Where are your hurricane straps? Is it earthquake proof? What about volcanoes? Can it withstand an Independence Day style alien attack? Is it rated to survive the pompousness of teenage Swedish environmentalists?

In a hurricane event I would cover the open structure with plywood, and strap (using air conditioning hanging strap gauge 22 or whatever there's available in a Distributor or anywhere anyone sells it) the roof to the poles and it won't or shouldn't go no where. I don't know how you're planning to do it but I probably paint mine with polyethylene white a good 3 times to start and review it every year or twice a year to see if it'll need a good coat.

I'm not a nasty person, nor do I make a habit of commenting in a negative way on Utube videos. So I apologize in advance for this comment. But I find it fascinating how some people seem to do things the hard way. My wife is definitely one of those. On a positive note, I do admire your tenacity.

I love your white and black cat. About 15 years ago we found a small kitten along an e-way entrance ramp near Cedar Springs, MI. We named him Casey. As he grew the white-black pattern emerged. Casey never purred, yet a great cat. We lost him one night when he never came home. Locally here in Muskegon, MI we occasionally see another "Casey" wandering around so that it must be a breed of cat. Have fun with your cat and your young son will play with the cat too.

Geoffrey Kail, I thought about telling him to install like 4"x4" steel angulars of a 1/4 thickness on both sides under the union of the beams and top of columns as well. That way the beams have additional 4" under them to support over the columns. He'll see our comments, and maybe do it after confirming if is good and convenient overbuilding for longer lasting support and durability! Thank you!

future reference--product called Secure Set--2 part epoxy available Home Depot--mix -pour-dry 30 minutes-better than concrete-expands into the side walls and is waterproof--several fence builder videos on You tube extolling its value--- price in or about concrete range-maybe a little more expensive but it works with very low labor cost and can be installed anywhere.anytime-rain .sleet.snow or sunshine--just offering what learned

Agreed, I am 62 years old, my dad taught me everything, and the will to build and learn. Built hunting cabins, barns, sheds, etc. I am still doing that stuff with the Ford 9N tractor that was my Grandfathers, new in 1939. Those of us who were lucky enough to do this with our fathers were blessed. He has been gone over 40 years now. Enjoyed the video.. That's a good looking Ford...sure would have put a post hole digger on it when I was digging those holes, but they turned out good.

Hint. Get a trenching spade. About 5-6" wide. Use it to cut the sides of the hole. (IT DOESN'T HAVE MUCH LEVERAGE STRENGTH), so just cut the sides, and then use the post-hole digger to lift out the soil. We raise horses, so over the years, I've dug more holes than I care to think about. Also, if you're in sugar sand, start the hole, and dump some water in. You can't lift sand, but you can lift mud.
@michaelgiraitis1278
@michaelgiraitis1278 3 года назад
Also, I welded about 2" of plate steel on the end of a 6'x1-1/4" pipe, so I can really pack the hole tight.

Another GREAT video! Interesting, entertaining, and informative! Thanks! I think it looks great. As mentioned before, I find the obvious 'hacks' of something homemade with 'what you have' much nicer to look at than a 'kit' or something with an unlimited budget can purchase. Structurally...it is way overbuilt which is also perfect! Scabbing a 2x4 on top of that beam when all it needs to hold is some snow...wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Thanks again!
