@@ewasteredux The previous owner of the board had replaced three of the capacitors, but the vast majority of the rest were original, and even the ones the previous owner had installed were bulging at this point lol

I'm always torn. I REALLY want to make shorter 20-30 minute videos, but nothing ever goes to plan when dealing with vintage PCs. However, I also usually end up with 3+ hours of footage of just me trying to troubleshoot things. I have to try and balance interesting footage vs me just trying 12 different sticks of ram and 8 graphics cards to diagnose a no-post only to find out I forgot to plug in the P4 connector (real thing I did recently in the Behemoth video lol)

@@joshwa1234 I love the G450 PCI, a really good way to get decent performance in lower end systems!

@@chaos1291975 I hate to admit this but I mostly learned from trial by fire. I've always had to repurpose old PCs, not just for fun but for my actual computer as well, and I've accidentally killed more than my fair share of computers. Whether by installing a capacitor backwards, forgetting to change the jumper settings for CPU voltage, or full sending it with bulging capacitors. I've also once forgotten to change the power supply input voltage settings from 115 to 230 before I plugged it into a 220 outlet. There's a lot of good resources on RU-vid, so although I have ruined a lot of hardware, I've learned every step of the way how to not do that again

@@LowSpecActionSquad thanks for getting back to me . that is how i have been learning i never was a learn by book person i have always had to do it . i started out building guitar foot pedals then did a guitar amp and i was hooked now i try fixing everything i can lol well your channel is a very good resource . there just is not much about the old stuff and how it all started . so thanks again and and take care and stay safe.

@@djpiles1982 almost, It was limited to 2 gigs of RAM, although there are ways to get around it. Windows 98 is kind of a mess when you start throwing it at high-end hardware. I think there's also a CPU speed issue when you get above 2.1 GHz, but I've never actually run into that because I don't install it on CPUs that fast. I think the maximum drive size for Windows 98 natively is something like 127 gigs, It's somewhere around there. But like with most of the other issues, I'm pretty sure there's a way to get around that hard drive limit

FAT16 was limited to 2 Gig ... but Windows 98 could use FAT32

​@@LowSpecActionSquadI think windows 98 has issues with RAM larger than 512 meg ... it did for me on a recent P4 build

@@OldChevy79 I've got one in the works with an AMD K6-II 233 MHz, just waiting on some parts. The plan for that one was Windows 3.1 and 95

@@gentuxable It turns out they might be for the front panel of the case, they're not a fan screw though
