Sweet little setup. Now take two of those motors, a couple of valves for the steam supply, an radio control system and with that build an RC Steam Punk pre WW1 tank. Drive each track with one engine and use the valves to control the steering by controlling the amount of steam to each track engine. You could also do a fun side wheel steamer where again each wheel is driven by it's own engine, allowing for the steering of the boat.
Hi Les, the power output of your single cylinder single-acting mini steam engines always amazes me. I will be following the build of your miniature Clyde Puffer with great interest. I am just beginning to build your miniature model boiler - just trying to get the right materials together at the moment.Excellent video, thanks for posting.
Good afternoon, The Clyde "puffer" was so called because the single cylinder double acting engine exhausted up the funnel ( smoke stack ) making a chuffing sound.
Bonjour Leslie, Great little steam plant ! Do you plan to install a reduction box betwen the machine and the propeller ? It is fast but I fear the engine couple coul be too weak. And this could help for a reverse. Amicalement, Raphaël
Hello Raphael, I think when the engine is under a load the RPMs will decrease and the torque will increase enough to run a direct drive to the propeller. I will probably use a lesser pitch on the propeller blades.
Dear Leslie, very impressive build, I only discovered your videos this weekend. I would love to try my hand at making the steam engine you describe here. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of your PDF plan? Many thanks for the nice content, regards Jan
I have just watched your vid on the clyde Puffer Boat, What a gorgous little engine, are the plans available , I'd love to give it a go. Keep up the great workRegards, Mike
