my first vid. I am a carpenter and do a lot of deck work. I think you guys are great. Very stylish. Only thing I would add is I make sure to use ledger screws when attaching. Back in the day we'd use leg bolts instead. And when I install flat blocking I always cleat them underneath for structural support. A bit of extra work but worth it. You guys do absolutely beautiful work for sure. Thanks for the vid.

Between the water issues that are being covered up and the flat blocking this deck will have a very short lifespan.

Let's add on the lack of room for movement and the fact that all those load bearing insets are only supported by toenails. But these guys didn't design it, they're doing the best they can.

@@THEpremieroutdoor ive done some more research - your blocking makes total sense to me now. I build decks with wood decking but starting to get into composite, Im understanding the blocking/bridging is more important for composite especially number of stair stringers for composite. Appreciate the vids you guys got a good business going hope its super profitable man

For the flat blocking, do you use any type of flashing over those areas? Is there any reason to be concerned about water coming through the composite decking and sitting on the flat blocking?
@THEpremieroutdoor
@THEpremieroutdoor 4 года назад
Yup, you definitely want to use flashing tape over any flat blocking like this! In one of the upcoming videos I’ll show what we use before the decking goes down

Amazing content! thank you so much for posting. I have been learning so much from your videos! Had a quick question. I am building a ground level deck..18" in height. Is it ok for me to connect joists from the ledger board to the beam with screws on the other end, as opposed to resting the joists on top of the beam that you usually see with high level deck?

Not impress yet, I am impressed at how difficult you say all of this is. Great sell job I must say. Been doing this for 5o yrs or so, your nail trick is one that most pros know. So keep it in your pocket Just saying RC

At the 5:36 mark, over your right shoulder, why is there a plumber framing under the window? It has to be a plumber because farmers don't show nearly that much butt crack! So, I nominate the guy under the window to now in any upcoming videos be referred to as "Crack". Good video, except for too much skin being shown.

Quit watching after seeing the standing water and an electrical cord lying in it. With no effort to grade the earth before building the deck, the homeowner can plan on having a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes. Just a suggestion to viewers - don’t make a habit of following people who don’t know what they are doing.

Downspout used to terminate right on the ground at the corner of the house. We extended it to dispense on the outside of the deck and the problem was solved
