Very nice fume extractor build for the batteries

Now I could think of lots of applications for that circuit.

Beautifully simple and elegant solution Amon :) great vid as always! by the looks of the fan shroud I might have just the excuse I need to justify a 3D printer :P haha

This is a great video. Thank you. It would be great if you could make an updated version using a mosfet.

What would be the power consumption of this circuit once the cut off has engaged?

Excellent video. I am currently looking to buy or make a voltage disconnector. Could someone suggest how to modify this circuit to switch off at approx. 2.7~2.8 volts and switch on at 3~3.3 volts?

Wish this was a kit to purchase. Especially if it was preset for 18/20v lithium packs for power tools.

Thanks for clear and concise explanation. Nice implementation, yet I think it still needs more important features. Once it turned off, those 555 circuit is still active and drawing current continously. Which is kinda a bummer, exactly for the battery life that we want to protect. I prefer using a kind of momentary switch to turn the circuits on, then eventually it would terminates completely when it switched off. Using MOSFET (instead of a relay) is another huge bonus for efficiency.

Please Sir is it efficient to use it for led torch application requiring the usage of portable lithium ion battery as a source of power? You also talked of swiping the Relay for a Mosfet, is it to improve the efficiency?

Since you added solder to the traces, how many amps would this board handle?

How to convert gerber files that I download from your link to PCB doc file? I send the file to my store and they asked me to convert it.

It's not so difficult to actually build normally open contacts with MOSFETs as well. Since this is just a window comparator I personally wouldn't use the standard NE555 in a battery powered circuit because of its power consumption. Nice to have a portable extractor 👍🏻😎

Actually, that would make a good video topic! Building an NC/NO MOSFET switch.....

@@Schematix haha. Yes. Solid state relay is also possible. Obviously the same thing, but easier to use.

Why not use a 18650 charge board with that build in and can charge or run by wall charger too?
@Schematix
@Schematix 3 года назад
For sure that feature could be implemented into the fume extractor however, I'm personally not bothered by removing the 18650s and changing them.

@@Schematix what he means is there are so called bms boards. They won't even protect your batteries, but switch automatically as well as charge batteries at the same time.
@Schematix
@Schematix 3 года назад
@@p_mouse8676 For lack of a better explanation, this LVD is more universal in applications than an off the shelf BMS. This could be used on SLA, Lipo, NIMH and so on. Plus since the relay is mains power rated, it can be used to switch 110~240AC power. Sure this doesn't have the fancy bells & whistles of your typical BMS. However, In an application where you just simply need a set voltage cutoff, or switching mains power, this gets the job done.
@p_mouse8676

@@Schematix that's totally true! 👍🏻 I guess that wasn't completely clear in the video maybe?

Hope anyone here can help...I am looking for this very application, to be used on 4cell and 5cell packs Nihm or nice batteries... preferably with lcd screen to select both up and down voltage to trigger cutoff. Intent to use this application for both charging and discharging batteries. The modules I have seen matching this secure, are only for lead acid batteries. In fact.. I need a large order if I could locate manufacturer

What about under 5v? Eg 3v for 18650 protection.
@coolnic1137
@coolnic1137 3 года назад
You would have to boost the voltage from the 18650’s to at least 4.5 or higher otherwise NE555 will most likely not work due to insufficient voltage.
@angryman3317
@angryman3317 2 года назад
I get It's an old thread/video but it was my understanding that all 18650 lithium cells actually had Circuit boards in the end of them that had voltage protection ect. Is this not your experience?

can i use this ckt for 48V ?
@coolnic1137
@coolnic1137 3 года назад
The VReg LM7805 nor NE555 can handle that much voltage you would have to drop it down to at least 16V for NE555 to handle it, but I think the max input V of LM7805 is higher than that of NE555 but I think it’s somewhere in the 30 range.

I don't see the usefullness of this circuit. The whole point of a LVD is to disconnect/connect the source voltage when it goes below or above a certain threshold. All this circuit does is open or closes relay contacts.

Been with yo for years, just unsubscribed. Why? Too many adverts/ paid promotions. Now unsubscribing from all channels with mid role adverts. Prolific adverts killed tv, now adverts are killing the tube. Greedy tube.

Well, that's a shame :( The reality is these videos cost a lot of money, time & effort to produce. Money no object, I would produce videos ad/sponsor free however, I need to eat just like any other man. Most of my videos don't qualify for mid roll's since they are under 10mins long. And maybe if ads bother you so much, consider buying youtube prem? = Good buy adverts! :)
