I'm not trying to downplay his build but, realistically, castles were massive feats of engineering and earthwork. Many castles altered the terrain around them to better suit them. Moats, wooden castle walls, mottes, and retaining walls are all great examples of this.
To be fair, castles were actually intentionally designed to have confusing interiors for the uninitiated so that anyone trying to storm them would have a harder time.
@@__lasevix_castles are also used for military purposes and you’re not just going to give up if they make it inside so having a confusing interior would give defenders an advantage when otherwise they do not
Every castle was different, but there were some common techniques, like Two walls an inner and outer wall with gates that didn't align so they could shoot at intruders in case they broke trough the first one, another technique was spiraling stair to the right so defenders would have an advantage on the attackers (because they have more room to slash their swords). a gatehouse was really common with two gates and a "killbox" in the middle were they could trow stones and shoot arrows at the attackers with minimal risk. the keep had a removable stair at the entrance wich they could push away incase the attackers broke trough all the defenses. and for the last one... sometimes castles had secret exits hidden in the wall so they could launch a sneaky counteroffensive
LMAO the ending. Reminds me of those monks who make the crazy colored sand art pieces and *immediately* brush them away when done. Ephemeral Art is awesome!
Hi Flow, you might not see this comment but I just want to say that I always feel happy whenever I see you upload, and I know many others do too. Ive been watching your videos for almost a year now, and Im really happy that youve grown an audience unlike any other. Your videos just have something so real about them, they're never over the top, and its always interesting to hear and see what you talk about or create. Keep being awesome man
This is definitely more fit for a count, and not a king. There's still some power projection over nearby villages, but the castle itself isn't very large or well-fortified. It's more similar to a chateau. It can defend itself against angry peasants, and has fancy fixtures, fit for a landlord.
@@deejeh9494 It's complicated. Also, I know. I am French. However, a Château is more luxurious, and focused on amenities and basic defense against annoyed peasants, not a well-organized army. If you search it up, you'll see the difference compared to a classic castle. Châteaus are what you might call a manor house.
@@Halcy_n I know what it translates to. Je suis français, osti de tabarnak. I'm saying that in a chateau, in both the French and English interpretations, is different. It is a more luxurious, less-defended estate. It is a manor as you might call it.
Thank you so much for talking about being less "uptight" with your builds, this is something that I have been struggling with and am excited to give a try
I love your mindset of "it is what it is." The entire build was just a series of "it is what it is" and the finale to top off the cake was a big fat "it is what it is." I think a lot of people would benefit from having this mindset in general, especially when it comes to small annoyances that shouldn't be made to be bigger than they actually are.
After watching this video I was inspired to build something that wasn't perfect with no real plan and I'm happy to say I'm very pleased with how it turned out! Love the creative builds!!
i so love how real you are with your builds when you decide you don’t like something or you changed your mind at the last second. it just makes it so much better knowing great builders are willing to change things up
I really enjoyed it. I always built castles and strongholds but I am never really satisfied with the comparison between imagination and reality. So this really helped me learn and get inspired.
Well, I already consider it as art. I don't think you need anyone to name it as such for it to be. Even if it's not conventinally and generally seen as art, if this is not it, then what is?
Flow you are the reason I started caring about Minecraft, your videos are so satisfying, so fun and so inspirational. I always think that you are gonna stop with the building with no plan videos and that sucks, please don’t stop. This is a type of content we can not find anywhere else. Thanks!
A little tip for building roofs on top of randomly shaped buildings: if you think of the roof like you do with the rooms on the interior of a house, with different segments stacked together to make one shape. If you separate the roof into chunks while building, it can allow you to make a better adapted shape to fit it, and add some variety to top off the structures. Hope this helps, great videos btw!
Dude, watching your videos has become one of the best ways for me to entertain myself. Whether it's building without a plan, or the cinematic survival, or something else, I really enjoy it man... XD
I was watching this video for a bit, and when you got to some of the interior, I was super excited and then I started having an existential crisis because I do that when I get overwhelmed; and now I’m just trying to keep myself from having a mental breakdown. Cool stuff by the way. I love the texture packs you used.
