In this episode we take you thru building a Post Frame porch start to finish, RR Building style. I am not going to say we invented this style...but I had never personally seen it done this way before we did it. Like I say in the video, I am not an engineer, nor is this porch design engineered, but our porches are rock solid when we construct them.

I read the entire Ryan's ru-vid.comUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan's Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Where I wish I knew more is with respect to ground preparation and foundations. Maybe that's beyond the scope of Ryan's Shed Plans.

Tim from Canada, my question is why are you using three different brands of tools for example at the beginning your laser level and your parts were..( DEWALT…. )Then using your hammer drill it was I think.?.(. Milwaukee.)….. now you’re using a new tool green. I am not sure what brand this is…. most construction people stick with one brand of tool. A lot of you people only use….( DEWALT..). Just my observation. If you are using just one brand of tool, don’t you think it should be the same for just one battery platform?… I see in your construction base you were using three different brands of construction tools or more meaning that you need a platform for more than three or more battery types…. again just my observation if you are doing this yourself, you should be using one kind of battery platform and seeing if that battery platform can give you free tools so you can use them on your job for construction use and for… task purposes, so you can test out the tools… I know a lot of contractors that do this

A couple of questions: 1: Why not do a ledger board at the house for the rafters to frame into? Maybe overkill but would be easier to frame (for me a least). 2) why a 2x12 rafter for such a small span? (A 2x6 would work) #3: the porch roof is too close to the higher roof - looks awkward and how in the world did you attach the sheathing and roofing under the higher roof? Enjoy your videos and appreciate your level to detail.

I've heard people argue that all the prep, math and layout is a waste of time but they don't get to reap the reward of finishing the build that is square and exactly what it needs to be. Too many times I have had to help cut custom pieces for every sheet because the person in charge didn't want to take the time to layout properly. Its delayed vs instant gratification and I think in the end your way is faster and produces a better product.

that's amazing! I never would have thought 42 years ago that they would make a circular saw that could cut through four 2x's at one time! Any time dad and I cut big cedar beams, we would do our best to line up the cuts when we would flip a beam to cut through the other half! You could always tell when you done it that you had to make a second cut; it was never perfect.

@rrbuilders- hey kyle, i have asked this question a few times. Can you please explain, when you are calling out "grade", such as on that concrete patio and this porch. Where and how are determining your grade point, then level? I can only assume that the porch you are working on has a slight slope for water to run off, but i see that your laser (180) is near or at the middle of the porch. So one part, near the house has to be higher then the outside edge. All of that seems a bit confusing. How do you determine where you are setting that laser/grade? This is all new to me. Have been in construction for 20 years, but have never ran one of these. Always just showed up and started banging nails. All the grade work had already been done. We live on a farm, i will be purchasing this laser set up as it will come in handy on many projects for the future.

So many things wrong in this video. First you’re not wearing any PPE when using that hanger nailer. You could possibly damage your eyes using that without wearing safety glasses. Second, the strength in the plywood is really only useful when you stair step the pieces. And who pull out a track saw to sheath a roof

I assume the chairs were 60-80/each and a cheap fire pit found on sale could be 100. Gravel 80 Chairs 120 Fire pit 100 Total 300… haven’t included wood posts, lights, concrete mix or edging.
