I looked everywhere for a fairing/wind deflector for my van. Could not find one I liked so I built a custom one. This is how I did it!

My Friend, maybe flip the stainless bolts over for a little less drag/noise? Great job, inspiring!🙂

Building a Custom Van Wind Fairing/Deflector

Nice I'm thinking of just making it out of 22 ga steel sheet (48"x12") and just bending , painting and screwing it to my aluminum cross bar.

Don, can you give us an update on this deflector? I'm finishing up my Express van and have 2 solar panels on the roof in the same configuration as yours. I can feel the drag on the highway and I am wondering if your deflector has solved your drag problem. Also, when I saw your completed project, the first thing I thought was "a good wind would cause it to lift upwards". Even a sidewind. I'm in CT but I'll be going to the southwest where the winds across the highways can be wild since they travel across the plains for miles.

Hi Ron, It worked very well. We have sold the van and got a camper instead as we plan to do a lot of travel.Dont blame you for leaving CT. We moved away from there.

I'll give you a thumbs-up for the effort but I don't like that you didn't match the curvature of the roof

Thats really bad. Friction will take off paint at the point of contact. The angle is too steep so substantially increases fuel consumption.

The main reason for the fairing was to help push the wind over the solar panels. Works great. Thanks for watching!
