Brother! From an actual Engineer to another, please plant some bamboo or something on that slope. The extremely steep slope, the clay soil, no vegetation cover, and the river down below are the best ingredients for a massive mud slide that could take your deck and trailer for a ride. I was born and raised in Barranquitas. I've seen this before. I'm genuinely worried. Feel to DM me if you want some advice. Take care.

There are resources online that will tell you how far you can cantilever your deck area with various dimensions of wood be it 2x6, 2x8, etc. With a 2x10 you can cantilever approximately a quarter of its overall length. 8 ft = 2 ft. One thing to keep in mind building a deck...you're not making a watch.

You should yakisugi the wood which is burning the wood. this prevents wood rot.

I think you are cantelevering when you extend beyond the supports.

That back side your building would be a great place for an outside shower, working on the property and soon building a home an outside shower would ease up on the travel trailer shower. I would ease up on how tight you have the trim it to the trailer as one day your going to want to pull that trailer out. Its sad when a man does not build a big deck to cover his prized possession.

since you are right next to a stream you should look into a Pelton Wheel set-up for your electric. Between that and solar you should be fat city for electric.

It not too late to use joist hangers. It will increase the vertical and lateral strength by 100%. I learned the hard way!

For a cantilever like your building you shouldn’t go more than one half of the deck surface. So if you have a 4’ deck you shouldn’t cantilever more than 2 feet. I also hope you put a double beam under the joists attached to the 4x4 posts.

Bad idea to put your RV so close to the bank because if it slides so may you. Also chickens when they are small will peck on one another regardless of their sex. When they are gangly looking as you say and if their feathers are very ruffled and don't look very healthy they very well may have mites so you need to check them for mites or get some mite dust to treat them.

You should look into a hydroelectric system for that creek.. Get yourself a stream engine from Energy Systems & design. with a little work you could have free power

I gather the deck is very temporary? Due to no joist hangers ? Never sure with you guys - nothing seems permanent.

Part of learning is dealing with the mistakes you create by thinking you know when your younger...lol I just hope that trailer never gets a flat or needs to be moved. At least the trailer should have been set on blocks so when those tires go flat it wont be a problem till it has to be moved. Trailer trash tips 101!

Hey Matt , you should have put gravel to sit your posts on because capping the bottom of the post captures the water inside the posts and your posts rot much quicker than leaving the bottom of then draining on gravel.

Hallo Matt, question: why didn't you secure the main beams of your porch the same way that you are doing the deck. i.e., dig a hole, fill it with cement and place the beam in it. Less work and more stability?