I am so glad that I found your channel. I have been loving the no plan series. I love your style and you give great advice. As a perfectionist, I agree…I need a no plan/unruled building session! Haha. Appreciate the content, keep it coming!!
Love your videos and style! I'm so used to the idea of building with measurements and being overly precise to the point where even things that look organic are meticulously placed and thought out, so it's really refreshing to see this just place first and think later method. Can't wait for the server!
I can't wait for the server. I've been here since the first "building without a plan videos" and i want to make some sort of worthy contribution. just, with all these new subs, it might be filled very fast.
Love these building with no plan videos. They inspire me to get on and continue my builds. Always give me a lot of ideas and are super entertaining. Love the long format too, need more!
Hi, just wanted to say that I love this video and I´m so happy I found this channel. This helped me so much to improve my building techniques! I always try to build way to symetrical haha
Dude that corrupted map looked AMAZING, imagine having a castle built into that artificial glitch cliff, i can imagine something like the Lycian caves crossed with fantasy dwarf architecture and it would look stunning. I think it's your whole stick to run with it when things go wrong and I'd love to see a build that embraces the corrupted chunks!
18:55 so real. I used to not enjoy building all that much and now I LOVE it because I’ve stopped thinking everything needed to be perfect. And now, my builds are significantly better because of it. My builds really used to suck but now I can realistically say that they are very good.
This almost makes me want to get back into Minecraft, I haven’t played in a long time because I never feel like have that much fun or build anything that looks good, but this is making me want to get back into it.
honestly this just build with no plan and no "rules" for building has saved minecraft for me! I used to burn out so much from playing but playing like this just makes it so much fun. also love the videos
I usually dont know wath kind of details add to my build and where to begin but I like that by listening your active thinking I learn a new way to build and positivy criticize my build thank you !!
Diagonal roofs are my field of expertise. I developed a technique to make roofs extremely flat at any angle you wish for. And it only took me 2 roofs to learn how to do it but I've never seen anyone explain it anywhere. Its not always easy to setup. Where sometime you may need to build further than the planed roof to have your pattern. But once you have it it's dumb easy. As easy as making the straightest diagonal possible between 2 points that have one direction and height difference. And then copy pasting that line. And filling the holes plus using walls if your roof is very vertical to replace some block. (as slabs can easly be inserted into the creation of the pattern for later roofs. While steep roofs need walls but thoses are easier to place later.
Honestly I just appreciate how calm the vid was, reminds me of old Minecraft, although back then variation and gradients weren't necessary for something to look good.
Hey flow, i don't like to be dramatic but, yeah, i wanted to thank you. I am a Muslim and i live in France, it was pretty difficult for me at a moment, at school etc.. life is hard yk. And ur videos boosted me up times to times, i cryed on most of them and i think you have a greta vision of the world, a beautifull soul, and a glorious heart, you deserve more subscribers, i love your videos, once again, thank you 🤍✨
I love that this guy showed his creative thought process, it was cool to see someone build in a style that’s is super similar to my “specialty” style (I don’t claim to be a pro it’s just what I’m most comfortable building)
I really love the build! The color pallet is very reminiscent of the older Minecraft castles you would try to build as a kid but it would end up looking so bland. But the build, to me, looks like a outpost of some kind, like a check point between the villages. And I really love how it was made on the spot, the changes you made during the process reminds me of how I make my own builds. Great work!
You should try a greek style of build, similar to the ones on the cliffs with white walls and blue domes in some parts. Also what does building with a plan look like?
