Bonjour! I finally got around to fixing my video editing software and finished the 2nd boat build for you guys. I'm sorry that it took this long but hopefully, I'll have to time to make more videos for you guys.
In this part, I reinforced all the bulkheads and cut out/ constructed the bottom hull for the boat. In the next video, it'll finally take shape and start to look like a boat.
If you guys enjoyed the video, make sure to hit the like subscribe button because if/ when we hit 5,000 subscribers, I'll build another boat but twice the size. 10 k for a submarine build!
If you want to be apart of this project, you can donate via my website. If you donate, YOUR NAME with be written on the boat.
jtwoodworks.org
I just want to thank my Dad for his help.
Thanks for watching!

Keep in mind you are not just building a boat... you also happen to be answering the most important question any company you EVER apply to when they ask you "Are you motivated? Are you a self starter? Are you afraid to take on big projects?" Just show them this video and sit back while they make you an offer (p.s. hold out for more money).
@tozerd1
@tozerd1 2 года назад
Heck ya! That's how you get it done. You could just sit and dream and watch youtube vids about someone else's dream or you can dive in and get your hands dirty on your own dream. Mistakes will be made, but that's how you learn. You are establishing a solid foundation for future projects. When you are sitting in your sailboat that you built in some sunny cozy anchorage it will give you a warm feeling in your soul like no other. Love it!

George Buehler would approve of this. He talked about kids building a boat and having adventures instead of staring at screens. He also criticized people who were so snobby that they would only approve of the best materials and because of that could never afford a boat.

Hey, I'm down in San Diego, building a similar mini-cruiser on my channel. The plans I started with are actually from the same designer as your Naut 450. Mine were the Tenten 425 though. I've modified the design quite a bit though. Building mine out of PVC foam. Good luck man. Glad to see you back-yard building for your cruising dreams.

Obviously, the point is moot now, since you've already done it, but if you ever have to join something like those keys again, add cabosil or micro-balloons to your epoxy. It will thicken it into a peanut butter-like consistency and allow you to more securely attach those keys without having to redo the epoxy over and over to get it to fill in the gaps. It will form an extremely hard, structural bond. Otherwise, glad to see you progressing. Looking forward to more episodes.

@@JackWood25 - This boat looks just fine, but if you continue building boats they'll only get better the more you do. Incidentally, you can use that cabosil/microballons trick for fillets instead of the fairing compound as well. It'll go on smoother and you won't have to sand it before applying the fiberglass over top. Hope you're having fun with this project. It'll be great to see it on the water.

I haven’t check insurance but where I’m planning on taking the boat, I’m able to just anchor. So if all else fails and I can’t get a mooring, anchoring will be my best bet. Also my plan is to just store it at my house when it’s not on use.

@@JackWood25 Trailer boat smart. Guy up in Petaluma built one - ferro cement - weighed a ton, several actually as it was 54 feet long - always good for a laugh as these concrete sailboats being rather heavy would drag people down the fuel dock when thrown a line. My friend had a 36 ferro cement and all of that weight rides very smoothly compared to the typical glass bay (SF) boats. A guy crossed from Japan in 64 - they had the boat at the Maritime San Francisco building - think it was a wooden 14 footer. I am not telling you how great you are like most here - you are an exceptional human being and what else would/should we expect? Mine was a Catalina 22 up in Port Sonoma ...

I'm not trying to be an ass, but is that marine grade plywood? I thought you needed that so the ply wouldn't peel apart. Do you intend to put the material through some sort of process or cover it with something if it isn't marine grade plywood? If so, I'd appreciate if you'd share it with me. I'm getting prepared to build the much simpler Goat Island Skiff in the weeks to come and I'm really struggling to find marine grade 5-ply of any kind where I live.

You’re not being an ass, it’s just a good observation. The plywood that I used isn’t marine grade plywood. Although in the next few episodes, I do cover the entire boat with two layers of fiberglass and epoxy to fully seal the exterior. If you can’t find any marine grade plywood in your area, I can give you a link to a website where I purchased the fiberglass if thats helpful. Also love hearing that you’re going to be building your own sailboat, that’s awesome!
