Building a Large Garage 11: Installing a Door and Trim Details

I show you how I install a door as well as some specific trim details in this episode of building a large garage. Installing a steel frame walk door in a post frame is a little different than a wood frame door thanks to it's rigidity, but the overall process isn't too different.
I was able to play with a new toy today which was the Dewalt oscillating tool, and it made cutting my shims back pretty fun.

With everything that gets sent to you I can’t imagine you not having 7 of those oscillating still in a box lol. Bet you get 5 sent to you this week . I used your trim tricks on a project recently for a softball complex and the guys I work with kept asking “ how did you know to do it that way?”, my reply “ just some RR tips and tricks . Appreciate you showing every aspect, some of us are visual learners and live it bro.

For me, the ideas in ru-vid.comUgkxy_pn55PK60wAV3X_C_RoLS_67mNonoCE Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

You can always learn something watching these videos, great craftsmanship. Years ago you could watch "This Old House" and learn how to build a house from Norm and Tommy. No more, nothing covered in detail and made for people with the attention span of a fly. This channel has taken over in giving skill tips often with a great sense of humor.

Oh get Well soon guys. 🤞🏻🌹🧸 By the way I was doing the trim for my new garage using your tips and tricks. I cut the corner trims to lenght and found out I had bought the wrong ones. They are to small to go over the metal, so now I have to unscrew the metal at corners, shorten it and run this corner trim under the side metal. I believe it will turn out great any way. But damn. To redo all the 4 meter corners when I’m alone at this time because of the bug situation is a pain man. Stay safe and hope to see you soon.

5:45 Don't forget when you get replacement blades to get the ones with the quick lock opening. I bought a pack of Bosch blades of the wrong type and tried to grind an opening for the quick lock but the little holes would not line up. The remaining blades will work on my 12V Milwaukee tool back at the shop so not a total waste.

Caught a screw that missed a shim on the passage door but I know you likely corrected that off camera. Your work Kyle is all about detail and for some of us who prefer it, we truly appreciate that is what you're all about. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right the first time and I have to say, even it your style isn't what the industry follows, who cares, your detail work and attention to function as well as construction details makes up for what the industry usually yields to the average customer. I have seen some really bad work in my day and have to ask how a contractor can get the work passed by the city inspectors. Quality, hand work, detail work, craftsmanship etc. is a rare set of items especially in tract housing. Most of the labor skills are not there in those industries but they should be.

I should not have watched this. Your treatment at the gutter ends looks great. I have stood in the rain and watched rain flow past the ends of my gutters. I did not go with an inexpensive builder. My building is fully insulated with radiant in floor heat and perma columns. I came unglued when they finished the walk door and I could pass a piece of paper between jam and door frame. My 10x18 garage door had 1/4 inch gap on sides and top(door to flex seal). They had a professional hook up my opener. He saw the gaps and offered to fix. He did a great job. I mentioned RR Buildings to my contractor before I signed anything. He said he watches your videos.

Tip if don’t do with DeWalt OMT, turn blade around 180° for when “storing” tool. That way, blade doesn’t stick out, &....cuz so easy to adjust (even over the Milwaukee) doesn’t take very long to rotate the blade itself. Just a little tip for ppl who don’t like taking blades of when storing or transporting tool..... Thx for video ✌🏼

I enjoy the channel. I've been in the business for 20 years, and have put on a lot of steel. Why don't you stitch screw the overlaps like Metal Sales recommends in their instruction on the roof steel? We have had some issues with leaks on long runs, as regular screws don't hold the metal together as well, and water can seep in. Stitch screws every foot solve that. I've never liked the overlap look on walls of Classic Rib, we always use Pro Panel II. Have you ever used that?
@RRBuildings
@RRBuildings 4 года назад
not a pro panel guy but it's not bad...we stitch our roofs...just not our porches that are sheathed
@smhammer92
@smhammer92 4 года назад
@@RRBuildings Got it. I watched some older video's maybe you weren't doing it then, because regular screws were definitely going in the overlaps. You ever been dinged by OSHA yet? I have twice. Ridiculous. First time we were cleaning gutters, and finishing up ridge cap at 3:00 on a Friday all done with the job. Nothing is ever safe enough for them. I thought a Morton Steel guy told me that they didn't have to be roped off on the roof if they had a lift like yours on the eave?

Staphylococcal food poisoning usually begins 4 to 6 hours after eating tainted food and generally lasts 24 to 36 hours. You should report the offending restaurant to the health department so others won’t get sick 😷 like you guys. Poor hand washing and/or food prep is the culprit. The build is looking great!
