over the years. Dropped the bad boy into a 1983 square body short bed single cab with a 9" Ford rear end in the back, and a built up power glide trans.... I accumulated many speeding tickets and hatred from the other people at my highschool that claimed to have fast cars. Would do it all over again. Side note: had to assist with all the upgrades done to the beat, no free bees.

@@sixx6sixx107 😂 no it doesn’t. A cylinder is a cylinder and you can get heads for gen 1 small blocks that can flow just as much as any LS head. The generation of engine means nothing as to airflow. They may flow more than previous generations did stock due to head improvements over the years but a set of aftermarket heads can easily fix that. What makes the LS block so great is the generational improvements like the bearing caps allowing the bottom end to hold up to a lot more power.

I built a 377 (the block bore was standard) stroker way back in like 1990 before most people even contemplated it-before everyone became obsessed with turbos and blowers. Hell nitrous oxide wasn't on the streets hardly back then. I use 10 to 1 flat tops a set of 202 fueling heads a big lumpy cam among other things and put it in a piece of shit looking gray primer 76 Camaro and embarrass a lot of people with it. But I had one problem. That engine twisted the body of that car like a rag I did not think to put subframe connectors on because I really had no idea what that engine was going to do to that car. It completely dark the leaf springs so I had to add a leaf so it wouldn't sag down to the ground. It had the body twisted so much that to open the passenger door you had to roll the window down a little bit because it was jammed up in the groove so far and on the driver side the door was just dragging on the seal LOL. I had to scrap the body and it ended up going in a 55 Chevy pickup.

Id say whats better is a 2 bolt main 400sbc machined to accept 4 bolt splayed main caps and either run that as high compression OR destroke it to a 383 which lowers compression and lets you run more boost 👍

The four bolt/two bolt main doesn’t matter if it’s built correctly you can extract the same power it just has a better chance of living under higher power with 4 bolts. The small block Chevy also doesn’t breath as well as the LS and to be honest it’s in the heads of the LS that is where the biggest performance increases come from. An LS is way easier to build also it just is. Unfortunately the good old small block isn’t as easy to find anymore, an LS is in everything. Idk but I still love the older small block trust me I do!

With good fuel it's possible to run 15:1 or more compression BUT the fuel and timing have to be set correctly. Musi was running 17:1 in his big blocks back in the 90's
@consaka1
@consaka1 2 года назад
@@christianvradenburgh994 what's your definition of good fuel? Because I doubt even premium (90 octane) is going to be enough for 15:1. Regardless there are two elements at play here for the gas engine and only one for diesel engines. For a gas engine you need to be concerned that your octane rating of the fuel can handle the level of compression and two the cylinder pressure at TDC. When you have added the turbo to the mix on a high compression engine your TDC pressure is seriously going to spike and that extreme pressure can destroy engines. IF you are going to run high compression you need to keep boost fairly low, nothing crazy. If you want to go crazy with boost and have your engine last you drop the compression ratio and up the boost. With a gas engine it's all very complicated and must be figured with the math for the octane rating of your fuel. This is related to why big blown engines often end up running on alcohol. With diesels it's the same except you don't have to mess with the fuel as that part is simpler but in a constant high boost situation you still want low compression. Your engine will last a lot longer. Think marine build engines of the 90's had 18:1 ratios. That same engine in a truck was 21:1. We found those engines actually worked well in trucks too as long as your environment wasn't too cold for starting.

I just enjoy people who are passionate about what they do and they know what the fuck they’re talking about and you can’t hide you know it’s like you either that or you’re not that I happen to not be a car guy but I appreciate how you deliver

400 crank in a 350, balance the crank, rods, pistons, stud the mains, big flow heads, dual plan hi rise intake with a stout 4150 Holley 750cfm, go drive and grin!🇺🇸😎💥

You know he doesn't know what he's talking about the moment he says 12:1 then starts talking about forced induction, you're going to blow your heads sky high doing that. On top of that once you're in the 12:1 compression ratio range you're already running race gas so at that point you might as well bump it all the way up to 14:1 and make some real power. The 383 is a great motor and can make some real power but pound-for-pound on a dollar for dollar bill the ls tends to still be the reigning champ

Back in the day yes. But tuning and fuel has come a long way since then. Although 12:1 would be the highest I'd go on boost lol