This is the first video on this channel I’ve watched (just randomly found it in my recommended and said “sure, why not”) and I gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the laidback feel of the video and I found your building style of just trying shit and seeing what works to be really cool honestly. I feel like a lot of Minecraft building videos can be too structured and formal, so this was a really nice change of pace imo. Easy subscribe
That was a really good looking build. I know you literally just released another video just days ago that I'm about to watch as well, and others have pointed out, but some things to keep in mind when building castles (if you want them to be more historically accurate) The purpose of the castle is to protect the royal family, so I had to laugh to myself a little when you built the main living quarters for the king and queen out of the walls where a single attack could destroy the royal family while they sleep. Additionally, typically the only structural buildings along the outer wall were guard towers - you don't want anything important to be destroyed or broken into by digging into a single wall. As others have pointed out, this would likely end up being the castle of a lord rather than king, as it is small (for a king). Of course I understand it's just a game and this was simply a creative exercise but for anyone wanting to create more realistic castles those are a few things to keep in mind.
I absolutely love this video, it kinda shows you can just wing it and still end up with an amazing build. This gives me so much motivation to go back and try to build a castle again. Thank you^^
Chimneys as we know them didn't exist in the middle ages, btw - the kitchens would be the so called "black kitchens", where the funnel would be in the middle of the room's ceiling and would just end in the attic, where the smoke would disperse and raise out of the roof through gaps in the tiles.
I was invested in seeing how the castle came out and was sad to see you lose it like that. I hope to see that prismarine roof in another of your builds. it was looking rather excellent.
Im pretty good at building but my builds always looks bad, and from watching you I've learned that its mostly because I didn't add enough randomness and texture, so I'm thankful for videos like these witch have helped me understand building in Minecraft :)
Do you still have the world? because if you do copy the world from seed and copy specifically the build files the chunks might have to be loaded before you transfer the files. There's plenty of ways to fix the problem you had. Including optimizing the world :)
When he said maybe we can do a balcony situation, i was thinking it and i was likw YES YRS EXACTLY OMG YEEEES. I love balconies overlooking a ground floor room. Looks amazing every time
The build looks great. If you are still looking for blocks that will give a bit more texture without large color shifts dead coral blocks could be an option, although they are a bit more red than stone variants and especially andesite. They are very close to gravel in tint.
subscribed in the first 2 seconds of the video. I loved the music and the cinematic shot. I could tell IMMEDIATELY what the vibe of this video would be, and that takes a lot of skill from the creator. You have a very distinct and almost therapeutic video style that I have been looking for! Excited to see more content from you!
this is a breath of fresh air for minecraft videos i really hope you blow up i would be glad to come play and build on your server! whenever you get it ready, i appreciate this video it helped me to direct my thoughts for my own build. very very chill vibes in these videos! awesome work!
Bro im litteraly watching at 12:09 with 5 battery percentage this just shows how much time I look at my RU-vid notifications waiting for you to post something😂😂 Love these type of videos bro keep the the great work❤❤
Your video with the bridge really made me more confortable with unplaned building. Your build are so cool i love them. So i tried to make a bridge myself and it ended up rzaly good
I absolutely love these videos. I'm always super concerned on being precise when building, and watching this i've gained the sense of freedom and creativity i wanted. Maybe sometime you could build a zoo, showcasing the different animals and biomes.
Great video, to be honest I was really sad to see the world got corrupted man I can't imagine how bad that feels, but I really like how you took it and am sure you will make something better lol
What I have learned from flowstate. 1. dont think too much and just let loose with creativity. 2. barrels. love the building vids, it sets me in a inspired mood!
You honestly might have just helped me become a lot better builder. After seeing this, it taught me that yeah, building randomly, not making everything perfect (like 6 blocks one way 6 blocks the other for a door way), and to adapt at what you have. Thanks man, I believe this will really help me out with my designs.
the reason the roofs are so hard is because you dont have form on the top floor, keeping it loose looks nice as it keep variety at a maximum but i would recommend trying to make things a bit more orderly on the top floors in order for the roof to make sense, or adding towers/roof top balconies will help you guide the roofs shape to something that is less improvised.
