I've been wanting to begin a LOTR collection outside books and movies, so I found this channel at the perfect time. I'm nowhere near as creative or patient as you are, but giving me some inspirations for putting up some shelves for my collectibles and prized possessions.
Collecting LOTR is a lot of fun, there's still new things coming out all the time (it's still extremely popular as you might imagine). Thanks for the comment
Nice job Ryan, turned out great! For the larger door, you could 3D print the frame and attach with magnets, can also use acrylic panels as they are easily cut to a custom size and lighter weight.
Thank you sir! I was actually thinking of almost exactly that, magnets are a good idea too... my only concern was trying to match the besta black color as there's a bit of "wood grain" visible in it but maybe it wouldn't be too visible anyway with all the black. Thanks for watching man, always nice getting a comment from you!
@@thecyberhobbit They have been growing big time in the last year. The lights, and color combinations are very nice. I should upload some of the videos I made for Govee, well It shows as well my Tiny LODR collection. i do admire yours, Big Time!
@@owlgryffindor Yeah I'm very glad to see another company putting the pressure on Nanoleaf, Phillips & LifX. I have 13 Govee products in my smart home and they are the only ones that consistently do what they are told. I have a video of my Star Wars themed office on my channel that shows a lot of them.
Just magnificent 👌🏽 You are a true Wizard of this earthly realm! This has elevated your collection and given them the display that shows the real beauty and artistry of these wonderful creations!👏🏽👏🏽🍻🙏🏽🕺🏾👌🏽💯
Another perfectly putntogether video, it's very evident you put alot of effort and time into all you do. But it is totally noticed and worth it for the end product. 🎉
Awesome video Cyber Hobbit, funny, inspirational and the shelves looked awesome! Love how you always put in the extra mile to get things looking nice 🤌
Looks absolutely stunning bud. Love the start of the video lol. This set up takes your Statues up a level, love what you did. Thanks for showing and telling everyone the details ( prices etc)
I love your channel! I started collecting during the lockdown and have found you to be a great resource on things. Awesome job on the display room - turned out really cool.
Thank you sir! I'm a software developer but over the last 3-4 years got into 3d printing and learning about LEDs and Arduino. Most of the stuff I learned was from watching YT videos 😄
Thank you! Yeah it's funny how Govee specifically says that once you cut them, they can't be reused (LIES!!!).... You just need to re-solder them, takes like 5 minutes 😆
You were busy! Nice, now you have space for SW Mythos! I like how you have documented this process! I kinda had a similiar idea not to long ago but I was to stingy about the extracosts....😂
Great setup!! I also have to plan a display as dust is certainly not good when displayed out in the open. This video will be helpful when i finally do it. The opening bit was hilarious btw 😂
Great job! I still think that's expensive for some simple wood panels that you have to assemble all by yourself, but it must feel rewarding and the lighting is great, it improves the figures too. And that ending with the lights is 👌
Oh my God AMAZING WORK. I could not be able to build all that by myself. I have much smaller scale statues than yours, but i basically use just premade cabinets that only need to be assembled. I couldnt even start a building project of something like this. Stunning! I think this self-building ability is something you americans have more than us europeans, because other people I follow on YT from the U.S. they can actually build things by themselves xD I'm just too lazy. Amazing work!!!
Well I did use Ikea which is basically just like what you mentioned a "premade cabinet that only needs to be assembled". I wish I had a workshop though to be able to make things for real but I have a lack of space :D. Thanks for the compliments anyway and thanks for watching!
Thanks Jaxon, the Sauron shirt is actually made by Weta Workshop. They don't sell them anymore but I was able to get one because Benjamin Schenk sent it to me (The guy who owns the LOTR museum on boundary lane). Thanks for watching!
Love the video buddy, I didn’t know about building your display on the ikea website. Super cool. I also need to do something for upstairs for a display against my windows. So that in mind…….. Awesome. Cheers.
Great job Ryan! I was thinking the same thing that you need these kind of shelves to tidy up the mess around and get a better look. And I think you can put 2 stautes in some shelves like the Aragorn shelf, Nazgul shelf. They look so little in it. 2 statues will look better for them. That's my opininon :) Have a great day! Can't wait to see when all finished.
