I was given a sample of a two way mirror to try out with my Smart Mirror, which meant I had to figure out how to build a frame!

Softwood 2"x2" (2ft): From scrap pile or by request at local lumber yard

Ben, wanted to commend you on the build of your smart mirror, as well as this beautiful frame. I also liked that you went through a progression with building the frame and shared the issues you encountered. Too many people would have edited that out, but I appreciate you sharing. I’m getting the two-way mirror glass today, then will be building a frame for the smart mirror I’ll surprise my son with. Very excited! Great job and thanks for sharing.

Looks great Ben, I am in the process of putting one together myself and have used the cheaper option of acrylic and reflective film so I am eager to see the difference. I am using 15% film but do you happen to know what kind of percentage the two way glass mirror lets through? I haven't constructed my frame yet so I imagine that will make a big improvement. Good work on the posts that take a novice, like myself, through each step of the physical build, and more importantly (for someone new to raspberry pi) the programming steps as well.

Thanks Francis! I really try to make guides with first time builders in mind, so that is really nice to hear. I used a mirrored film version for about 18 months before upgrading, and I think it's a great way to get a Smart Mirror. I'm sorry I don't know the percentages off hand, but I will try to find those for you. Good luck with your build!

Glass mirror reflectivity: Visible Transmittance: 11%, Visible Reflectance (Coated Side): 68%, Visible Reflectance (Glass Side): 16%
