I put all of the mental labor and all of the research hours into our house reno, too. Then, I show my husband what I've found and he looks at it for two seconds before saying, "sounds great." I think it's like that in a lot of households.

I actually just saw this a few minutes ago and returned to this vlog to write it and it is so true. THE MOST EXPENSIVE LIQUID IN THE WORLD IS A TEAR. ITS 1% WATER AND 99% FEELINGS. THINK BEFORE YOU HURT SOMEONE. Thats the problem the sad people just dont think. My dad said if you cant say anything nice about someone , dont say anything at all because it can come back at you 10 fold.

I love your creative projects, Megan. They are surprisingly gorgeous, with your personality stamped all over it. Mike has explained many times that he stands 100% by your side and he is more than happy to give you the Creative Director rôle. It's kind of a stab towards her husband too. He's a grown man with a brain, he knows what to do if the marriage/family isn't what he wants it to be. This isn't how I "run" our family, but every family is different. What works for a single mother of 3 might not apply to a married couple with 9 kids. Some people seem to think there's only 1 road to Rome.
@aksez2u

@@ThundrGurl Yes, if you've been following for a while, you've seen them have to explain that Megan is just the more exuberant one and Mike does not ever feel pushed or over-ridden at all. People should keep their negative thoughts to themselves.

@@aksez2u yeah, I've noticed the trend. People don't stop to think that it's her very extrovert personality that made him fall in love with her in the first place. I wonder if the negative people stop to think even for a second and consider the possibility that this is the way he likes it.

I used dirt to pave with uneven old bricks, even though I saw sand being used for new bricks. I leveled each row to match with the previous one and then packed in the dirt from the sides. They stayed firm and level and I'm really happy with it. Very beautiful mix of flagstone and bricks. Love the design you laid it out in. Just wish you used hand packed dirt, like me!

“I’m very observant” hair comment cracked me up! When I still lived with my parents I started dying my hair. Every time I’d add more Carmel, light brown, and blonde highlights. After a couple years I got tired of spending the money. So I dyed it back to my natural very dark brown hair color. My dad said “what did you do? I liked it the other way!” I busted out laughing and was like “this is my natural hair color!” And my dad replied “oh...I guess I forgot”. 😂 I only had my natural hair color for 20 years...so I mean it’s not like he had 20 yrs to realize this. lol We gave him a hard time about it. Then he put us in our place when 2 weeks pasted and my mom and I hadn’t noticed he shaved off is beard. 🤷‍♀️ I guess many of us are not observant. lol

Should be crushed stone filings to achieve the look you want. Sweep a light layer of sand after. Just helpful hint, have laid many different brick and stone walkways, drive ways etc in my years. If you want old well worn pathway look, more bricks an stones closer together, sèd moss or ground cover seed between rowd.

I've laid cobblestone paths reclaimed from our patio at our former house in the USA. I just buried each stone in the soil, placed the next stone beside it as close as I could, standing on each stone to see if it felt level compared to the one beside it. Not all the stones had a flat surface so it was a challenge. I guess it was done in a very unprofessionally, way but it turned out okay. Here in the Netherlands where I now live, I see brick being laid all the time for streets and sidewalks. They use just sand, lay the bricks on top of the leveled sand, right up next to one another, pour what looks like a blackish sand on top and just sweep that in. There's always a thin layer of sand remaining on top for awhile but eventually it just disappears. Your walkway came out great! I have never seen flagstone and brick used together. I'm learning that you have a vision I can't always see at first, but the results always look very nice. Regarding negative comments - some people are jealous and lead boring lives. You are amazing and its reflected in your kids and Mike.Ignore the haters, and delete any nasty comments you want. You owe them nothing.

When you finished (and also before you start laying the bricks) we normally use a compacter and than we add something called 'split sand' (i do not know what the right translation is) it is thicker sand/micro stones. We sweep the 'split' between and partly on the bricks with a broom and let it settle. It prevents the sand underneath to wash out wenn it rains. And because it is heavier it stays between the stones.

I was brought up in a hardware shop in the late 1950s England and we kept a small mountain of sand and gravel at the back which we'd bag up and deliver at weekends. It never got stolen even though it was open access to the public! We kids loved to play on sand mountain but it wasn't encouraged as it was orange builder's sand which stains!

PLEASE don't go with an online company to draw your plans. Go with a local draftsman who can take a look at your current home and knows your local codes and construction practices.

Having done a couple of Reno’s on our 20 year old house due to car accident! The architect just wanted to do what they wanted to do and $$$, then we got a local draftsman to do our kitchen extension and raise our bench tops! Much better solution! All the best! Also we were so glad we had a ranch style and we can stay here indefinitely as we age as a result of that!

The brick pattern is very lovely 😍, i was wondering if maybe you put an outline of something flexible along the sides until it settles, that would keep the sand from shifting, 😊👍💕💕💕

Dear Meghan, I appreciate your vlogs so much. I don't really know you, but to me you look like a wonderful person, I know you're funny and artsy. You show that you care and your whole family adores you! Mike has only the best to say about you and look at all your kids: happy, healthy, smart and respectful! That all says something! I feel sorry that you are burdened with nasty and hateful comments, nobody can just overlook that because it's hurtful! Be like you are and don't waste your precious time with the stupidity of some idiots! Thank you for sharing your adventures!

I would leave the front porch area jutted out, with the upstairs aligned with the rest of the house. Gives dimension, and you could extend the roofline out and creat a front porch from the front door all the way to the right

My understanding is that the upstairs weight has to be built on the original load of the house foundation. It has to go from the top floor straight down to the foundation.

I’m in Atlanta too! Right, that’s actually what I was saying. The upstairs wouldn’t jut out, but the area that is currently extended past the rest of the house would stay that way. And they could build a little porch around it
