I have an old Dual 130watt Xeon and if you place a fan on the back of the first heatsink it will improve air flow making the second cpu only about a degree hotter. I wouldnt consider this fan stacking when a heatsink is in the middle.....

@deletewin32
@deletewin32 8 лет назад
+Jannik Jung If you use the Noctua-parts/accessories right, you should be getting great airflow with low db. What other parts are you going to use? If it is ment to be on a gaming-computer, would I probably recommend a 120-140mm cooler!
@JannikJung0
@JannikJung0 8 лет назад
It is going to be a virtualization Host Server in a Chenbro RM41416 4U case. I am using a Intel S2600CWT Mainboard and a single E5-2658v3 with 16GB DDR4 ECC RAM (might upgrade soon). I am also using the EVGA Power Supply, ha! It will be running in my office, so I'm a little bit concerned about noise, that is why I was asking.

Cool built. But surprised to see the poor applying of the thermal compound on the cpu & heatsink. The heatsink is built the same size to the cpu die for that reason. Purpose of compound is to sandwich them together equally across the entire surface for optimal heat transfer. Applying just a drop in the middle for contact point will perform less well in cooling. 7:52
@deletewin32
@deletewin32 7 лет назад
Well, in idle was the temps: 38c and 40c. 68C and 72C under heavy load. I could probably have used some more, but I had to build it fast.
@PrinceVictorValiant
@PrinceVictorValiant 7 лет назад
DaTHack I see ;) can happen. nice for sharing temps ^^. regardless of the compound, I didn't expect it to be that high on full load. After all the noctua cooler (tdp 140w) is almost rated twice the tdp of the cpu at Base freq (tdp 86w). I guess with turbo boost freq well over 3ghz on full load it might close in to the tdp140w mark anyway ^^. Cheers ✌
@slowdog294
@slowdog294 7 лет назад
This is actually the correct method of applying the paste since the heat sink will spread it out as the screws are torqued down. Less is more. Too much is bad...
@PrinceVictorValiant
@PrinceVictorValiant 7 лет назад
A thick drop in the middle isn't spread out equally on the squared surface. it ends up a coin size on square surface cpu & heatsink. Maybe a coin shape paste on a square die can be "okay" or good enough. but is not 100% optimal use. The correct method is to apply the paste smeared across the squared cpu die or heatsink contact point in the very thin layer possible. just for full contact & thermal conductivity. Manufacturers pack the pasting syringe in a typically 5ml to cover 1 cpu & 15ml to cover 3 cpu's. With 5ml they've kept in mind to minimize chance to overdo it, even for beginner users. Some manufacturers state this way of use, but every serious overclocker who renews their cooling paste periodically/annually can tell you same. They diligently apply cooling paste like it's an art itself. just my 2cents mate ^^ Go with whatever gives you better performance. cheers
@slowdog294
@slowdog294 7 лет назад
Actually, it does not matter if the paste covers the entire lid of the CPU since the die only occupies the central region. The heat will transfer from the CPU to the sink as long as the part where the die is has enough compound to keep the air out of the contact zone without being so think that it acts as an insulator instead. For socketR LGA2011 CPUs, it is indeed best to spread the paste out since the die is much bigger...
