It's time to build a proper natural terrarium for praying mantis (mantodea).
I've always watched these relaxing videos where no one speaks. you just see what is being done. So I thought, I'll show you how I set up this rather special mantid terrarium.
The idea with the stones should represent a vegetated wall. I thought it was something different from what we usually see.
The terrarium is planted with mosses, Selaginella, Episcia and a carnivorous plant.

Nice set up! The only thing is to be careful when you have larger set ups because it makes it harder for your mantis to find their food. I always prefer small set ups for mantids for that reason.

I'm concerned about providing enough air circulation to nymphs. I'm trying to raise Mediterranean Mantids from birth and I've had about 100 babies. I want to do the same with Chinese Mantids, which may number more. I don't want to have to build 200 terrariums. I put 50 holes in the top of a 32 ounce plastic container and 50 holes on the sides for each nymph. Is that enough to give good air circulation? Before I put holes on the sides, I had many mysterious deaths. Do you think lack of air circulation explains that? I keep them in boxes outside. I pack them as close together as I can so wind can't knock them over, but I wonder if that makes air circulation poor. Is there a way to do both?

Chinese mantis don't really need THAT much air circulation and a mesh top should be enough. As for number of babies, expect around 3-400 nymphs, a lot will die, but it still feels like they're never ending lol (I wish I could keep mantis outside - we don't even have wild mantis in my country)

One question, when the terrarium is watered for the first time, is it watered again every time or is it never watered again?

I assume this needs watering at least once a week

It will need misting several times a week or even day depending on the species of mantis and the LS of the mantis. If it is moulting then it will need misting twice a day.

Always nice to see someone making an effort for a mantis enclosure, so many pots with a stick out there that it makes me mad.

quick question can i use moss from outside i just ordered eggs and i love this set up

Yes!! You can use moos from outside. But look out for other bugs (like ants, isopods...) and try to clean it a bit before you use it in the terrarium.

I would recommend harvesting and quarantining moss before use in a terrarium. You can also use the initially harvested moss to just start cultivating your own, if you don't mind the time it takes to let it establish in a propagation box. Just the moss and some springtails on a bit of damp soil should be enough to get a reliable source of moss forever.

I have never kept a mantis in it. I only put the orchid mantis in for the video.

The mantis never never hangs on glass to molt. They hang under the mash or under leafes. By the way, never use metal mesh like in the video! Otherwise there will be a high risk of injury.
