I'm 23 now, I have a 2 year old daughter, developed a dad bod and dad responsibilities so my days of spending 8 hours in the local is behind me, not to mention a blown out knee so I cant skate stairs or big gaps. I got to a point where I was kinda over progressing and was happy enough with the small bag of tricks I had. After seeing Ben progress constantly it's got me learning new stuff every time I go out. Maybe il learn noseblunts at 40 too
@Che Garcia 25 2 kids here just started skating again I just take my 2 year old outside with me and we go hard in the little space I have in my garage , and he loves watchin or riding with me on the board .
I loved seeing your progression, it almost exactly mirrored what I went through trying banked rails yesterday. The initial bails of fear where it feels like you're gonna die jumping on it, then when you actually commit, it's not so bad. Conquering your mind and trusting your capabilities is always the hard part. Also I'm totally building a ledge thanks to this. Thanks for the skate carpentry lesson, Ben!
Although I haven’t watched this video yet I would just like to say that I absolutely love this channel. Yes, Ben do more DIY videos. Have a wonderful day my friend.
Ben your videos are pure gold man. Not many other channels where I'm going back into the older stuff for more. Helping me get thru winter over here across the lake! Definitely gonna build a ledge come springtime
Probably that moron who got all bent out of shape in the comment section on one of Ben's recent videos. It's the internet, so you're gonna get haters no matter how good your output is unfortunately.
"38 probably coming to a close.". Nah. I'm 47, and still feel like I'm 14 when I skate, and still progressing, so you got a lot of years to go. You're so much better than I am, and your technical skill and knowledge is awesome. You'll be progressing and learning until you're 98, and beyond.
Very nice and quick build! Just a Tiny bit of flex in the middle between your blocks. Can Remember when I was younger I built a 2x4 frame and placed a huge industrial steel freezer lid on top! No wax required Haha. Have a good Weekend Eh !
Nice job, I think people have a hard time with blunts because even if it's a super waxed surface you will find yourself still sticking as well as slipping out . It's just finding that in-between point of being light on your board yet powerful with your movements. Good video 👍 👌
Ben I just got the new tensor mag light atg’s and they grind better than any other truck. Their bushings are not very good and their turn radius is like not very good but with indys bushings, you can get thunder response with Indy carving. Their wheel base is a thunders so I hope you’ll review them soon. Btw, yet another entertaining video to wake up to.👍 another thing to add, their base plate is pushed out more so it’s easier to do nose slides and tail slides.
I'm skating some right now. Great truck all around but I've noticed compared to other trucks that they tend to slip out a little more if your not careful with certain grinds. Like they can grind a little TOO well to where theres no friction to keep you more stable if that makes sense. Love the truck just takes some getting used to how they grind.
Ben thanks for the motivation! For the my love of skateboarding just built my own ledge/Manny pad/blunt and slide ledge! With a basket ball court nearby cheers to progressing for this 37 year old skater dad of 2 lol. We thank you and have a rad day from Melbourne. Ps all made with scrap left of my outdoor kitchen company :) used structural form board for the blunt section 🐨✌🏽
Ebay sell recycled plastic strips for making faux wood plastic benches (or at least they do here in the U.K). It's super tough and slides and grinds really, really well. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is struggling to find some good plastic........ I'll put a comment below this with a link, hopefully it won't go in the YT spam bin.
@@ZackDowdy Yeah, it's awesome. Lasts forever too. Cool channel you have there BTW, I'd subscribed a bit back on an another account (set this one up to start doing some DIY skate stuff). Keep up the good work brother!
You should put some slots on the bases and some bars under the ledge to lock it in place. Holes and some thick dowels would be good too. Love the content Ben and learned a tooooon from you. I never miss an upload.
Thanks for the great idea Ben. Going to have some composite Modwood left over on a deck I'm building atm. Great timing with the vid!. Been looking for something lately to relearn board slides on. Looks like it even holds up on grinds. Might hold of on the wax at first to see how it goes. Have a Santa Cruz Everslick too so could be a sketchy combination at first. lol.
