The progress on the OO9 layout build is really moving along, episode 4 shows you how to paint slate rock face with some cheap artist acrylic paints, scratch-building two different styles of tunnel portal and using sculptamold to model the river bed.

Great commitment to the modeling cause, eating all those Roses just so you could use sculptamould. 😉 The slate has come out great by the look of it. 👍

I'm loving this ... really appreciate all the trouble you have gone through to document the modelling..I'm up for a 009 build have done a table top model for my grand children, which I've uploaded to you tube ."Miniature model railway portable on antique" I've room in the spare bedroom, so natural light a radiator..easy access.. I'm rubbish at electrics but I'm going to do a DCC as I think train sounds bring it alive.. background country bird song also would be great with a blue tooth speaker...Love the look of your slate rock and the tunnel mouth in slate..very clever...thank you..look forward to the next..

sounds great, DCC is certainly the way forward, I've built this layout with isolated sections, but if do another OO9 (and as I have one in mind already there's a good chance I will) I'm also going to go DCC I think. I think Gaugemaster do some sort of sound box for background noises, I'm certain that's what was on the layout Little Burford when I saw it at a model show and it was really effective.

@@WesternSignalman Thank you for your reply, there are some wonderful sounds of the countryside on you tube, that can be played on a hidden blue tooth speaker.." without adverts". I'm s complete novice regarding DCC ..but can see grand children and myself would love it..Having had a railway with my brother some 50 years ago it's always been a huge attractive to me. . Especially as s winter hobby.. 009 is an excellent medium for a circular layout and not taking up to much room..my late brother and I had a circular layout, and were mesmerised..Love your design offers a great deal of interest for a smaller size..However it's all a little like gardening a small garden with a lot of interest is far better than a acre field

@@muddymarvellous I think that is the advantage of OO9 it can be built in a similar size to N gauge layout but still modelling in OO. I think your spot on in regards to size I've been able to keep my interest up on this layout as I can keep moving onto something new, which is why my larger layout has probably ground to a halt as after a couple of months of track laying and wiring I got a bit bored and took a break from it.

Hi just found your channel and subscribed. Really enjoyed this and your 3 other videos on the 009 build. Really nice compact layout and interesting to see some of your techniques of which I am building similar on my N gauge layout. Looking forward to episode 5! Cheers Gary

Maybe the bachmann scenecraft tabernacle might of suited the landscape better, also stood out as it's green, but well done. I found your channel by chance on episode 4 so went to the first, & it been great, especially seeing all the problems you've had, well done.

Thank you very much. I must admit I’m a sucker for kit building rather than ready to plant but I see your point. When some scatters are on I think the church will stand out a little better. I had researched churches around north Wales and found an article about one of the oldest in the country which I used as a basis for adapting my church.

Great work ! I have just started my first dcc 009 layout. What point motors do you suggest using for peco code 80 points and a y switch?
@WesternSignalman
@WesternSignalman 2 года назад
Thanks Steve, it all depends on your budget for this layout i used standard peco solenoid point motors. But if your going dcc I would suggest the cobalt digital IP point motors I used these on my OO gauge layout, they are very easy to instal and program . If you look for underground Eric he did a really informative video on installing these points ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4hpMVFynnfI.html

This is currently my favourite layout building series. I’m planning on building a modular layout of the Ashover Light Railway using an end-to-end format. What controller would you recommend for a layout like mine?
@WesternSignalman
@WesternSignalman 2 года назад
Thank you very much I’m glad your enjoying the build. Will your layout be DCC or analogue? I’m currently using a standard fleishmann analogue controller for this layout which has the advantage of a 14v output for the point motors. My larger layout is DCC and I’m currently using a Bachmann dynamos ultima which I would throughly recommend not to buy it’s a terrible price of kit, so I’m still trying to find the ideal controller for that layout myself.
@Living_Life_RN
@Living_Life_RN 2 года назад
@@WesternSignalman I’m thinking analogue, as I doubt many of my locos are DCC compatible. Does the Fleischmann controller have multiple panels, so I can operate sections of my layout separately? I know gaugemaster controllers come in varying sizes which may be useful.
@WesternSignalman
@WesternSignalman 2 года назад
@@Living_Life_RN no the controller is just a bog standard from a train set. I have built 4 isolating sections into the layout to control the trains off one controller. I do have a dual gauge master controller and it is a very good controller, something like that would be perfect for you I’d imagine.

Ta very much. I’ve had this issue with the music before, on the computer the levels are fine but when I post something it seems to put it out of balance. I probably need to look into different editing software.
