Hello there! This is a video I dreamed of for a very long time. The American Hotel has risen from the ashes and is now framed in.
Losing the original hotel was one of the most devastating days of my life and made me question the entire project, my life's path, and more. But thanks in big part to the support of this channel, we are seeing the American Hotel stand once again.
Thank you all so, so, much for all the support over the years. 2024 is going to be the best year yet at Cerro Gordo, and I can't wait to share it with you all!
Special thanks to each and every volunteer who came up here over the past few years and put work into this place. This wouldn't have happened without you.
Another special THANK YOU to Kyle and Andrew at Southern Sierra Framing. They did amazing wood work raising this thing.
My time up here has taught me so much and I have another very exciting announcement to make -
I wrote a book! I have been working on this for almost two years now and I am SO excited to finally announce it. I put my put my heart and soul into this thing and really dug deep on making sense of these past 3+ years living up here. The book has all sorts of new stories, insights, and history of the town. I think it’s the best content I’ve ever made.
If you've ever got anything out of this channel, I hope you'll consider pre-ordering the book. It is a HUGE way to show support for everything going on and would mean the world to me.

Found this channel shortly after the old hotel was lost. Shared it with my best friend and brother-from-another-mother Joff, and we watched every video each week. Swore that once the hotel was up we'd come stay. Joff passed away a year ago, to the day. You'd better believe I'm still coming up there though. Going to bring something of his so he can come too! The drive to succeed in making Cerro Gordo live has driven me in my desire to change my life's direction. I have learned the skills I need for a new profession. Every time I watch something about this town and it's progress it spurs me on. It's not a ghost town, because it will never die if people continue to believe. I believe in Cerro Gordo.

Sorry to hear about Joff. I am from Australia & let me know when this will happen as I worked a copper lead zinc, silver & gold mine for 17 years. Woodlawn mines, tarago nsw Australia which had a similar ore body in places. I would love to come along & also bring stuff that I got from Woodlawn. I would love to see how the ore crushed would react to flotation cells in a mini lab environment. Adding various reagents to see the reaction

Watching this video was pretty much 22 straight minutes of goosebumps. I discovered this channel within a few weeks of his first posting. As a California resident stuck in London, it helped get me through lockdown. I remember the few video tours Brent gave through the original hotel, and him being filled with such pride at the history it contained. When he posted the video he filmed after it burned down, I remember being partially in shock, and then breaking down myself when he broke down. I relate so much to what compels him and could feel his devastation. This process of rebuilding, and the global support of his followers, Dave Sparks, the entire Keeler community at large, rebuilding a road not once but twice after “once a century” floods…I’m not sure anything could more fully represent the true American spirit over the last 4 years than the rebuilding of this hotel. It means SO MUCH MORE than just walls and floors and a roof. SO MUCH MORE. You’ve got this Brent. We believe in you. We believe in the community you’ve built. And we believe in the American dream. LONG LIVE THE NEW AMERICAN HOTEL!!

I think I have seen this level of community and commitment from Samson and Co and the restoration of the wooden sailing vessel Tally Ho. Your American hotel project looks great so far and looks like it was made possible by many amazing people both in construction and transportation logistics. Your mascot for the hotel when finished should be the Phoenix. See www.google.com/gasearch?q=phoenix%20bird&tbm=&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5

@@GhostTownLivingHere’s is a idea for you. What if you expanded the town after finishing the transformation. Instead of a park for a city center, you would have the old town. Everything around it would be old town style building, no skyscrapers, but shops, houses, hotels, bars (salons), police stations, hospitals, you name it. Just a thought/dream. Good luck with whatever you decide.

@@RubalixAn astute and most progressive suggestion. Revival of a (first or one-of-a-kind) true western mining town from scratch. Kind regards to all. PS: The tourism and it's gratia are among the 'prospective' windfalls to muse, be it as. [edit] @Ghost Town Living Brother, your tenacity is praise worthy of documentation culminating in a screenplay. Future meanderings and conclusion dependent, I'd be enthused to (present and) have you peruse aforementioned gist. "Fat Chance On Fat Hill"

it's emotional because he knows you'll pay him money even though he bought this with investors, he literally went to school for marketing and did a podcast in 2016 that talks how he views content and says that it works on people because it's written to push a narrative that's beneficial for the company or in this case, him and his investors. it's just a start up and his negligence burned down a piece of history that sruvived for 100 years before he showed up. But sure, make him richer so he can do this around the world and burn down more historical pieces. This is amazing, Brent! Seeing the progress, all the blood, sweat and tears put into this. Incredible. The original hotel burning down was such a gut punch! But in a way, it was a blessing. Because it has allowed you to reeeeally put your mark on things. And to create a beautiful place for people to come and visit for years to come. Everyone who has had a hand in it, the volunteers, friends and family. All coming together to create this masterpiece. It’s just amazing. Believe it or not, coming to Cerro Gordo, and especially being able to some day stay in the hotel is legit the number one thing on my bucket list. This is truly epic--from the gut punch of losing the original American Hotel to what we see in this video for the present incarnation. The culmination of perseverance, dedication, and hard work by so many. Very moving in many ways. Well done to all and best wishes for a successful completion. I trust there will be a way to recognize all who contributed, through a plaque somewhere in the new hotel or some other manner. They fully deserve it! Cheers and respect!