I replaced my decking this summer. I used a plastic composite from Lowe's. 21 bucks or so, us dollars, for 18 foot boards. I've used the left overs to build some interesting skateboard features for my driveway. The stuff is amazing for slides 🤙🏼
Definitely want more DIY skate builds. Also, side note I was watching some of your original videos and you have progressed like crazy. Gives me hope for someone trying to skate more after around 10 years off the board. My son kind of dragged me back in and I'm hooked haha
You did a great job building this ledge man! Will be building one for my garage to use the winter! Great idea and great video! What's everyone's best build they have completed !?
I used to be able to do noseblunts on a box at the local park growing up. The box/whole park was made out of metal metal and metal coated with a rubbery/plasticy material(skate wave parks). I guess it makes sense the box worked for noseblunts then. That was forever ago at this point, would be sweet to get them back after my right ankle is feeling strong again.
That title and thumbnail text is so good. "Build it and they will come" got me laughing. Love the channel Ben. Long time viewer, first time commenting. Im 36, so you're saying I've got a few years to learn nose blunts? Lol. Not likely, but maybe on this ledge. Greetings from Van Island.
ben: “snap a couple linee-poos” “not the type of linee-poos some skateboarders are used to, dont so that stuff it’s bad” coworker: “i did a linee-poo this morning” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just yelled and cheered for you in my apartment when I saw you roll away with that last one! I'm going to work up the balls to try them during my next session!
Your vids are awesome. I've been wanting to learn noseblunts forever. Recently redesigned my box to learn em. Made it adjustable to 2 different heights, one side has angle iron and the other is trex. Haven't grown the balls to really start trying em yet tho
I watched the entire video lol. All the way til you said "wow this has gotta be 20 mins" ect. I like how you finally covered if it was or should be fastened to the blocks or not, good noseblunts too bud. Definitely dug the video!
you could notch out a section where you put your blocks on the bottom side of your plywood so it doesn't slide off as easy ? nice to see the trex stuff grinding pretty good
Been leaning so many ledge tricks too. Tricks that i thought I'd never learn, although they're quite easy compared to blunt slides. I know exactly what it feels like to land and get consistent with them. Seriously I really love your content. Keep it up, Ben!!
Yo! I thought the ledge was going to be too long when you were cutting it??? But the way you were doing the noseblunts it almost seemed too short. Anyway great video as always. There is an end to end ledge at the Fleetwood skatepark that is good for learning these, or relearning them.
So dope! I’ve been thinking about using that material, the cheaper plasticy stuff specifically, and have been wondering how it’d hold up to grinding on. I saw a diy ledge at my local park that someone left there, but it was too tall for me to mess with.
Great video content although I'm a rollerblader but I try skateboarding over 9 years and back to rollerblade, looking forward to your videos because I never get bored. 👍👍👍 Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭 🇵🇭
Super well done! Still, how is that video about committing to tricks coming along? As we get older the more afraid of getting hurt we get! Skateboarding is 90% mental. Do some research, please, externally, internally, you name it. Waiting for that video to happen!
Is the finished product just resting on those wooden blocks? I feel as though it would move around or shift when you're jumping onto it. It doesn't look like it does in the video, but I figured I'd ask.
I’m getting about a week away from my shoulder surgery and will be out of commission for a while, but I can honestly say hands-down that every time I watch one of your videos on the old RU-vid, I get super stoked to go out and rip. Cheers from upstate NY
Pro skateboarders in 2019 are goddamn super humans and modern skate videos don't inspire me anymore, old guys learning new tricks do. Keep that content going Ben!
Hi @Ben Degros I've been skating for more than a decade now. I just noticed that boards with more color plies tends to be stronger than those boards with less color plies those with less color plies they tend to chip and shows the wood fiber easily. Can you please make a comparission video on that and thanks alot.
Hi Ben Thunder just released a new 161 truck, any chance you will be doing a review of these? (comparing them to a indy169 / ace 55 perhaps?) It would be great to see you ride a big mans board ;p Thanks
I was watching your fa video yesterday and thinking about noseblunts. I got a hockey deck because of you. I don't know how similar they are to fa, but the manuals are perfect but the kickflips are decent. 5:00
Hi ben, I did find this useful as im also an apprentice carpenter and this style of DIY videos makes me feel good about my job and how I can apply it to my favourite thing which is skating the more skilled i become at the trade, so thanks for that. I would like to see more like this for sure.
