Honestly, $150 for a very functional and cool looking setup like this is a goo ddeal.

I came here to say the same thing. The price seems entirely reasonable to keep you organized and productive.

Your videos are so good. Aside from the extremely rich content and information you share, the production quality and watchability of your videos is perfection. I enjoy them so much and have learned so much. Please keep it up!!!!

Hey I really appreciate this comment. RU-vid’s algorithm tends to steer me towards only reviewing gadgets, and I’m always a bit nervous to make videos about projects like these, so I’m really glad you enjoyed it.

I swear every time I watch one of your videos my dreams are visualized. All your setups, gadgets, and stations are epic. Great channel!

Looks great! You could add small labels to the left of the screen on the charger showing what is charging and what is not.
@WorkFromHype
@WorkFromHype 3 месяца назад
Thanks man! I like that idea. Maybe after I get used to where I plug everything labels will "complete the look" lol.

Have you considered mounting the peg boards on a back plate? When you'll want to change/move something you wouldn't have to drill new holes in your drywall🙂 And you can probably run the cables under the leaves to hide them even better, like the main power source! Anyway I've always thought about building a charging station but putting it on a wall instead of hiding it in a cabinet is a great idea though, loved it!
@WorkFromHype

Ahh a backplate… that is a great idea. Would have made cable running much easier! I also like the idea of doing a cabinet, maybe something like a tool bench with those slide drawers with integrated charging.

i have watched a few of your videos and subscribed. i sometimes like to watch desk setup videos, but they are all the same. youve successfully broken from the tired old standard of standing desk, giant monitor, mx mouse and dock. i like your style.

Your video made me think about how I would do a charging setup of my own honestly. Thank you for that. Lots of stuff to consider from powerbanks, to phones, to flashlights, and other battery powered devices. I'll have to look into multiport USB chargers like the one you shown for my family when a lot of us need to charge our devices in preparation for storms.
@WorkFromHype

Glad you enjoyed it and good luck on your project! I will say the one thing about the charging hubs that show the voltage is that I realized some of my USB cables are awful, and were not delivering the power they should have been. That is a benefit I didn’t have time to include in the video.
@abunk8691
@abunk8691 3 месяца назад
@@WorkFromHype That is an interesting discovery by being able to see the voltages on the USB charger. I'll be looking out for one that can display voltages and maybe even the current myself. I've never tested the voltages on USB cables myself but I have experienced changing cables from crappy to better quality ones improving charge times and/or not randomly disconnecting from a computer. Seems like pretty much any awful cable is prone to similar issues of voltage/signal dropoff due to poor continuity of power. For video cables like HDMI, poor quality ones might use copper coated aluminum (or even purely aluminum) can maybe max out around 1080p60 and are prone to dropping out beyond that, but cables with more pure copper makes 4k60 and even higher bandwidth signals possible. Sinilarly too long of a cable also has a same issue due to voltage drop off. An example for this I can think of are Ethernet cables where a longer run results in a lower maximum speed. CAT 6 is rated for 1 Gigabit (1Gbps) at 100m, while CAT 6a is rated for 10 Gigabits (10Gbps) at 100m, but CAT6 can be made to work at 10 Gigabits though with a significantly cable at 55m or so. Knowing those made me prefer going with a bit shorter, thicker, and better quality cables but they can get quite expensive. For not that mission critical uses like sending Ethernet to a WiFi router to a part of the house I'm not typically at I'm fine compromising a bit.

Similarly, I've used metal pegboards to create for a box on the side of my desk to organize my cables, batteries, etc. Makes it easy to use magnets as well as hooks to place everything where I want it to be. The metal pegboards were less expensive than Nick's in the video. Only downside is you've get to be sure about dimensions when you order, as it's more difficult to cut them)

$150 might seem like a lot but to increase the ease of access and function of something you use every day seems worth it to me. Been wanting to do something like this with an ikea skadis pegboard to utilize their ecosystem of accessories. Thanks for the visualization of how a little work can pay off and the idea of the greenery is a good one, turned out great 👌

I like the idea and how you realized it. However there is still a lot of cables visible which for men disturbed the looks of your solution.
@WorkFromHype
@WorkFromHype 3 месяца назад
Yeah I used a few camera angles which made it seem like the cables are hanging off the wall, but in real life, they really disappear into the leaves. The other thing is I didn’t want to actually put electrical wire behind the live wall panels. Even though there’s little fire risk, I didn’t want the cables to become inaccessible. Totally fair feedback though!

Is that a raspberry pi in a clear case mounted under the top shelf, directly above the camera batteries?

Wow, you’re right that really does look like a Pi Case I actually own haha. But no, that’s actually the power supply for the lights. Didn’t know where else to stick it lol.

Another desk youtuber that has gone completely crazy. I love the selfawareness here. Its a real pandemic. But we all get sucked into it. The need to optimize the shit out of everything. At least we should all be aware of it. :)

Hi are there any issues with charging the camera batteries upright in the time you’ve used the setup? Do the connectors not contact as well vs regular orientation? I assume most chargers are designed for laying flat on a surface. Thank you!
@WorkFromHype
@WorkFromHype 3 месяца назад
Good question! So far I've had no issues because the batteries "click" into place. They could probably charge upside down because there is a mechanism that holds them in place. That said, these are a budget set of Sony camera batteries. If they were expensive I'd probably have the same concerns you did, but so far no issues.