Thank you sir! I'll definitely be putting more than 1 on a shelf as I get more things, this was just to attempt to "fill it up" for the video :D Thanks for watching!
Hi Cyber Hobbit, love your videos and I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel by pure chance! Sorry if this question is too direct but I am curious to what your occupation is. I mean those collections must have a cost quite a bit, especially with the current inflation. Thanks!
Hi Juan glad you stopped by! No worries, I'm a software developer and I build applications for computers and mobile apps for iPhone/Android. Thanks for watching!
That was a great video :) I love seeing collections of LOTR...and I am starting to sway towards your style of setup where there is no mirrors in the back of the models and they are illuminated in a dark enclosure...somehow makes them stand out more. Now, to throw a spanner in the works...I was wondering if you are considering putting some of your beautiful models on motorized lazy susans, so they can rotate and allow you to see all sides... when my Helms Deep arrives this will be one of the first things I plan on doing :) BTW I Love your collection!!!
Thank you very much! I agree, I think the dark enclosure with a light helps keep the focus on the statue. I didn't show it in the video but I actually did get a lazy susan for the dead marshes. One thing you have to be careful though is making sure the motorized lazy susan has the option to only rotate 180deg instead of 360deg. I have the dead marshes plugged in to a usb cord and you don't want that wrapped up. Thanks for commenting and watching :D
Very nice! I'm in the process of moving, so I've also been browsing the Ikea site a lot these past few weeks/months. I knew about Besta being typically used for display setups, but for my current needs and space I went with the Malsjo line (which looks really elegant as a bonus) and Kallax (though that will mainly be for the record collection). Some pieces are still on the way, others just waiting to be assembled. I'll have to think about the lighting options later.
Thank you, I considered the Malsjo line as well but I wanted it a bit more modular (I know you can join those together too) but I wanted the ability to have a really tall unit for a few really tall statues. Thanks for commenting, Cheers!
This was ingenious ! Since you don't live in an area prone to earthquakes, have you considered installing some items like weapons on your ceiling ? (no, i'm not joking)
Looks awesome man, I have the entire prime 1 line so far. but sadly bestas arent that deep. can you put 2 together to make it deeper? or do you have suggestions on how to display those?
yeah the only one that would fit would be Frodo and Gollum, can't really put 2 together. For my Sauron I have it on a pedestal and will do the same for Gandalf when he arrives. Thanks for commenting.
It looks amazing ! Wow ! A youtuber (Pop culture living room) made a series of videos about how he built a display from garage shelves, and he also explains how to make custom acrylic doors, if you're interested :)
Hey! Amazing video and building as well..! Can you suggest a brand for the led light extension cords/cables, or the ones you used (having the appropriate length / quality). Thank you in advance!
Hey thank you! Honestly the way I did it was a bit of overdoing it with the minor benefit of being able to make the Besta units light up in a certain order which in hindsight I rarely do and just leave them on a single color. If I were to redo it I would just go with finding some "chainable/linkable puck lights" on amazon. Probably cheaper anyway.
Hey quick question 🙋♂️ I plan to do something similar to what you did but i was wondering if you bought the besta cubes individually and stacked them or did you buy the taller 75in one and then installed shelves?
Hey Ryan, I was rewatching the video and forgot you were using Govee. I’m thinking about getting their TV backlight with camera to match the colour on screen and was wondering if you’ve dealt with anything similar
Hey Jaxon! I've used the Govee with the camera and I think it works pretty well. They have a newer version than the 1 that I have that uses 2 cameras to be more accurate. They do have an HDMI sync box thing but from my understanding it's more meant for computers (I think they are working on a larger size version for regular TVs though). I also have a Phillips Hue Sync HDMI box and it's amazing, the only downside is Phillips is overpriced. Something else to consider, going the camera route means you can get color accuracy on ANYTHING that appears on the screen. So it'll work with a Smart TV's built in Apps like Netflix and etc. If you go the HDMI Sync Box route you it will be more accurate because it analyzes the direct pixels instead of a camera feed, so it's not prone to picking up other lights around the room that may be reflecting on your TV. Govee has been winning lately in the RGB battle so I would so go for Govee. You can also sync not only the lights behind your TV but other lights around the room.
